Having a Go at Painting Race Track Figures

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I know this is something loads of people do all the time, but this is the first time in my life I've tried doing this so I thought I'd document it.
I used a technique that ‪@conquestracingclub‬ mentioned recently in one of his live streams, and everything I did after that is almost certainly exactly not the right way to do things.
‪@thatslotcarguy‬ said recently 2023 is the year of having a go.... so I'm having a go

Also if you are going to do this Zenathal technique you should look into Contrast paints from Citadel, or acrylic inks instead of acrylic paint, this will give you a richer result as inks have more pigmentation than paint so when you dilute they still apply good Color

zenithal highlighting and then any form of speed paints (army painter etc...) gives a nice slapchop speedy effective painting technique, good start dude

I'd suggest not to "Slapchop" as civilian figure's are much smoother etc. than Warhammer miniture's the paint has been created for. I've changed my technic to use less, let the figure dry flat, so the slower drying contrast paint, doesn't run down but stay's where you've put it. My earlier figure's with contrast paint's teended to look unnaturally "blobby" with contrast's, now they are more suptle & realistic. Great paint's but need to be modified in how to apply to our figure's.....

Hey Dave so you got everything right but a couple of things, if I was going to do a yellow or orange or red i would basecoat with brown first then 45 with grey and then top down with white this will give your overlay Color a brighter finish, another tip is to dry brush the model between layers to maintain crisp highlights, maybe I will do a model or 2 live But awesome first job!

Sorry, not impressed. I prime in white, and either paint solid colour's or recently Citadal Contrast or Army Painter "Speed Paint". They ended up looking, to me, washed out & glossy. I've been painting & selling my figure's for 15 year's or so. The glory day's of getting 50 to 75 pound's a figure are over but I still sell privatly my own manufactured figure's for £15.00 . I paint very simply, not as you have down and maybe that's my secret to success. PS, I do use quality modelling paint's. Citadal, Vallejo, AK & recently Army Painter "Speed Paint"..... I still have some of these that are over 10 year's old, so thought initially expensive, quality prevail's & last's. Double PS, having just taken another look at the finished item. They are very glossy (which clothes are not.) They need a coat of Matt Varnish to take the shine off them.

This was the first time I ever painted any figures, no need to be so harsh, were the first figures you ever painted perfect?

@@slotr I'm sorry if you felt my comment's were HARSH but I didn't show the world my first attempt's ! If you're going to up-load to youtube then you have to accept critisism. Sorry but that's a fact. BUT if you read what I have written you may discover some usefull feedback. You have attempted to start your first attempt with a technic that's quite advanced and used mainly by Militry & skilled painter's. {I've been painting 1/32 slotcar figure's for 20 year's and I wouldn't try that technic as I'm not skilled enougth.} 1/. Start simply. 2/. use good paint's & more importantly reasonable good brushes. "Old saying" Rubbish in, rubbish out! 3/. Don't EXPECT compliment's . 4/. Don't RUN before you can walk ! 5/. Visit my Facebook group SCENIC SLOTCAR FIGURES >>> facebook.com/groups/152993332272442 and you'll see I'm NOT the besst painter their is on the group. I try and encourage people to paint and if I do see something to critisise, I do it by PM as a suggestion from my experiance. If you join, let me know and I'll happily chat to you on PM. I guess suggestion Number 6 would be, not to post your first attempt on youtube ! LOL Painting figure's is very enjoyable and I'd be more than pleased to encourage you and pass on my experiance's and their are member's who are much better than me to help & advise too. Michael.

@@HTJB60 but this channel is me vlogging my journey through the hobby.... I'm not a shiny edited television programme where everything is perfect. I did this, I showed it as part of my journey, I'll do more at some point, they'll be better... that's how vlogs work

@@slotr I've just tried to be helpful. I wouldn't attempt to use the system you decided to as a beguiner and I've had 20 year's of figure painting experiance.
