Haven - Daisy Rickman (23.12.2021)
Музыка
This is a song I wrote in May 2020 called Haven. It’s about a special place up in the fields above Mousehole where I spent a lot of peaceful time during the first lockdown. I recorded this in the shed during my exhibition at Christmas just before I got covid and felt like a toad that week haha.. wanted to record a better version but never got round to that so thought would share it anyhow. This was something I wrote in my notebook that day…
“Sitting in the shed today has been lovely.. quite a non stop past few weeks and is nice to have some days of rest ahead. Was feeling quite low before the solstice with the uncertainty of everything and strangeness in life during this time.. but the celebrations at Montol and being surrounded by so many incredible humans has really helped lift my spirits. I often feel like a lot of the things I try and do creatively never really work or turn out how I originally envision them… but within that I am continuously reminded of the importance of staying present within what you’re doing and accepting the nature of this side of trying to create anything. I am slowly learning how to try and manifest certain dreams and visions into reality.. reminding myself that organising events and people during these mad times can be a difficult process.”
Reflecting on that time now it’s nice knowing that bringing people together in spaces to celebrate Art and Music is becoming a lot easier 🤍

I will listen to this many times. Mining precious metal here. More from the shed please.
Love this one. Really well done.❤ from Pittsburgh
Beautiful! I was just pointed to your music by today's article in The Guardian and am very grateful for that. I hear the inspiration of some of my favourite artists in your work (Bert Jansch, Nick Drake, Vashti Bunyan) as well as your own distinctive voice on top. Wishing you a very good year with the release of your second album.

I arrived via the Guardian too. Lovely music, so Nick Drake and yet, quite different. Lovely.
The gulls go well in the song! It sounds like she recorded at an oceanside!

Very nice.
Forgive me for presuming to comment on this and at some length. I fell down a rabbit hole (or should I say a Mousehole?) and stumbled upon your channel. I watched the videos of you singing Black Waterside, Pink Moon and so on with my jaw on the floor. I've been singing and playing for a long, long time at a (very) moderately successful level - i.e. bars and clubs mostly thought I was part of a duo that performed on one of the small stages at Glastonbury twice (ahem). I've always dreamed of time-travelling back to Les Cousins in about 1967 and doing a set there. Thing is, if you could do that you'd slay them. You'd stop the clocks. You do what Anne Briggs talked about in the Watersons Documentary (Travelling for a Living) in that you don't project your music out like a 'performer', you remain at the still centre of the maelstrom and bring your listeners in. It's rare and it's breathtaking. I'd give my left leg to be able to do it. You sing and play with such honesty and sincerity. And skill of course. I think it's wonderful. Thankyou.

It' s an Eko. Italian made beetwen 1967 and 1974/75( that model) Is a Ranger , First named J 54
not sure what i'm happier about, these songs or the knowledge there's a place called mousehole and people live there
do I get to see you perform in the U.S any time soon? for some reason, i was thinking back (way back) to a richard and mimi farina song (A Swallow Song).or Kate Wolf(Pacheco)...you voice is kind of different and magical...and the whistling unexpected.. and yes there is also the mysterious force of Nick Drake present in your voice and playing. and uniqueness of Karen Dalton.
Beautiful Daisy, what open tuning are you using? X
