Have You Ever Wondered How to use a Spray Detailer & a Spray Wax or the Difference Between the Two?

Meguiar’s introduced the first car spray detailer in the early 80’s with the release of Trigger Wash. Since its inception, there’s been a little questioning and confusion about using a mist and wipe product to maintain paint. Probably the biggest question is what the difference is between Meguiar’s Quik Detailers and Quik Waxes and how to use them to get the best results.
With a Quik Detailer and a Quik Wax you spray-on and wipe-off to help maintain paint. The idea behind these products is that if paint is consistently maintained properly, it will look better, last longer, and won’t require as much when it comes to claying and compounding.
They will perform their best on paint that’s already in very good condition and already has a preexisting wax or sealant. With these types of products, we always recommend using them with fresh, clean, premium microfiber towels, like Meguiar’s Supreme Shine Microfiber Towels. Always make sure you are working with a clean portion of the towel.
Differences & When to Us
There are many different variations of Quik Detailers and Quik Waxes with slightly different nuances and characteristics depending on your wants and needs.
So, what ultimately sets the products apart from each other?
Quik Detailers are for light cleaning and touch-ups between regular car washes and gently clean paint and remove light contaminants like dust, smudges, fresh water spots, and fresh bird droppings. They also contain lubricants to reduce friction and minimize swirling and scratching. As an additional benefit, they usually enhance shine and can contain just a bit of protection without stripping away preexisting wax.
Quik Waxes are for boosting shine and protection between regular wax applications. They are meant to be used on a clean surface as they don’t usually contain any cleaners. However, they increase shine and protection and are formulated as more of a booster to enhance preexisting wax, instead of a stand-alone wax protection.
In order to maximize your gloss, slickness and water beading action make sure your paint is free of above surface bonded contaminants, below surface defects, and has a good wax protection already on the paint.
Using Quik Detailers
Select your Detailer and make sure there’s only light or fresh contaminants on your paint. If your paint has dirt and debris that is moderate to heavy, you really want to use a traditional car wash or waterless wash. Ideally, you want to be working on a cool surface and in the shade.
Take a fresh, clean premium microfiber towel and fold it into quarters so you have 4 squares per side of the towel. When one section of the towel gets dirty or overly saturated, you can easily flip to a clean portion of your towel.
Spray your detailer in a small section, about a 1-2 square foot area. Take one of the clean sections and gently wipe the area. Flip your towel to a clean portion for a final wipe. Work in sections, returning back to the damp portion of your towel for each initial wipe. Be sure to monitor your microfiber to ensure that you are always working with a clean section. This way you’re not pushing dirt and debris back into the paint and create swirls.
Using Quik Waxes
Pick your favorite Quik Wax, make sure the paint is clean and work on a cool surface and in the shade. Spray about a 1-2 square foot area and gently spread the wax evenly with a fresh portion of your towel. Flip your towel to a clean part and gently buff the remaining product to reveal a high gloss shine. Work in sections. Again, be sure to monitor your microfiber towel and flip to a clean portion as needed.
You can use Quik Detailers and Quik Waxes as frequently as you like without causing harm. However, we usually recommend using a Quik Detailer every few days and a Quick Wax every few weeks, maybe after you detail or wash your car.
Regular use of these maintenance products will decrease how often you have to wash, remove defects, and wax. They will also increase gloss and protection ultimately making your paint look better.

Never used a spray-on wax before I Decided to try Meguiars ultimate quik wax In between liquid wax Applications Applied by hand on My 2021 ProMaster159 high-roof With a lot of Paint surface to tend to... Applied by hand liquid wax takes approximately 2hrs or so..Meguiars ultimate spray on wax about 40 minutes Including roof, Paint finish feels velvety soft & Smooth as ice, And the protection seems to last around 2 weeks Very impressed would definitely recommend

No, if you have just washed the car there is likely no reason to use a quick detailer. You would just go straight to a spray wax if you were hoping to boost/add protection.

I’m a big maguiars product guy but I don’t see anything for tree sap I have a white Durango and I often find small dots of rust on the entire car, is there any product from maguiars that cleans sap or those small rusted dots

There may be no reason you need to use Quik Detailer right after Quik Wax but you certainly can.
I get streaking with the ceramic detailer which is quite disappointing. I've tried it on 2 cars so I know it's not the paint causing it to streak. Is there another method to apply it without getting streaking?

Sorry to hear that. This product has only been out since the beginning of the year but it is already being used by a lot of people who absolutely love it. Not sure what could be happening here? Is it really hot and humid where you are at? It is possible you are over applying even though detailers are usually very forgiving. Are you using a good quality microfiber towel for wipe off? Aloha @@meguiars, New black truck one week, has Xylion coating. Can I just use the waterless wash and wax. Then a quick detailer? Would the hybrid ceramic detailer be better than the red bottled quik detailer? For the black rims, I was thinking of hot rims black wheel cleaner then applying hybrid ceramic tire shine. First car I am detailing. So any advice helps!

I agree. Most of these videos just serve to confuse the average consumer with product overkill. I have seen little difference over the years in results from waxes, sealants, toppers, etc. I went directly to one product's headquarters and asked if their “final” use product could serve as a stand-alone wax. “Of course!” they said. So why would I waste time and money on anything else? Especially when NOTHING seems to last more than a week or two.

@@eronavbj if your car is not ready for a wax? Id advise using some sort of cleaning product first. Per the video, the spray wax does not contain any cleaning agent. It's generally accepted to use the detailing spray before using the quick wax.

There is typically no reason you would need to use a detailer mist & wipe right after washing unless the car was hit by a bunch of dust or other fresh contaminants right after washing. After washing and drying the car you can just use the spray wax.

Detail sprays in general are designed to be used any time you want to wipe the car down to remove fresh/loose contaminants from the surface. This typically includes dust, light dirt, fresh water spots, bird droppings, fingerprints, etc. They are also often used as lubrication for claying a vehicle.

The Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax can literally be used instead of a traditional car wash even if the car is fairly dirty. And as the name implies it also has wax in it to offer protection that many detailers do not.
Hi, for a new factory paint car, what should i used to maintain the paint? Or just using ultimate quik wax is enough? Or should i apply hybrid ceramic liquid wax and hybrid ceramic detailer as maintenance?

Ultimate Quik Wax is designed to be used for maintenance not as your primary source of protection. Yes, our Hybrid Ceramic Wax would be a great option for your base protection while using the Hybrid Ceramic Detailer any time you like to safely clean a light dirty/dusty vehicle. The Hybrid Ceramic Detailer will also boost the protection and water beading. 👍

Everything is typically going to be the same on white paint but is more difficult to see both in real life and on camera. Just the nature of different colors and our eyes. Results are more noticeable on darker colors even though we all know a white paint can look great also! Keep in mind almost all cars have clear coats so you are rarely working on the color coat anyway. Regardless we appreciate the feedback. 👍

As mentioned in the video quick detailers can be used any time you want to safely remove light dirt, dust, etc. from the finish. This is not necessarily something you would need to do right after washing although you certainly can. That being said if you just want to use a quick detailer with the "most shine" we would recommend our Ultimate Quik Detailer or our Gold Class Premium Quik Detailer.

Does “ The last touch” strip away any wax? It says it will clean greasy spots so in theory wouldn’t it strip my pre-existing wax that I just put on?

Yes, these could be used even if a car has not been waxed yet; however they will certainly perform better on a surface that has already been restored and/or waxed.

You certainly can but you should be aware that using other non-hybrid ceramic waxes on top of the Hybrid Ceramic Wax could have an impact on the water beading you are getting. Nothing harmful about this at all but something to consider. If that is something you want to avoid you should consider picking up the Hybrid Ceramic Detailer instead as it will help maintain/boost your protection and water beading.

You can use either but if you want to maintain the water beading and protection of a ceramic coating the Hybrid Ceramic Detailer would make the most sense. 👍

Yes, you certainly can but keep in mind the Ultimate Quik Wax is designed to be used as a maintenance wax rather than you primary source of long lasting protection. Your expectations as to how long it will last should be set accordingly. If you want better protection we would recommend a good liquid or paste wax application.

Not sure which product specifically you are referring to? Most spray detailer and spray waxes are safe on glass as well. If for some reason you were looking to remove a spray wax from glass you could that a few different ways including... 1) DIsh washing liquid and water 2) Claying 3) Compound 4) Rubbing alcohol

@@meguiars I sprayed the panels with a mist spray of quick wax but totally forgot to watch out not to get it on the windows I dint wipe it down and now when direct su light hits the window you can see thousands of specs of wax and I can't get it off ....

Most quick detailers and quick waxes would be safe on gold but we really could not say for sure considering the variety of objects and gold finishes in the world.

Twice a week would not necessarily be harmful but probably is overkill. Every other wash (once a week) would be great if you want to do it regularly.

Sorry to hear about your experience. We can assure you that although not designed for glass may people use them on their glass with great success. Not sure which product you are referring to but neither of these should be difficult to remove. You can try these things... 1) Re-wash the car or at least the glass. 2) Use a lightly damp microfiber towel. 3) Wash with a dish washing liquid and water mixture. 4) Use an good all purpose cleaner/degreaser that is safe on glass. 5) Use a compound as long as there is no window tint/film on the exterior of the glass. 6) Use rubbing alcohol.
