It took me the entire episode to finally realize who Tom Allen is. He played the young Pip Bin in the BBC radio comedy program ''Bleak Expectations''.

I feel wistful when I recall those halcyon days when I didn't know anything about UK politics, or US politics, or any politics. And I could sleep at night and just live my life. Oh, to return to 2015. (And thanks from the US, ViVaHD.)

One of the best episodes. Tom Allen was very sharp, Ayesha Hazarika had some great reactions and host Gary Lineker was funny with a lot of charisma. Great casting. I agree with the other poster who said that subtitles were needed for last week's host.

I don't think you understand the format of the show. Only the host is scripted. The guests are invited precisely for their ability to make humorous and/or uniquely informative off-the-cuff remarks. Forgive me, but your comment made me laugh. It's like you said, "I ate a meal prepared by professional chefs, and it was so delicious I thought they must have bought it in a can."

@@artemisstrong5113 I know it is an ad-lib format show and I regard Paul Merton as a genius at spontaneous funny remarks however I am sure they prepare for the topics that may come up, easy to do given that it is a news based show. The exchange between the two was very smooth, maybe it highlights just how good they both are as comedians.

16:54 Rudolf wasn't necessarily laughed at for the redness of his nose but for the shininess. "A very shiny nose… it glowed." He is also hired by Santa for his "Nose so bright". Therefore the shade of the nose is of no consequence because raindeers can still perceive luminescence, simply not its colour.

13:10 "chemises noires" = "black shirts". Reference to the Italian fascist paramilitary group. "la plume de ma tante" = my aunt's pen. A phrase that comes up a lot in beginner-level French. "Où est la plume de ma tante? La plume de ma tante est sur la table de mon oncle." etc.

"Now, if you thought, Westminster was in crisis - Brian's looking for his reading glasses in The Archers." The Archers is a long-running radio soap; the joke is following up the drama in British politics with the "catastrophe" of a guy having misplaced his glasses.

There's the old thing about "animals are colourblind." They're not, they just perceive colour differently than humans. Documentaries spout this nonsense, and the next thing they say is how fish and animals and plants are certain colours to attract pollinators or repel predators!! You can't have it both ways.
