Have I Got News For You S10E08 - Lee Hurst, Mark Little & Colin The Parrot

Комедия

First Broadcast on 15th December 1995.
The idea of having a parrot for this episode was from the producer the late Harry Thompson .He thought that training a parrot to heckle Angus was a great idea...or was it?

I can actually see why Merton left after this for a bit. This episode was quite painful and it got much funnier afterwards. I'm glad he came back though.

Both Mark and Paul are very funny but had little to say in this episode.

Carling is also the name of the rugby player she was rumoured to have been with for the past 20 or so episodes!

Merton really hated Deayton, didn't he? I like him a lot less having seen these early ones.

At this stage, they got on and invariably had a post-show drink; it was only when the first drugs/prostitute scandal occurred that the hate set in, with Merton angry at the hypocrisy and threat to the show. All this is playful banter, working the audience with his usual straight, dead-pan delivery!

@@SimonWhovian That's somewhat contradicted by Merton's 2002 Parkinson interview. He was always teasing Nicholas Parsons on JAM as well but you could tell how affectionate that was, this came across uncomfortably personal at times imo.

Merton didn't like him from the off and the scandals just gave him an actual excuse. On the interview with Parkinson he did say that he didn't like Deayton. Didn't Merton take a short break from the show after this episode because he wasn't happy? I think it was Merton's problem and you can easily see the difference between how he interacts with people that he likes vs the people that he doesn't. Deayton (dislikes)/Hislop (likes) and Fry (likes)/David Shayler(dislikes) and Kilroy (dislikes)/Lynam (likes). He wears his emotions like an open wound. Despite the 20 years that have past since Deayton has left the show, he is the best thing that could happen to it.
