Is it just me, or does it feel like HIGNFY has gotten a little spicier since the other shows' cancellations? Mock the Week, the Mash Report, Frankie Boyle's New World Order... Even though it's not my favourite of the litter, it feels like it's got the strongest roots having been on for so long, and is the one topical comedy programme that really would be difficult to cancel. Maybe I'm just projecting, but it seems to be biting harder than it used to (the extended gag about Michael Gove and cocaine, for example). It's like it knows that, of all the shows, it's the safest from the axe, and is rightly taking advantage of that.
@garrick3727
Жыл бұрын
I think it's more accurate to say it's back on form. They got really cautious the last few seasons. The hosts in particular are saying spicier things, to the point where even Ian and Paul are a little shocked, so I expect it's new writers and/or more freedom for the writers. As Paul pointed out, Naga tried to rush through the Gove comment, so it wasn't her line.

Perhaps a helpful Londoner will correct Ruth. Hugh must’ve been too chicken.
"mini retirement" here meaning those weekends where you go away and stop doing coke.
Not living in the UK, I don't know who Naga Munchetty is (until I looked it up). I think she's one of the best hosts this shows had this season, and that's going against some pretty tough competition. Also, she's nearly 50, which is neither here nor there, I was just surprised.

I *do* live in the UK but don’t have an actual TV and I watch all my TV via streaming services and/or sometimes catchup (essentially also streaming services), and also didn’t know who Naga Munchetty was… but I completely agree with you; she’s great in all respects!

But not necessary, one of the best things about classic British humour is that there is no need to say the punchline out loud, unlike in the States where it is common to explain the punchline at least twice, or in Canada where it is deemed unfair to someone or other if the punchline is not explained and....
Thanks for these!
In all my years of watching this show, that was the best one yet !
This episode casts the podcast 'The Diary of a CEO' in an unfortunate light. The interviewer is very good and his guests are usually not as shite as Gary Neville.
Good to see Ruth Davison, sorry, Baroness Ruth Davidson again. I am an ocean away, but she always seems like a level headed Tory to me.

She's on fire here and just a bit brutal. Reminds me of the early 2000s gay scene actually. She's looking trim too, politics was definitely weighing her down. Pun intended.

Strange happenings in The Odd One Out Round. They never mentioned Gollum (is that right?) image at all. Not a word about it. Does anyone know why? Also, the saddest words I can hear in this program are, "Just one between you this week." This show is so enjoyable, that any shortening of it is a bummer. Thanks so much for the uploads!

I hate to correct Ms Davidson, but as a chicken owner, I can confirm that eggs (and pooh) do come out of a chicken´s bottom. Chicken plumbing is not the same as human plumbing.

That was a quick and sharply funny line from Ruth Davidson right at the beginning.
@garrick3727

It's like they figured out they were vaguely off this week and just leaned into it. And somehow between the three professional comedians and someone I thought they identified as Baroness in the Conservative party, only the Baroness was actually doing great?
What's the scandal they're not allowed to talk about ('just trying to keep the lawyers awake')?
