    I'm glad someone is out there and helping baritone players to express more freely. There isn't enough info on this beautiful instrument! Keep it up bro

    Thank you for doing a play test with a slow, melodic tune. It's hard to hear differences when players just rip through their hottest licks or don't play anything structured. What you did really demonstrated the differences in response and tone. Very helpful.

    On bari I use a Rosseau JDX 7 and love it. Nice punch for holding down the low end on a big band and I can do altissimo as an 8th grader. When we've gone to competitions I've been featured and have won multiple awards with this mouthpiece wouldn't trade it for the world.

    Very well described. I'm glad u actually referred to treble and bass when describing the sound instead of throwing a bunch of wish wash words out that don't communicate anything (e.g. Round, vibrant, rich, clear)

    +Music By Pedro I have three mouthpieces for my alto. A Selmer C* S80, a JodyJazz Classical Size 6, and a JodyJazz Norteño size 7. Both the classical and Norteño versions of the JodyJazz mouthpieces have since been discontinued since I bought them. Each of the mouthpieces I have feels different because of the size and right now I've been sticking to the JJ Norteño.

  • @payabe

    Hey, First of all Nice video. Second , I was wondering if you could give me some advice on mouthpieces for baritone saxophone. I'm thinking of buying one but I don't exactly know which one. I'm looking for one that will be good for Concert Band and Jazz Band. The only one I have in mind is the V16 or JodyJazz HR 7 :/

  • @musicbypedro

    @musicbypedro

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Aceabe 4 I don't think you'll go wrong with the HR* 7. Perhaps switch to a more stuff Reed like the Legere Classic cut to get a bit darker sound for concert band. Then use a Legere Signature or softer Reed for jazz. Let me know what you end up doing! :)

  • @stevrsc

    If you were soloing on the bari, I'd take the Jody in a heart beat, it sounds like it cuts, and retains a lot of warmth that many "jazz baris" seem to loose. I just wonder how the Jody will sound as the bass voice of a section. I've always preferred a broader sound on bari, even in big band settings (I like a rumble in the tummy, not a punch in the gut, I'll let the bass bone do that). But I'm not a soloist, or a real jazz player, or really a sax player these days.

  • @musicbypedro

    @musicbypedro

    I agree. But the more I played it, the more I started falling in love with it. While it might seem like some bottom end is gone, the tone cuts and that's what I'm really looking for. Also do keep in mind that it was recorded with flat settings (no EQ or anything done in post) so I think it will be great.

    I play tenor and just switched from a classical mouthpiece to a Jody jazz hr *6. I have Vandoren size 3 jazz and regular reeds, and also two Legere signature series one 2 3/4 and one 3. I can't seem to make and sound and any sugestions would be greatly appreiciated.

    Alex IG - Okay; either you’re playing on too wide a tip opening, or you’re playing on too hard a reed. If you’ve come from a classical mouthpiece, then you’re coming from playing (in Selmer terms) sizes C, C*, C**, possibly even D. I’m that case, relating to the JodyJazz mouthpieces, if I was you, I would try out either the C* or the 5* first, rather than to extend straight away to a 6*. Since you have a 6*, then I would recommend for you to get a 2/2.25 strength (Legere Signature) or a Vandoren 2 or a Rico Jazz Select 2S, or a LaVoz Soft/Medium Soft. As someone who loves the Legere Signature reeds, I would say to get both the 2 and the 2.25 if you can, but if you can only get one, get the 2.

    I play a metal Ponzol on my tenor. I'm worried that a metal mouthpiece would be way to bright for the Bari sound I want to have. I have heard of the Theo Wanne but they're a bit pricey.

  • @finneyman

    @finneyman

    +Music By Pedro they are very pricy but I have not regretted it. The synthetic reed I got makes it not so bright. I'm actually liking my ce winds pure vintage which is a replica of a vintage ny Myers.
