Order “Death by Communism-Are We Next?” by Miriam Codias. That will put things in perspective for you. And, before you believe the lies they keep feeding you about Cuba before Castro, know that I was shocked to see the number homeless people in Toronto and Montreal. But, would I say that the well-established system of socialist Canada is an abusive system that causes the homelessness? Of course not. Would I say that the racism in Canada is so abusive that it is impossible for the poor to live in Canada? Of course not…that would be ridiculous. So it was with socialist Cuba before Castro. Everything was working as well as any government system could *without* having to install an oppressive, abusive internationally-run destruction machine of a “government”. So, please stop repeating the lies the evil wealthy global overlords keep propagating.

This video was filmed way back in a strange time known as "January". In this strange time, people known as "Travellers" used to get on strange devices known as "Airplanes" and rocket through the sky, until they landed in other countries. They then used to explore these strange countries, try new foods, and even meet with strangers on the street. Can you believe it? Almost feels like a dream, today. But here's hoping this strange time comes back again soon. Until then, hope you enjoy this video from Havana 🇨🇺🤙

Havana Vieja (the neighbourhood you walked while filming) has seen restoration works in an attempt to bring it back to its former glory. It was used as a form of resistance and was even prohibited at some point. It then spread among other Africanized countries, especially in Latin America. It’s very popular in other countries Too . I happen to practice in Canada.

I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing. I really like the way you appreciate the simple things, and find meaning in them, for the local people. And then you frame it in a larger context, in this case your background of coming from a developed, capitalistic country. But you are wise enough to question the differences but not label them, thereby respecting their culture. I look forward to watching more of your videos.

I have been to Cuba 4 times in de mid 90's way before cell phones and wifi (at that time it was just starting to come up in Europe) were popular and the energy and livelihood was wonderful! Very friendly people, beautiful old cities (Matanzans, Santiago de Cuba to name a few), good food on the resorts but also in the so called 'home restaurants' and awesome weather. Without internet, wifi and cell phones people do interact more and on different levels (as in my youth growing up in the 70's and 80's in the Netherlands). Yes, there are advantages with internet, etc but we also lost a very important life value: 'interaction with other people'! I love Cuba and hope to visit again once this pandemic shit is over! Your video brought back memories!!

The half dance and half marcial art name is Capoeira, it's very common in Salvador Bahia but we can also see it in Rio de Janeiro and others cities in Brazil.

That people at 8:40 where playing "capoeira" (yes playing and not dancying) . It's a game that slaves used to play for practice some marcial arts and to distract in their free-time. In Brazil we've this too, most common to find it in the state of Bahia that has a long story about slavery...

I have been going to Cuba for close to 30 years and I recently went and the situation is dire for the people outside of Havana. Even in Havana conditions are bleak for the people that live there. i found it typical they wouldn't accept there own money in the airport only Euro and Canadian dollars then they give you change in their money that is worthless outside of Cuba and is accepted in very limited places in Cuba. They want you to pay for everything with a credit/debit card which you cannot do if you are an American. The official exchanges wont even change dollars but there are people that will you just have to be careful .where you change it. I saw long lines of people trying to buy gasoline . Lines in front of stores that did have a few items to sell saw to store with huge lines that had near riots and had to have police called to calm things down. . Electrical outages up to 8 to 10 hours a day. I sat and suffered through sweltering heat with different Cuban people and everyone of them said their lives were so much better under Fidel. Not that he was a good person but there lives were better. My hear bleeds for my Cuban friends but I have no desire to ever return just remember the Cuba i knew and loved.
