For over 20 years the most powerful person in the Bronze Age world was a woman. One ruling the wealthiest Kingdom ever seen and she did it as a fully fledged Pharaoh.
But when she died her legacy was purposefully erased. Today people can barely pronounce her name.
Hatshepsut's rise to power was noteworthy as it required her to utilize her bloodline, education, and an understanding of religion. In this video, we'll look at her rise to power and her legacy.

    I'd like to defend Thutmose III here, because we don't actually know that it was him responsible for the erasure of Hatshepsut; while it may have been him acting on his son's behalf, Amenhotep II already had a level of power at the end of his father's reign, and it's therefore possible that he himself gave the order, and not his dear old dad.

    Thank you for this video, Hatshepsut is one of my favorite historical figures. People so often misunderstand her reign. I appreciate you describing why she was a king of Egypt and not just a queen. The terms are not actually equivalent, as a king holds power in their own right, a queen by proxy (unless you're the right kind of queen in the british system, but generally true). She must've been fierce. P.S. I love the creation story of Atum because it is so pragmatic. If the Creator creates the universe alone....how else is he gonna do it?

    Egypt, even a united Egypt, often had two Pharaohs at the same time. This was normally a Father & son once the son came of age. The Father represented Osiris and the Son Horus. It would have been relatively simple for Hatshepsut to use this for her purposes. Actually, the Egyptian's attempts to eradicate Hetshepsut's memory worked in reverse. It helped preserve evidence of her existence. She is more famous than most male Pharaohs.

    I'm pretty sure Egypt had only one king at a time except for two instances; A. Tuthmosis III and Hatshepsut B. • @Wandrative

    @Wandrative

    Your claims are borderline false in many levels. Pretty much the most famous has always been Ramsess the Great, and Egypt only had double Pharaohs at the end years of the old and the first years if the new monarch to pass the throne smoothly. And Hatshepsut was a Usurper Queen to begin with.

    This is great but don't forget about the cylinders of Pharaoh Pepi II are made from copper and zinc cylinders filled with quartz when held produce a subtle electrical healing energy up to 1.5 volts. Make them yourself or get them on amazon or etsy called "cylinders of the pharaoh"

    Something to Bear in Mind when considering the ages of all of these people: There was no such thing as "teenaged" until the start of the 20th Century. Notice how coming-of-age ceremonies throughout history and across cultures are at age 13 or so. So for almost all of human history (until the last couple of centuries), you were not merely "considered an adult," you were expected to _be adult._ You were expected to _behave like an adult._ You were expected to _do adult work._ At age 13, _Childhood. Was. _*_Over._*

    And Oh BTW: Since the average lifespan for most of human history would've been 40-50, at age 20 Hatshepsut would have been considered close to middle aged.

    I wanna see you do a video that concludes with the words, "I don't know and I don't care" in place of "we... let's find out!" It'd be a short video, admittedly.
