Hi mate from an Aussie expat ex Army soldier retired to Thailand. I myself am a huge long time slingshot and bow hunting hobbyist/hunter; I currently own over 20 slingshots, many very expensive Custom mades. All are banded exactly the same for consistent ballistics. However Mr. Bill Hays Hathcock''s of which I have 2 are among my own favorites. I shoot very powerful bands stretched to 550% of relaxed band length; and even my rather heavy home made lead shot, actually penetrates soft tissue areas doing huge internal damage. Through only thousands of hours practice now; although I will never be in Mr. Hays league of accuracy. I nearly never need a second shot to hit a coke/beer can at 50 meters. Now just imagine 15 to 35 gram lead shot doing to any creatures skull, what you heaviest golf iron would do to a teed up raw egg ?...Yes right, instant end of life. Keep practicing mate and you can with work be much more accurate okay....Cheers Allan Leigh

Hey Krik, been watching your channel for some time, always enjoy your videos. Great to see you have got the Hathcock Target Sniper, I'm a big fan of slingshot and Bills designs! Some double Theraband Gold tapered from 20mm to 15mm with 12mm lead balls should give you around the 250 fps mark, a good hunting setup, if you want some bands I would be happy to make some for you and send them over as a gift. I've tried several different slingshots and nothing compares to the Hathcock Target Sniper. I use the double band set and it packs quite a punch.

You need an anchor point to line up your shot, like in archery. That might help you with your consistency in shooting. When I learned this, it helped me. I use the bottom of my earlobe for an anchor point. Before that, I couldn't have hit the broad side of my mother-in-law with a sling shot(who has some considerable girth) I have recently dug out my old wrist rocket. It had been thirty years since I shot it. I wanted to teach my son how to shoot. Hope this helps.

Nice video & as us sling shot users say its all in the fun of plinker shooting. I use the black band cause its got a tighter or stronger pull needed for squirrel or bird hunting. I hate chasing a wounded animal for a second shot. Good job & I'll look for it up here on Vancouver Island.

i´m sure you allready improved on the lowhitting issue...and i´m sure a ton of people allready gave this advice, but i think it would help to actually get an anchor-point in your face. like in bow-shooting you bring the pulling hand towards your face and actually anchor your fingers either in the corner of your mouth or on your cheekbone...that brings alot of consistency! great video...nice slingshot!

Just as with a bow, pick an anchor point. D't let your right hand just float. Even if its half butterfly like you seem to want to shoot find some reference on your body that you get to every time. That will really help consistency.

I use Dankung 50/80 tubes with 12 mm lead balls which i find to be a great setup gives a lot of power and much longer lasting than theraband golds, while still being fairly easy to draw back.

I have 2 of the Hathcock Slingshots me and my wife love them.But I been using a moving blanket to stop the ammo but it just blow wright thou.What do you use.It don't look like you blow holes in that.

The tube on my daisy snapped so I was looking for something better and picked up the Hathcock. I like to shoot clay beads off my deck into the pond and aim for floating leaves. Planning some hanging tin cans and spinning wooden targets for the back yard.

I think your issue with hitting low is when you bring your head down to look down the bands, you bring your pouch hand up. I think it is like how if you keep the muzzle of a gun in place but you raise the gun stock up the point if impact will be lower because of the angles. So maybe raise the whole slingshot/bands so there is no angle change but you can get your eye low enough to aim.

Cool video. One thing you can do to help improve accuracy is adjust the way your holding the elastic. If you watch the video you can see the top band is parallel to the ground and the bottom elastic is slightly angled, because the bottom has more tension it will pull your shot down making you hit low. If you hold it so both angles of the elastic bands are a mirror image of each other it will leave the slingshot strait.

Is that one the matte black or shiny black version?

I have several homemade slingshots, not an ace shot by any means. Now having said that, it looks as if right before you release you anticipate the release and it gives you a slight downward pull. As I said I am, by no means, an ace with a rock flinger. I had this issue myself with a north south flinger, I somewhat fixed it by copying my bow shot follow through. I don't know if you shoot bow or not. but when you release the pouch try and roll your wrist towards the target. Should give you a smoother release, or at least a consistent one. Thank you for the video and your willingness to listen to your subscribers. Aim small, miss small, hunt or be hunted.

I noticed you asked about bands get a roller cutter from Amazon and a roll of theraband gold and some precut pouches and some small washers straight cut two 12 inch by 20 mm strips and put the rubber through each side so you have 6 inch double bands place the washers down by the pouch to secure it and you will have a great bandset for hunting and target shooting and use in conjunction with .44 lead ball for muzzle loading rifles don't buy bands make your own to suit your needs and draw lengths gamekeeper jhon has a few videos on the topic

Where are you shooting at? That looks like a trail on Mt Spokane.

Also, how can I go about testing this particular slingshot, or any other outdoor/camping/survival equipment? I would love to get into reviewing items, mainly because of my military background, and for the spirit of survival. Please let me know what you can, at your convenience.

I twist the pouch at a 90dg angle give it a try thum facing forward index finger pointing down I twist the pouch anti clock ways so it's vert an hold the cat side ways give it a go you may see a hell of difference in aming

When you go to aim don't hold it for a while and try to get everything lined up. Just draw back instinctively and let the shot got within a second or to otherwise your hand will start to shake. All the best Harry Loud

Canada uses the Metric system. Has done so since the 1980's.

How does this compare to a wrist rocket? I know some parts of the US call them braced slingshots, but in my part of the woods we call them wrist rockets.

Sling shot can be great as a survival weapon. It doesn't take and weight too much and eventualy any rock could replace the ammo. Great review. Atb Louis

Lt Survival Exactly. And rocks will work, if you can find a source that's been weathered by water. I've shot with rocks before, but their flight patterns are just so unpredictable. -Krik

The photography equipment and so forth literally looks commercial. Probably the best-looking video I've ever seen on KZread. I'm in the United States and I would really like to get that thing but it's seventy-five bucks plus fifteen bucks shipping from the UK so I'll have to pass on it. Shipping could take a year the way this virus is affecting everybody. The things that attracts me about it is the wide width, one piece, sideways for aiming down the band. I don't own a slingshot. by God when I buy one (next week) I'm just buying ONE and I'm going to work with that one and learn it perfectly and become a professional with it. I am too poor to make mistakes when purchasing. Thanks for the look-see. It made me think about a few things a little bit differently.

My hand is too small for it. The slingshot goes about 1/2 way to the target :-) I got the smaller version, and it fits. Point being there is a smaller version.

You need an anchor point in order to be consistent.

How is metal not natural material?

The ammo is 3/8 in or 9.5mm. Steel ammo is not really that bad for the environment. It’s just rusts and goes back into the earth. You should try some clay ammo if you really don’t want to pick them up. You should try some Simple-Shot black or GZK green bands. Tharaband is no longer the standard it was and the bands have to much inconsistencies between rolls. Cut your bands to the proper length get your draw length and then divide it by 5 (if you want them to last a little longer) or 5.5 (if you want all the power from your bands) to get the right band length. 5.5 is the best because bands are cheap. Also taper them a 25mm to 20mm taper is good for target shooting. Get your anchor point right. Wider fork slingshots usually have them low about your lower jaw or chin. Try a smaller pouch to help with speed. An update video with what you learned would be awesome. I have one of the newer polycarbonate HTS and it is awesome.

nice point about not taking it to your face until its in to full draw...i broke my cheepo kids slingshot and almost broke a finger when the frame snapped....lucky it wasnt up at my head :(

unless it's a pain to switch them. maybe it's just me, but when I have difficulty with a dexterous task (pool, darts, sling shots) I try to switch hands. I'm much better at pool lefty vs righty - opposite is true for darts.

BlackOwlOutdoors Do you know which eye is your dominant eye? You really want to learn to shoot so that you can use your dominant eye for aiming. I'm right handed but left eye dominant, so I shoot left handed. This includes bows, shotguns, and slingshots.

The size ammo is dictated by the bands that you use. They should be matched to get the best performance and experience from any slingshot. The Hathcock has a very wide fork. It could shoot anything from 8 mil all the way up to 12 mil steel or lead. Bill usually ships a small handful of ammo with each slingshot. I believe it's 3/8 of an inch that came with mine and the bands that he had set up on them.

I have found better accuracy by looking right down the band. Your eye is above the band so you shoot low. The newer Scorpion is my favorite.

The ammo pouch is nice, long as you don't have to do a quick shot.

One name. As mentioned already: MCQ Bushcraft. Pings Grey Squirrels from long distances quite consistently. Humble dude. Excellent skills and knowledge in the Slingshot realm. I only wish slingshots were even legal where I hail from.

Weird slingshot i like the axiom ocularis from simple shot better also those look like 3/8 steel shot also those ball bearings are so small nobody will ever even notice them in the woods

Just a observation, since I know absolutely nothing about slingshots, but they seem more for deterring or stunning larger organisms, rather than causing permanent damage. Might cause some jolly good welts or so, and perhaps a crack or two, but nothing lethal, I suppose. Good as a deterrent.

Has anyone order one of these slingshot recently. I ordered one after watching this video and it said it would ship out in 14 business day. It is way pass that and I have received no update from the seller. I tried to email them and also got nothing back from them.

The rambone is a brilliant slingshot yes. But it is hammer grip so you can never gain as great control over the slingshot. joerg sprave creates brilliant slingshots but Bill hays is the master of slingshots hiding in the shadows.

hey that is kinda cool i seen one kinda like that but it was not built well at all that one looks pretty good the one im talking about looked like it had ears on it and just junky looking you know what i mean i like the one you got i have a simpleshot scout xl or xt and a old crosman wrist rocket that is like shooting a rifle for me i have had it for 40 years though but most of the time i out shoot pro s with it they cant believe it but yeh just all the time i have shot it and have taken many rabbits with it just make sure you use the edge of the slingshot arm to aim and when you look down the bands you can only see the top band allways try to hide the bottom band with the top one and use your finger joint to hold the ammo if you just do that and pay attention every time and do the same thing every time you will shoot it like a rifle before to long it is easyer lol lol than a long bow by far and i am a tournament archer and have been for over 40 years slingshots are the best packable weapons and hunting tools on the planet and yes convert it to shoot arrows you can kill deer with it to or anything ealse in america for that matter any way cool bud loved the video great my brother yes

If you are shooting low, either raise the slingshot hand or lower the pouch hand. THWACK!

i might be wrong but it appears as though you are holding the slingshot too high up... as in too far up the body of the slingshot with your gripping hand... at least it looks like that on the video

The pouch is way too large and you dont have a steady anchor point. That's why your not hitting. Your head tilt and thus point of aim changes without a solid and consistent anchor

Obviously, you don't shoot a bow. What you need to do is ANCHOR the pouch holding hand to the same position on your face each time. The rest comes with practice.

Krik, There are allot of great slinshots out there to look at. multiple choices in bands, stuff that even shoot close to a 3/4" steel or lead ball ammo..... even a dual purpose slingshot/slingbow like the Chief AJ HFX can be not only enjoyable but can take larger game, and you can bowfish with them too. I grew up shooting slingshot and it can be addictive. once you really get bit and get really good, I have seen guys take moving objects like Pheasant with them, ( mason Parker), He even makes his own slingshot, kinda high but good custom work. It's just all in how deep you want to go. Great video, nice shooting.

Personally I like .030, .040 Medical latex over theraband gold. the latex is faster.

I'm right handed in everything, except shooting a slingshot. I shoot a bow right handed but I'm more comfortable and WAY more accurate with a slingshot left handed.

Nice video. But yet, another person who talks safety, but fails to wear eye protection.

I'm not trying to criticize, but you should probably have some safety glasses on when doing that. Also, I'm not a big fan of companies "naming products" after people who never endorsed their products..."to honor them". It's just another way for them to make money off of someone's name. In this case a slingshot company is marketing a product after one of the greatest snipers in US history.
