YOU have helped me profoundly! I do not have a natural singing voice. I was once told that I'm "tone deaf." Nice friend, eh? 😅 But that just gave me more determination to learn how to sing...in a healthy way. Your breakdowns and examples have been tremendously helpful. Especially breath support. I'm not straining my vocals. Still a work in progress but I will get there! Thanks for all you do!

What is frustrating is the loss of range as I got older. In my 20's I had a solid range from Low C (Bass) to High C (Soprano). No breaks, smooth transitions. I was ridiculed by the person I was living with for sounding too much like a girl so I basically stopped singing for 25 years. I have gone to a lot of coaches, all of whom couldn't earn my trust as a vocal coach. They weren't accustomed to my voice type. So it has been a struggle to gain what I had. When I did get back to singing after my long hiatus, I could only sing to C4! I was with one coach and she was able to get me to B4 in chest voice. And then another coach had me singing up to A5. I sometimes can get that high but I feel I get too much tension in my throat and in my brain! I seem to tell myself a lot that I cannot sing that high anymore. I so want to sing Whitney Houston songs again, etc.

I thought you sing as a countertenor? If so, focus on the alto/mezzo-soprano or soprano range.

I grew up knowing that I couldn't sing and that I sounded like a cat being swung around b its tail. My parents simply could not stand the sound of me singing. As an adult this has had drastic impact on me and I really have had to go out and learn about my voice. I love your videos and just wanted to thank you for all the effort you give out to us

For years I really didn't like my voice. I didn't have vibrato, voice sounded not dull but tight. Despite this, I kept practicing with my teacher and now I have so much fun when I sing. Some things just need a time and patience to develop. Just believe in yourself. Your videos are precious! Thank You! 🙂

Start with speaking lightly at a higher pitch and also doing sirens. Allow your tone to thin out or lighten, even if you don’t like the sound for now. It’s part of training.

I'm 40, and I love to sing since I was little. Since then I like to sing along musics and artists that I like, and most of them are female. Sing along is fun, for sure. But I feel now that it never was the nicest thing to do for my voice and to find my voice, because I was always trying to mimic what I hear, and that's kind of unconscious when we don't know what we are doing. Most of the times the voice tone or range of others doesn't fit ours, and discover that very late is making things very difficult to reverse the process and learn properly all over again. I don't like my voice most because of that, coz I feel that mimicking others so much throughout the years made my voice kind of lost its own personality. When I'm singing alone, now I'm able to recognize when my true voice appears from when I'm unconscious trying to mimic someone, but like u said, it's a process. For people like me, that live in a place where access to vocal classes is very difficult, for sure KZread was amazing on finding channels of reliable vocal coachers and teatchers like you. Discover your channel gave me a very different perspective. So I must thank your for that.

No, but if it gets worse with singing, it is usually a sign of irritation. This should improve as your technique improves and you reduce excess tension.

I don't know how well known she is in the USA?. but our (UK) Kate Bush said in early interviews that though she could naturally sing in tune, never liked the sound of her own voice. Milllions did though and she became a superstar. Probably the best female singer-songwriter we have ever produced, the British Joni Mitchell I always say she is.!

I'm feel like this. I never loved my voice. Though sometimes I can to like of little elements in my voice. Well, I study in conservatory for some years and I give more classical songs in my repertoire for to study every day, however, I don't got nothing thrust for to sing in public with many people around me and looking through me. Yeah, I ask about myself why I yeat sing and so many classical songs if I simply can't to sing close of many people and really to live like a real singer. I have more flexibility for to high notes up the C5 in italian notation. But, I feel that doesn't matter already that I don't believe in me and to sing high doesn't make you a good singer. I simply study so many songs without to know why. In conservatory, only we study songs and songs... But we don't got the confidence minimum for to going on to singing joyfullly. The Conservatory doesn't make us confidence and satisfied singers with our instruments. Thank you for your words! I liked it!! Make me feel better❤❤❤❤❤❤

This depends on what style you want to sing, and male or female. Generally, pick a song that sits in a comfortable part of your voice and has a smaller range.
