    Regarding the digital back mounted on the analog part: As per my experience, thing is digital being super high resolution compared to film, you do need to crank up the shutter speed (and therefore ISO) significantly else you will clearly notice some blur due to the shutter. Yes it’s a leaf shutter but with digital that’s super Uber noticeable.

    the modularity is the biggest asset delivering a hybrid film and digital shooting experience -- this is really cool. my only question is why they haven't offered a full 6x6 medium format sized sensor -- is that too expensive? too much processing? the lenses aren't being use to their full potential with this smaller digital sensor

  • @Turpentinefab

    @Turpentinefab

    5 ай бұрын

    It would be too expensive. The cost scaling is wild. the largest sensors available are the phase one IQ4 series. They are something like $40k for 150MP and still not even a full 6x4.5 coverage. They are the successor to the Mamiya system. The Hasselblad H6d back is the same sensor as the phase one iq4. I do not believe Hasselblad is currently producing the H system cameras and backs. I don't think anyone is making a full 6x6 sensor. I am not familiar with the reason it doesn't exist but the considerations for yield would be; that the mother glass doesn't cut down to squares without a lot of waste, and that the yield is simply too low at that size. The processing can be handled by throwing money at it. The processors in cameras are very RISC based and can just be scaled up with money. That would reduce battery life but for something like this that isn't really a thing people care about.

    Whoa, your video showed up before I even received an email notice from Hasselblad! I was seriously wondering if they were going to abandon the 907C “body”. It’s great to see that they have instead updated the sensor in this back. A few thoughts you can perhaps address in upcoming videos. This back appears to have no weather resistance whatsoever, much like the old 500 series film cameras, which is a shame, because it bigs to be a take it with you as an every day carry camera. It also appears to lack the really excellent sensor image stabilization of the X2D 100C. As much as I would prefer the form-factor of this setup, I don’t regret purchasing the X2D for its abilities outdoors in poor weather conditions, as well as at dawn, dusk, and at night. You’re one lucky man to have this, regardless!

    Hey Benj, nice video! I’m happy for you that you get to keep the camera! I’m a proud owner of the 907x 50C II, I also shoot on my Hasselblad 501CM, SWC and use by 50C on them as well as film. Been a hassy shooter for over 20 years. Not sure if Hasselblad commissioned you to do a very hyped video for them in exchange for the body, but I haven’t heard you say any negative points about the new model, surely you have some…. I’m pretty sure the missing live histogram is an absolute oversight, the fact they haven’t implemented this on the new model and no firmware update for the 50C is just laughable! I’ve used the 907 in bright day light and it’s a nightmare! You can’t see much just a vague composition of your frame, forget seeing your exposure! A live histogram would make shooting this camera so much more better! If the D2X has one why not on these models? If you have some pull power reach out to Hasselblad and push them to implement his in firmware update for both 50C and this new one! the other thing is why not release the hotshoe adapter as an optional accessory to purchase? What…. the 50C users don’t shoot flash or have the need to mount triggers?… it’s a bit of a joke!

  • @benjhaisch

    @benjhaisch

    Hey thanks for the comment! Yeah, this video is definitely more of a “showcase” than a “review” in my book. Anytime something of significant value is exchanged, it’s hard for me to really consider a video like that a review, even if the company has no say in the outcome. The camera isn’t perfect for sure, but it mostly improved on my gripes from the original 907x 50c which is what I chose to focus on as well as explaining the camera to those who aren’t familiar. But yeah, I’ve already sent Hasselblad multiple feature requests that could be implemented in firmware. I’m not sure if the 50c back has the Hotshoe electronics in that same section of the camera as the 100c, but that would be my assumption. Happy with to answer anything else for you :)

  • @benjhaisch

    Is it pointless to use a CFV100c on a V system? Since the older V mount lenses (I tested with my cfi50 and cfi150) can't even deal with 50 megapixels, not to say a 100 megapixels back. And compared with x2d, it lacks stabilization which is a major upgrade from x1d2.

    I do wish that was an option but simply holding the camera rotated 90° isn’t nearly as bad in practice as it seems. I would love if they somehow made a version where the sensor could be rotated like an RZ67 but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    @@benjhaisch thanks for the reply. I think it would be a nice option and that holding the camera simply vertically forces the user away from holding it at waist level and therefore use it as intended. Now im going to watch your other video about the electronic shutter disadavantages with manual lenses without the leaf shutter. I get the impression, that its not a camera for me because of these points and i really wish it would.
