Iam one of the Musubi farms outgrowers. I have so far planted 20 acres and will be increasing the acreage as soon as my Avocados get to the second year. Young avocado seedlings are challenging to grow..but…. this is the best decision i have made so far in my farming journey.

@@ronniewamala5768 hi, lets say a 5 year old plant gives you 800 mature fruits during harvest, lets say you do not even export these and you sell them on the local market for say Ug 300shs per fruit. That would be 240,000shs per tree. So lets say you have a minimum of 1000 mature trees, that would be 240,000,000shs a season. If you get into the european market, the fruit would definitely sell for more than the 300shs estimate. The more trees you have, the better. Even if you sold the fruits for less than 300shs, you would still be making money.

Musubi farm has fresh water lake shore, Lake Victoria. There are numerous open river streams as well as wells in most parts of Uganda. Those who dont have proximity to open water irrigation construct boreholes. These range from a few feet deep to 140 feet deep with fresh water good for everything. Good Boreholes and wells in Uganda including pumps cost between $2,000- $10,000 pumped by solar or generators. Remeber uganda is on the Equator so it has 2 rainy seasons meaning 2 harvesting seasons. This isn't the case to North America and europe where they have only one harvesting season unless they use temperature controlled horticulture which have to be subsidised by their rich governments.

So this has been why the Kikuyu and Kalenjin ran government were adamant in pushing the Maasai of their grazing lands in order to grow avocados 🥑 for foreigners. How much farm land in Kenya is dedicated to feed its own people or are they dependent imports❓Africa need to be careful with gentrifying their arable land for exports. Specialisation (economics) was taught to Africans to serve white countries - i.e. Specialise and ship. This does not serve the locals who are left with food insecurity as they are subjected to a fluctuating cost of imported ingredients. Countries should only dedicate 25% of their arable land to foreign crops for exports.
