Hasbro Laying off THOUSANDS Over ABYSMAL Sales

Ойын-сауық

Hasbro, the company who makes all that unsellable Disney junk is in deep trouble as they're laying off an additional 1,100 employees, on top of the hundreds already let go this year. In this video, we look at the data and the backlog of toys clogging retail shelves.

Disney twisted the knife, but TRU's demise was due to the leveraged buy-out and the corporate vultures who owned the company at the end. When TRU was its own company run by actual businessmen and not stock-market marauders, they made a point of eliminating the biggest recurring expense any business has: rent. TRU (like Sears once upon a time) owned all of their buildings outright - no rent (the one I worked at was the lone exception in the entire US because it was on the Pima Indian reservation, so they couldn't buy the land). First thing the jagoff vultures did was sell all the property and turn every store into a renter. EVEN with that added expense, TRU was turning a profit at the end (not much of one, but still a profit) IF you took out the interest payments for the LBO. That was what killed them, not Disney. Look at it this way, they were on fire and instead of trying to put out the fire, Disney/Hasbro just kept tossing sticks into the blaze to see who much faster they could get it to burn.

With less employees Hasbro now need 20 - 25% less executives, and 20 - 25% less board members, or are they only cutting the people that do the work? Action figures are traditionally 'boys toys', and female figures don't sell to young boys. Young girls are onboard with girls toys, no matter what the ESG scores say. Have a look how many of the Hasbro Ollies stacks are female figures... Hasbro also own 'Wizards of the Coast', and through them they've been messing up Dungeons and Dragons too by pissing off the fans.

That's because what's considered "kid stuff" is generational. As an adult *I* determine what *my* interests are. Unfortunately, Disney and Hasbro destroyed the good will of adult toy collectors by flooding the market with cheap-yet-overpriced crap which is destroying an industry that took two-to-three generations to build. During the Sequel Trilogy days, Hasbro confirmed that they almost went BANKRUPT because of how badly the Sequel Trilogy Merch was selling. The only thing that saved them was the unexpected success of the Transformers toys...and the My Little Pony toys (yes, due to this, I do in fact take credit for contributing to the continued existence of Hasbro). Don't forget, both Disney and Star Wars made the MAJORITY of their profit via merchandise - Streaming/Cinema Ticket sales are so much less valuable in comparison that they're essentially glorified advertisements. So after the Sequels came out and had terrible sales, to the point where Hasbro and LEGO barely make any products from them, I thought "Hey, Disney will quitely shelve the Sequels because they were clearly a failed experiment, and only focus on the Lucas Era from now on." Then, Kennedy announced the (Ma-)Rey (Sue) Trilogy and I am, to put it simple, flummoxed, vexed and stumped. This is tantamount to Kennedy coming out and saying "I literally want to use all our money as toilet paper, then burn it." You are taking your MAIN revenue stream (merch), pouring gasoline over it and setting it on fire. There is no precendent for such an absurd, self destructive policy. Literally the only explanation for this is if they are getting a MASSIVE revenue stream from somewhere else, one that could eclipse thier merchandise sales *cough* *cough* BLACKROCK *cough* *cough*

One of the major problems is that they have to eat the losses of unsold products and Disney has made it impossible for them to store things like they used to due to the oversupply of Marvel and Star Wars toys. They recent began dumping the Magic the Gathering stuff as well, but they're still able to pressure stores to maintain their Wizards LGS status right now to prop up numbers. But sooner or later, that's going to collapse because the LGS can't eat the losses forever.

How can Disney when have PR at that time when Time forcce Airs. All was need for the Yellow ranger was only to find the "girl" (OG was a dude) to ACT The part (Tho there was not much the other 3 ranger to do for mostly Red and pink was leading the way) THEN THEY PUT LESBIAN ON IT..Almost EVERYTHING I watch have Les. But I dont see "normal" rommance....AND A REAL "Disabled" person in there....I speak for myself...WHY THE FUCK DO I WANT TO REMIND MYSELF IN FANTASY

I'm a minor Transformers collector. Impossible to make sense of Hasbro's distribution. Some figures are instantly impossible to find. Others languish on store shelves for a year or more. Products show up in certain regions and not others. Preorders ship months early. It just makes no sense. It's maddening.

That BARBIE movie is moving merch. At my Amazon Facility we see tons of those Barbie Dreamhouses out of trucks. Last week we pulled 10 out of one truck. Boys toys only toy I see selling well is HOT WHEELS, action figures attached to super hero movies and Star Wars are peg warming. For one they were made for adult collectors and second boys just do not play with action figures like they used to. One they are old enoigh to hold a xbox controller, its over. Summer of 2020 I also saw a wave of the Malibu Dreamhouses come through my facility.

One of the IPs that Hasbro has and fans want to see more of is Jem and the Holograms. With streaming and internet social media there is a lot of ways to reimagine Jem. But no, Hasbro made one absolutely terrible Jem movie a couple of years ago, which absolutely bombed, and now they think the fans don't want to watch Jem instead of realizing that what happened is that the movie was terrible. A lot of fans were truly excited for that Jem movie and felt nothing but disappointment when they saw how awful it actually was. Hasbro is the Disney of toy companies. Pure and simple.

"Kids don't play with traditional toys anymore" tried shopping for my little brother and a cheap looking Miles Morales action figure was like $25! As a kid myself in the early 2000's a Toby Maguire Spiderman would have been like $10 before 2020's inflation.

You have an amazing point on the marvel comics marketed with the movie. Half of the characters from the MCU your average layperson has never heard of. If they had the comic out in a special edition as a tie in to the movie would have been great

the toys don't look like they're very fun to play with and it's all made for collectors, not kids and that is where their mistake lies. what makes the older toys so valuable was kids played with them to the point they were destroyed and it was rare to find one in mint codition. that's what gave them their value.

And with GIJoe they're constantly trying to Un-Americanize A Real American Hero. Laughable.
