@@frbe0101Actually, I would argue Bernie *may* have won a primary if not for two things. 1) Elizabeth Warren purposefully staying in 2020 primaries longer than she had to, knowing that she had already lost her chance to win it. I lost a lot of respect for her in that moment because she betrayed progressives just to spoil Bernie. 2) DNC corruption, which will inevitably happen here too. But it’s harder to get away with that when a progressive is brazenly winning the primaries. Regardless, you cannot split the vote against an incumbent in a primary. Elizabeth could do this against Bernie bc they were both progressives w/ similar platforms, an he was not an incumbent. So splitting the *progressive* vote in primaries is somewhat possible. Marianne can’t do this against Biden though. All this to say that you can and should vote for whoever you want in primaries, regardless of whether you think they’ll win.

@@healgoth people tend to forget that as an elected official you are allowed to hold your own personal beliefs, as long as you're not acting on them and rather act in the expressed interest of your constituents. Thats the whole basis of a political party, in which you and your peers obviously won't agree on every minutiae of politics. The system isn't supposed to depend on someone being morally perfect in every way so you can elect them and just know they do all the "right "things. Democratically elected leaders are supposed to represent their voters, no matter if they share their voters beliefs 100%. I don't care if in reality she's a quack "crystal mommy", if the policy and politics she actually employs are the ones her voters want, not the ones she feels fuzzy about in her heart of hearts. She actually uses this as her main argument for the systematic change she apparently advocates for. One of the main complaints voters have is not feeling represented. Biden could be the most corpo fellating demon in his private life, but if he instated medicare for all, made college free and raised the minimum wage, how would that matter? He would still be enforcing the will of the majority, as he is supposed to as a democratic leader. (Whenever I say democratic, I mean the system, not the party btw.) The issue is that there are no consequences when, after tricking people into voting for you, you do the exact opposite of what you promised.
@shang0h
Жыл бұрын
The conspiracy was instigated as part of the well documented and understood decade+ campaign to stoke divisions of all kinds in america (and western society at large). The moment was ripe to drive the wedge in by marrying the tiny preexisting antivax population and the greater anti-science thread of the right wing (anti global warming, etc), which was then seized upon by people cynically hammering the division further for political power and financial gain (directly selling "wellness" cures -- the alternative medicine industry is >$100bn -- or simply snake oil, or indirectly with social media careers, etc) The fair criticism would be that we've been extremely slow to acknowledge and take seriously that this is already widespread and won't go away through people being observing and coming to terms with the mountain of empirical evidence validating the actual medical claims while thoroughly discrediting the "heterodox science" on this topic, and as such the messaging needed to tackle "widespread vaccine injury" and so on head on addressing the disinformation by thorough persuasive education, rather than ignoring it and using the precise language of science alone, which is easily exploited to fuel and build that disinformation.

So far PBS, and CNN are the last hold outs. She's been on a fair amount of major Networks now.
Marianne seems like the best candidate. It does feel like the Dems after 2024 will push someone like Gavin Newsom, which would be a shame when they have such an amazing truly progressive candidate in Marianne.

@@orensishshe was never anti-vax. Her entire criticism was focused on the lack of CARE that goes along with treatment, including mental health like depression. She had some goofy little lines about spiritual health but it was meant to be a call for more COMPREHENSIVE CARE, rather than assuming a vaccine would be a one-off solution. I used to get the ick from her talk about spiritualism and woo woo, but the more I look around at my mother and women her age, THIS is how they express their idealism and progressive beliefs. It gets filtered through this goofy hippy talk, but it also reassures me that she actually means it. @@rvnhty I have generalized anxiety disorder. And it's fairly extreme. So I don't think that's a fair assumption. (Literally. I can't take benzos, but recently I was given one for lasik and I could suddenly talk to people normally without constantly feeling anxious. It was sad because I realized id never be able to have that ever. Benzos are way too habit forming and the last time I went off them, it took a year to get back to my baseline because they actually increased my anxiety without the medication. Not sure why you assume everyone with anxiety is also good at picking up on social cues... Also, an alternative explanation is that some of us have anxiety so extreme that a normal or even slightly elevated level of it looks calm to us. I wouldn't even be able to do Hasan's job. I can barely deal with my Zoom camera being on, let alone stream for 8 hours a day...
