Has feminism gone too far? - with Christina Hoff Sommers and Camille Paglia (1994) | THINK TANK

EVENT: How the Sexual Revolution Created Identity Politics bit.ly/2k34iL1
Original air date: November 4, 1994
On this episode of Think Tank, two controversial feminists, who share a view that is different from the modern feminist movement, discuss what is wrong with other feminists’ outlooks.
Host:
Ben Wattenberg - senior fellow, American Enterprise Institute
Panelists:
Camille Paglia - professor of humanities at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, author of "Vamps and Tramps"
Christina Hoff Sommers - professor of philosophy at Clark University, author of "The War Against Boys: How Misguided Feminism Is Harming Our Young Men" and "Who Stole Feminism"
"Think Tank with Ben Wattenberg" was a discussion program that aired on the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) from 1994 to 2009, hosted by AEI Senior Fellow Ben Wattenberg. AEI offers uncut episodes of "Think Tank with Ben Wattenberg" as an academic resource that shows how American political thought has evolved on some issues and stayed the same on others.

So many many years later, and the talking points have not changed. If anything, it's gotten much worse. Alternate interpretation: Like all forms of prejudice, male-bashing/misandry/gynocentrism/female privilege is, to some degree, not remedial. The sooner we all accept this, and recognize that, for most part, it's a nuisance rather than an existential threat to civilization as we know it, the better off we'll all be

It's ferociously honest and delightful - how brave for these two lovely women to stood up for their truth and to bash the gender bias and anti-male, anti-scientific agenda in the Humanities that now has reached metastasis not only inside the Academe circles, but the media, public discourse, curriculum and mainstream culture! I could only imagine how frustrating it must be for them to be talking about the very same issues today, which fatally aggravated 16 years later. I'm sick of all the crap about toxic masculinity, rape culture and the gender gap. I have only respect for them -specially Paglia for whom I'm an avid devotee. Her unapologetic wit and her nuance stands on religion are absolutely spot on and brilliant. Not to mention her manic rhetoric and deep erudition. THAT is a Super Woman!

Humanity loves to give attention to negativity and that is what modern feminism has become. We in various anime and game groups have respect for these two women for standing up for the truth of what feminism has become. There are battles to be fought and all the male bashing, all this seeking of attention prevents us from sending reinforcements to those fights. I wish that these two would promote some of the fights for women's rights that still need to be fought more often.

We live in a gynecocracy. In few years boys will be given tampons as part of their college admission package. I think we mostly all agree that we need equality of opportunity and equal pay for equal work. We also need equal punishments for equal crimes. And we need equal treatment in divorce & family courts.

It's a degree in feminism, and you get hired in the public sector or in teaching, universities etc.,. In the UK, at least, there has been an oversupply of graduates with these qualifications since the 1990's anyway.

Who is to blame for this insanity???

Mark Landrebe it’s only a matter of time that all weak beta men and feminists will see and understand that they were wrong all this time for giving more and more power allowing women to not be accountable for their actions. How insulting to our female companions. They will understand that we are different not better than anyone, but have our pros and cons and it’s fair. But until then I fear we will have more battles to fight.

True equality can only be accomplished when we stop adding are they male or female and only care about what they do and how good are they. To run as a society we have to be as efficient as possible and only accept people based on skill. What we need to remove is stereotypes and all gender roles and if we build off of personal skill then as a society we will be more efficient and stronger.
