Back in the day, the one thing old school lolitas would worry about the most was fabric and lace quality. This was oftentimes what would divide actual lolita from costumes. If the fabric quality is getting worse, then it's not as wearable for every day! Its disappointing because angelic prettys designs are so cute

I really appreciate your honest review. I think nowadays there’s way too many lolitas worried about being noticed by their favorite Burando, who never criticize the items they get. There’s nothing shady or mean about commenting on a brand’s choices, so props to you. And I’ll go ahead with my day still reminiscing the sheen of that collar 💀

I was honestly a bit nervous to show off the faults of this dress, but my community deserves to know the truth even if its heartbreaking 😭 I literally had to turn the brightness down on all this footage because that dang COLLAR was reflecting the light so badly!! 💀💀💀

Ew, that fabric sounds like a shower curtain or a vinyl tablecloth you see at cheap diners! Which is a shame because this was one of the first AP prints in a long while that I liked the look off (not enough to buy it, but still, it's progress after so many "meh" or downright "nope" releases for me). The mint was my favourite colourway, but I'm old enough to know to prioritise comfort over looks.

Same I really wanted the jsk but after this review I'm not going for it anymore.

I have the pink jumperskirt! So I didn’t have the same experience with the collar. But I do agree about the fabric not being breathable. Luckily, it doesn’t usually get too hot where I live, but it’s a shame that such a summery print isn’t suitable for summer!

I am SO regretting not getting the JSK!! The collar is just an abomination 😭

It makes sense that the fit would be a bit larger since it comes with a belt, so you can cinch it tighter if need be. However, that doesn’t excuse the poor quality of the fabric and the construction of the collar. I can overlook that for an inexpensive taobao dress, but with as much as AP costs new, they should be doing better. Especially since they have in the past. *strokes the collar of Wonder Party lovingly*

That dress is so cute. That sucks they didn't use a more breathable fabric and the collar turned out the way it did. At least the print is cute? Lol

I was so shocked when you rubbed the fabric together on the sleeve! :O That sound, gah! :o And the shiney puckering collar :( We're in the middle of winter here in Australia, but even when its really hot in summer or spring warm, that doesn't look comfy or do-able at all :( I was tempted by the jsk but I wasn't sure, something was saying not to do it :o The belt is cute, but I worried if it would peel etc overtime.

Yeah, polyester doesn't breathe at all. I get that polyester doesn't run but the quality can be hit or miss.

SAME I think the collar alone offends me more than even the overall fabric of the dress 😭

This is exactly how I feel about my Neon Star Diner OP, I love love love the design and print but hate the fabric, I think it's the same type even. I lovingly call it my kawaii sweat trap XD I find that that wearing a uniqlo airism shirt underneath does help cool down a bit

@@luiysia yee the design itself is awesome and that's the sole reason why I'm keeping it XD but I refuse to add anything else with that fabric to my wardrobe. I really really liked the Jelly Candy Toys OP cut but not enough to buy it because it's the same fabric type I hate. Fingers crossed that ap will reuse the pattern cut for a nice cotton solid though, they've been killing it this year so far in that category!

Dreamy night cakes and Be My Valentine are very similar to this op. The way you describe this one is the way those other OPs feel. I was sweaaatyy in Dreamy Night Cakes when I was just SITTING at my desk at work. They’re so so cute but the material is just not great at all 😣😅😅

the shape of the collar is a mistake from the sewing pattern. A professional seamstress won't let you go with that.

I love your earrings and bracelet! In a way the dress looks good on you, but it also looks really stiff. I wonder if it was washed if it would get better? It seems like they were trying to counter balance the shiny belt with the shiny collar. It appears that they skipped doing the understiching at the collar and perhaps did not properly design it to match the dress and the seamster was fighting the collar. My bet, from what you said, is that the likely problem is the missing understiching. It seems like AP is trying out new factories and that is why the quality is so different.

Ya know, that really must be it. I understand the need for different manufacturers, especially during the pandemic, but I wish they would have just let us know they need some time instead of putting out low quality experimentations like this 😭

This Kinda made me realise that Taobao isn't as bad as some people want it to be, not saying it's beats old brad dresses. I think all my Taobao dresses aka all my dresses (expect for one indi thats will arrive in a few months) is polyester and none of them is that kind of polyester

I honestly had the same thought. So many out there still poopoo on Taobao pieces, but if AP is putting this kind of quality out, what is there to say really??? 😒

I bought from many Japanese brands (sex pot,Listen Flavor etc) and I found the quality of the items to be a hit or a miss most of the time so I'm not that suprised. But other then that the dress looks really cute, reminds me of Emily Temple Cute.

Yes I thought the same when I saw it! Very Emily Temple Cute. And thats why I was so excited to get it because it was so different to their usual style, but why'd it have to turn out like this 😭

Ah, but the print is soooo cute!! I didn't like it until you put it on. But what the heck is going on with AP?? Normally I personally don't care about fabric choices and I know polyester holds the print better, but just hearing how scratchy the fabric sounds was like, "what is that?! AP is that you?", to me. For the moment, I think I will stick with the Chinese brands I've been getting.

As a viewer of the dress I really don’t mind the shinyness of the collar it doesn’t give off that super shine that some cheep fabrics can give but because I haven’t seen it in person I can’t give a full evaluation on it XP you look super cute in it though! I love how well your hair goes with it! 💕😍💕

OMG I feel you, I got Sweet Cherry Margaret and felt the same way about the collar part (which also had a shiny sort of plastic-y feeling fabric). Otherwise, the dress is OK as it's chiffon but the lining is also that polyester (that makes the weird sound) though not on the sleeves so it's a tad comfier :( It's sad feeling disappointed after receiving a dress, hopefully they get back to their former materials.

NOOO, GIRL - when you rubbed the fabric together I got goosebumps, like nails on a chalk board! I'm so sorry. I didn't know it was getting this bad. I haven't bought a new dress from AP (besides MTOs) since 2017, because I refuse to wear polyester. But this is entirely a new low! I was almost considering trying to get Happy Garland, but I hear it also feels like a table cloth. These prints would have looked SO GOOD in cotton.

This is how I felt about star diner, I got the jsk and the fabric is ehh. I was trying it on and was getting hot from doing so. I don't even get that hot in my fully cotton dresses, they must have asked Satan what he uses to torture his victims and used that

Echoing previous comments here but the poly struggle is real. ;; The construction issues with the collar are so strange too, I'd never expect to see something that sloppy from AP! It really is a shame because the print, the design, *and* the way it fits you are all adorable! I hope you find a fitting time to wear this dress, and if not, I hope you can at least sell it to someone who will enjoy it and get the JSK for yourself instead. My favorite brand is IW and they've been releasing 100% poly dresses for years now, and while they do seem to shift back towards cotton releases recently, those are still partially polyester and are also dramatically more expensive than IW has ever been, so I find myself sticking to older 100% cotton releases... and BTSSB, who still release their iconic old school designs in cotton, some of which have cotton lining too. I don't deny that poly has its advantages, but I have my doubts as to whether they're worth the physical discomfort of wearing it, and the inevitable damage to the environment.

Right?? From the beginning of my Lolita journey I always held AP in the highest regard for the design and quality, so this really breaks my heart 😔 I need to expand the selection of Baby pieces in my closet it seems, LOVE their old school cotton dresses!!

Nooooo why is the quality so bad?! Ah well, more money to set aside for second hand AP and taobao goods!

What are they thinking continuing to use this fabric?! I'm no fashion designer, but I wouldn't even use this fabric for cosplay 😂

This is cute and I get picnic w/ an actual picnic basket vibe out in the country on a nice day but it doesn't really feel like lolita. To you, I'm sure it feels like a steam bag. Lol, girl you look so uncomfortable in it. Polyester has taken over and it's getting harder to find natural fibers in all areas of life. At least it's cute. Also, question for you. You might not have this issue because you're bigger than me up top but have you ever gotten a dress that was too big in the torso? If so, how did you get around that issue? I keep seeing dresses I like but they're all in the 80-90cm bust range. >.

I LOVE the vibe of the dress and it also gives me a cute retro/country feel! I liked it because it was so different compared to my other Lolita dresses, but the fabric choices really just flopped it overall 😔 Between you and me, I'm just wearing a really padded bra in this video 😂 Its the only way I've found to get dresses like this to not look like a loose trash bag over my chest! I'm not talking anything crazy from Victorias Secret, its just a sports bra with some thicker swim suit like padded cups in it. It helps smooth out the silhouette and take up some room in the bodice without looking weird or ill fitting, give it a try!

Hmm thats a good question! I guess it would all depend on the persons silhouette preferences. Some might prefer to wear it with an underskirt to make it a bit longer, while others might enjoy showing off more of their legwear since it might sit higher on them than a shorter person. My only concern is that people who are taller often have longer arms as well, so I fear the sleeves might be a bit short. Again thats something that would likely need to be discovered on a person to person basis, but you could also use some cute wrist cuffs to elongate the sleeves as well! I hope that helps 😊

weird that the solid color jsk (twinkle muse) i got from them earlier this year is chiffon and im happy with the quality but the prints, the ICONIC LEGENDARY AP PRINTS, are getting the costume shop treatment??? i mean i'll give benefit of the doubt that the global panini could have had an impact on manufacturing (mayhap the rise of the cottagecore wave has also made natural fibers more scarce/expensive to use? idk im not wise in these matters just theorizing), but its a shame to see such a cute print and overall cut done dirty. either way though, your coorded it beautifully! the earrings are perfect

no prob! and yeah i've seen a few disgruntled reports as well with AP's quality as of late, it breaks my heart too--ive only just started delving into brand and i've always been starstruck by AP's designs. thank gods for secondhand but i hope they listen to the feedback and step things back up ;w; CMON AP PLEASEEE

That collar is so weird, there's the issue of how it's put together, and then the fact that's it's shiny? Like I don't think a shiny collar would look out of place on another dress, it'd be cute with say, a star/cosmic print. But with cherries? While the rest of it is matte colors? (Save for the belt but then the materials and colors are also different) Just some strange design choices imo. It does look adorable on you though, so it does have some redeeming qualities. 😊

That dress looks like it was made out of cheap poplin. It's crap like this that made me stop buying brand period. Taobao, indie and handmade is the way to go now.

The dress print looks really cute and the colours with your hair look really pretty, but that fabric.... such a shame. The last 'modern' AP dress I bought was in 2018 and I remember the polyester fabric didn't breathe at all and felt like a trash bag on my skin! It's a shame they only seem to have gone more downhill since, that collar finishing is really something. AP is really becoming the Barbie of lolita.

It really breaks my heart 😔 AP has been my favorite brand since I started wearing Lolita, and their designs are a big reason why I got into the fashion in the first place. I really hope they can make some changes and get back to their roots 😭🙏
