I was a toddler when it happened so I don't have memories of it, but the day of the assassinations came about a week and a half after San Franciscans got news of the Jonestown massacre. Many of those who died at Jonestown were from SF and the greater Bay Area. There were already devastating shockwaves of grief running through the community when this happened. San Franciscans were truly shook. I have many opinions of Diane Feinstein, but I'm impressed at how she handled herself at that press conference.

Historically, was progress made for acceptance of homosexuality, over any duration of time? I'm not sure how to phrase that, to research it as a inquiry, anywhere.

I'm not sure if I understood your question correctly, but I think LGBTQ+ rights have advanced when compared to the 70s (when Milk was elected).
