I was fascinated as.we raise bees differently in Australia. It's great to see the different methods.

Wonderful to watch. I'm a new beekeeper in the American midwest, Central Illinois, beginning this year with one of those new Australian Flow Hives which I'm loving but it's sparked an interest in how other traditions maintain their hives and harvest their honey. This looks like a lot of fun; deliciously messy, and kind to the bees. I love the simplicity of the design too. Looking forward to finding out more. Cheers.

Yes,bees build their combs as high as the total height of all boxes. I get honey from separated honey compartment and I set empty box to the bottom.

How gorgeous those combs are!

Japanese honeybee's Honeycomb is too soft,so it is not able to withstand centrifugation. In addition, because the ability to collect the honey is also low, the harvest of honey once a year, the shape of the hive is best. However,I'd like to try other shape of hive :)

I wonder what kind of flowers pollinated that delicious looking honey? I wish I had a taste of that!

I just let them swarm and catch them afterwards. This pile box type is for Apis Ceranae. They stock less honey than Apis Mellifera,so we can harvest honey once a year. I don't know about standard measures,but 250mm × 250mm × 150mm for one box is the best size from my experience. If you interested in this hive,please watch my video. You can see how in the hive. :)

Костяны4 все верно ! но мне было бы так удобно снял этаж покушать.ну а если у тебя много уликов то я бы делал как нить по другому.

Thanks for the info! I might try this way one day. I read a book about Warre-hives, and there the basic principle is same, except that they use top-bars at the top of each box. But I think that feature is mainly an artefact resulting from a law in certain countries which allows only "easily observable frame-hives" (so that the inspectors can quickly detect foul-brood, etc.). So Warre-hives are still considered having "frames".

This called "Pile box type" in Japan. Traditional way of beekeeping :)

The Bees are not European bees, They are native bees to Japan. I use a hive similar to this one.

Yup, natural honey is thicker, darker and sweeter. You'll find a lot of honey these days is watered down ;^)

Very unusual technology of beekeeping! We in Russia produce honey differently. Question: how do you share a nest and a honey part? So that the bees' eggs do not get into honey?

If u tie two small pieces of wood to the end of that wire u used to cut it would be much easier(something to hold onto so the wire does not cut into your hand). Nice vid!

Когда у человека по 200 улей заебется пока все выкачает. С сотами с проволкой проще. И какая нафиг естесственная среда. Их не для комфорта содержают, а для добычи меда.

any particular idea on the type of flowers the bees harvest from and does Japanese honey have any distinct Aroma or taste that may separate it from other varieties....from the look of it and it instantly reminds me of our local Samar honey in color and viscosity

Neat & pretty smart way to handle the honey bees.Even,I was surprised to see,you don`t use the Smog dispenser,we usually use in America,to calm down the bees.But I wonder,why do you use such a big glass containers,for storing the honey??.Why don`t you better use quiet smaller size glasses??.Well,I mean,because honey usually solidify on winter time,or at low temperatures also.

Thank you for watching! We don't use smog, because Japanese honey bees are not aggressive. They rarely sting people. I didn't have small glass containers,that's why I use big one :)

+SakamotoRyouta you dont have to use centrifuge! Why not cut off capping and allow honey to drip, whilst still benefiting from a frame. It takes longer, but a frame is more practical, and can be reused.

If they want to do the traditional way, its fine. They seem to be doing well enough, unless you are gonna preach why your religion is the right method as well.

по периметру верхнего торца, каждого корпуса, сними рубанком фаску 3 мм. удобней будет режущую струну заводить и дождевая вода затекать не будет.

Yes, I realized that it cannot be Warré hive, because there are no top-bars there. But the technique of stacking up and later separating the honey compartment with a metal wire is similar. Are there any intermediate horizontal dividers, or will bees build their combs as high as the total height of all boxes? Also, do you add new empty boxes (when the colony is still growing) to the bottom or to the top?
