Awesome place, I've never seen so many morels. We had a wildfire this year, but it was in a national park where harvesting is not allowed anyway. However, maybe I'll check the spot in spring at least to see if there are any to take pictures of.

Enjoying these videos , surprised there was that many growing on the hard burn up top where Phil started ...I think it would be nice to be the older guy and let the younger pack the weight out eh Randy...lol ..I know you can still do it ..be skimpy next year..hopefully get bombarded with Matsu...thanks for sharing these adventures

heh Ger, It was a surprise to me to find them on such a steep, rocky, hard burn. I try to make up for my shortcomings in other ways. We are due for a bumper matsi crop eh?

Randy carried the pack for many years, you should see the state of his packboard. I'm just paying it forward. Happy to share and thanks for watching.

Definitely want to use your GPS on your phone for a waypoint to come back to to hit the ones you left behind that were too small

We were actually camped only a few hundred meters from that patch. Had it all marked/tracked on my garmin handheld - got what we could before other pickers found it. Wish that spot had more time to grow before it was discovered other harvesters!

you said " almost all are naturals". Whats that mean?

By naturals we mean species that aren't exclusive to burn areas. They can also be found in green/unburnt forests. Some species are only found in burn areas and they flush following the naturals. Morchella tomentosa and Morchella exuberans are some examples. They are often more durable/heavier and last longer when dried.
