I'm very happy for your wonderful results of your labors! God is good, indeed! A few tips I've picked up along my journeys in the harvest, to prolong storage: wipe each squash with vinegar/water solution and don't stack unless fully cured (those that are not dried crisp stems), cure and store onions away from potatoes, and dry potatoes single layer if possible. The skins need to toughen up for storage. PS Green tomato Salsa verde is the best in my humble opinion. I do prefer it to traditional salsa. I use it more too. Rachel @ 1870's homestead has two canning recipes on the tube. I made the Roasted this year. I actually went begging friends/neighbors for more green tomatoes. God bless you all!

Try making a green tomato apple filling its sooooo good. I make a cookie sheet pan crust fill it with the tom/apple mixture then put pie crust on top. Brush crust with milk sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and no one knows half is tomatoes….goes further then a pie…and so yummy with vanilla ice cream….

Looks wonderful Folks!!! Digging potatoes using your hands is so nice I find as well - I dig mine and leave in the row for 3 -4 hours, then pick them and put in the potato bin. I used to plant my tomatoes the way you did this year and I found the same as you - a lot of "hidden" ones and they never really dried so the fruit rotted. Just my experience. I find that a row of paige wire between t-posts works well - I simply tie up with string if needed....but for most part, it is not needed. I don't prune so they go wild and choke out weeds for most part. Mine has been in place for 2 years now and next year going to set up a new one and plant beans and peas on the existing one. Cute story on Tomatillo. Great harvest video!!!

I have been trying to learn to garden over the past year, and although I haven’t had MUCH success, the little bit of progress I made has made me feel much more hopeful and encouraged to keep trying! I’ve been loving videos just like this one to keep the motivation up as well. My little one is only 2, and I’ve never had her in the garden with me yet, but I bet even she could help pick tomatoes or dig up potatoes like it’s a game 😉 it’ll be a bunch of family fun!

What a bountiful harvest! Your butternut squash did fantastic. I had a decent harvest of spaghetti squash but not as good as last year’s harvest. Your potatoes look like they did very well too! My potato harvest was okay for the amount of seed potatoes that I started with and the drought conditions this year. I’ve never liked leaving the tomatoes to grow on the ground because of the amount of big and small critter damage to them. But in your case nothing goes to waste since you are feeding the damaged tomatoes to the chickens.

There are a lot of nutrients in the greens and not perfect produce…..unless the chickens “need” the scraps, I would consider tilling all of the plants back into the soil so that it fortifies the ground for next growing season.

Yes, they (onion tops) are good young and fresh. We have also used the tops of garlic which is called a scape and they are good as well.

What a wonderful food harvest! I would love to know how did you keep the squash bugs from destroying your butternut squash? I almost lost all of mine because of them.
