Haruna Ishola - Adisa Alago Side A | Apala Evergreen Music

Haruna Ishola Bello, M.O.N. (Member of the Order of the Niger), who lived 1919-1983, was one of the most popular Nigerian Apala musician.
Years before Nigerian independence in 1960, Apala music was developed when amateur musicians would play to wake the people during Ramadan.
Apala is a deeply rhythmical, hypnotic, and powerful musical style that combines the striking nasal-style vocals and traditions of Islamic music, the Agidigbo (thumb piano), and the equally powerful drumming and percussion rhythms and techniques of the Yorùbá people.

Chief Amuda Obelawo Lawal was and is still a remarkable presence, afobaje Ejigbo. I met and socialized with him in the early 70s Bodija Estate. I know he is still alive having seen him engaging in a chit chat with Rauf Aregbesola ex Governor Osun State a few months ago. Baba Obelawo is an unforgettable and charismatic person.

That's awesome. If we can find a contact to him, we wouldn't mind to hold an interview session with him. Any help?

@@aifmedia I will talk to family back home and see if they can find him in Oshogbo. Mere words cannot describe him and his immense wealth even then in the 60s, 70s Nigeria. You can listen to the album done for Oba Adeyemi Alaafin of Oyo when Sunny Ade was crowned in Ibadan in the early 70s. And see all the alaiyes lol he attended that party with. Oba Oyebade Lipede(God rest his soul)- who I also met then- was one of them.
