CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Lt. Hart (Colin Farrell) comes across an unusual checkpoint.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on the novel by John Katzenbach, author of Just Cause (1995), this prison camp drama combines elements of A Soldier's Story (1984) and the classic Stalag 17 (1953). Colin Farrell stars as Lt. Tommy Hart, a second-year Harvard Law School student who enlists to fight in World War II but ends up being taken prisoner by the Germans. When a murder at the Nazi-run Stalag Luft 13 leaves a black Tuskegee airman named Lt. Lincoln Scott (Terrence Dashon Howard) accused of the crime, high-ranking prisoner (and fourth-generation war hero) Col. William McNamara (Bruce Willis) persuades camp commandant Col. Werner Visser (Marcel Iures) to allow the prisoners to hold their own trial. Hart is recruited to defend his fellow officer, but as he reluctantly investigates, he discovers that not all of his fellow allied soldiers are fighting the same war and that his "client" may well have been framed. In the meantime, it becomes apparent that McNamara is using events to mask his true intent, a mission to destroy a nearby munitions plant that he still intends to carry out despite his incarceration. Hart's War (2002) co-stars Vicellous Shannon, Cole Hauser, Rory Cochrane, and Jonathan Brandis.

The US Army later made all checkpoint soldiers black soldiers rendering Germany unable to impersonate American guards.
Even the german with the Map was totally caught off guard when his buddy shot the guy in the head
I like how the Captain just knows immediately.
Go figure a LT getting lost in the woods lol

I heard some old Veteran say , At that moment in the war. If you saw a Black guy at a checkpoint , you wanted to get out of your vehicle and hug him.
As soon as his partner recognized the German gun, he should've been like "Yeah, he's right. It's the other way, let's go!" He would've caught on that something was amiss and would've listened to him and gone back.
I especially like the quick view of the woods where the movement is detected by our eyes but still indistinguishable.
All of you need to remember that if you're at a suspicious checkpoint, just offer beer and bratwurst. You'll be fine.
At first I thought the dudes in the jeep were the bad guys.
What if the driver suddenly speaks in German fluently when LT was shot "Sie haben gerade einen SS-Offizier erschossen. Wir sind genau wie du!" ( You just shot a SS officer. We are just like you!)
During the Battle of the Bulge, the Germans had taken American uniforms, equipment and some vehicles, and tried to infiltrate American lines to cause sabotage and ambush American forces. It wasn't very successful at causing any damage because German tanks didn't look much like American tanks, even in green paint with white stars. However, it did cause a lot of confusion and anxiety among American troops. Security was tightened at checkpoints by asking questions only Americans would know (at least in theory), like "What baseball league are the Chicago Cubs part of?" or "What's the capital of Illinois?" This lead to some tragic incidents of friendly fire, but also some funny incidents. American brigadier general Bruce Clarke was held at gunpoint when he incorrectly said the Chicago Cubs were part of the American League (they are part of the National League).
My college professor at the end of our semester invited his own college professor who was an 86 year old ww2 vet to speak to us as a guest speaker. He told us many stories and including one similar to this. He and one of his buddies were checkpoint guards before a bridge crossing and he said German soldiers dressed as American soldiers drove up and tried to sneak by them but he stopped them and asked them where they were headed. He said what gave them away was that no one used the chin strap on the helmet nor did the soldiers in the battalion use the top button on their uniform blouse and that they both said the word “Yeah” differently
Never seen this movie, but everything about this scene from the direction to the acting to the special fx is a beauty
if I were that captain I'd agreed with the German spies and turned around alerting my command asap.
Someone on the American side started using black GIs at the various crossroads and bridges to deal with this, or so I heard once.
So they were so tempted by the box in the back of the jeep, that they just left him (alive and conscious) behind a steering wheel?
There hitting every part of that jeep exept for that guy

Just ask them who had the most home runs in 1936.
