For any non-Brits, from a Brit! Our 'stereotypical British or English accent' is RP - Received Pronunciation (more commonly known as The Queen's English/ BBC pronunciation / Oxford English)... a lot of us who grew up in the South of England, around the home counties (cities surrounding London) eg: Kent & Berkshire, or like myself in Surrey, were educated to pronounce English with RP or at least very close to it! In honesty, I think the rest of the UK consider us to have a 'neutral' accent, as realistically 90% of Brits speak English with a different accent!! Since Harry grew-up in the North of England (Cheshire) he therefore has a NORTHERN accent! Which honestly is often considered to be a warm, friendly accent, much like a lovely Yorkshire accent -which is also another Northern accent!) With the amount of global travel Harry's done over the last decade as well as living in the states, it's pretty clear his lovely warm, Northern accent has become more 'neutral' over the years. Most likely so that non-natives (or, also other countries who have English as their main language who also often struggle with UK's heavily varying accents), can understand him a little easier. Plus, it's of course clear to hear based on this video that Harry's enunciation & diction has changed too which would of course be for media, communication & public speaking purposes! Hope this gives a little more insight for anyone who's not a Brit & was interested!!! 😀 PS: these accent explanations are of course very stereotypical I know!! Obviously based solely on where we've grown up & local home town influence etc sooo of course no offence or ill-intention intended at all to any of my UK peeps if reading this and I'm obviously aware we're a hugely diverse country culture, community & resident wise etc which I love and enjoy, especially being in Greater London/Surrey (zone 6) 😊

@@anna-5104 Or his voice just matured as he went through puberty??? He was like 16 in 2010 and is now like 27. Cleary he has matured physically, it makes sense that his voice has too. That's a way more likely explanation then vocal strain
@alb.3818
2 жыл бұрын
@@anna-5104 Not to say that that's not a possible explanation, but man's voice can certainly deepen and mature still during that age range. For the other singers you mentioned, they were all females, so their voices mature earlier and sooner than guys so that's a bit of an unfair comparison
@anna-5104
2 жыл бұрын
@@alb.3818 Many factors influence the voice and you know yourself that when you have a cold or have talked or sang too much your voice is suddenly raspy and deeper than usual. I was just suggesting something that could be partially a reason and isn't depended on one gender. When you start being a popular singer at 16 and you are so young that you don't have the ability to control your voice like an opera singer can, you can influence your voice negatively in the long run, if you don't have preventive techniques. You are right, I only mentioned female singers, because those have the most extreme and unfitting voice changes to get people to understand my point. Afterall a deep raspy voice fits a man, but a deep raspy voice doesn't really fit a woman. But between the female singers by far not all are that extremely affected. Tailor Swift started young, but her voice is still fine, maybe she's used proper singing techniques, but Miley Cyrus' voice is demaged quite a lot from singing and smoking that she even had to undergo surgery on the voice chords. Elton John has a stable and soothing voice, but Justin Bieber's is raspier than would be "normal" and Harry Styles' is deeper than "normal", but since they are men, people like you would say: it's just puberty, they are men now! I just don't think Harry Styles' speaking voice wasn't influenced by his long singing career. That's all I was trying to convey and my point is supposed to be gender-neutral, because there are so many factors that come into play that it's silly to differentiate between gender, because that wouldn't be enough and wouldn't capture the nuances. Everyone's voice is affected by everything we breath in, eat and do to it independently from puberty. Even air polution causes voice changes. The list goes on and on.

@alb.3818
2 жыл бұрын
@@anna-5104 Not to say that that's not a possible explanation, but man's voice can certainly deepen and mature still during that age range. For the other singers you mentioned, they were all females, so their voices mature earlier and sooner than guys so that's a bit of an unfair comparison
@anna-5104
The list goes on and on.

i'm surprised at the amount of comments that say he still sounds only british or like he has a london accent. to me, he sounds more american at the end- only having a very subtle english 'twang', mainly where he doesn't add a conclusive(?) sound to certain words (like when he said voted in the 2021 clip). i wonder if it depends on who's listening though- like if an american thinks he sounds very english or a british person thinks he sounds super american. i'm fairly certain those saying he sounds like he's from london though- aren't actually english :'')
