I think the first one or this one is more of a introduction to the main character's more than anything. They do get a lot more darker as the films go along I think I know why most love the third one but I'm not going to spoil your enjoyment of watching them. These always get played at Christmas on the TV in the UK. There's more brilliant actors and actresses that you see as you go along. It's like the who's who of British actor's and actresses. I do love some of the lines in these films there very quotable. It looks like you enjoyed this and hope that you continue down the hp films. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

harry potter is not just for kids its for all ages i hate that they changed the title from harry potter and the philosopher's stone to harry potter and the sorcerer's stone just to suit american readers and some words was changed in it too the 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th films are the best i dont like the 5th 6th 7th and 8th

Yeeeees, same feeling. Harry Potter was the first book I read (besides those 10 pages kid's books ) and was the one that showed me the books world and nowadays I'm writing my first book. It kinda marked my life

I'm 61 years old and I still love it. It gets more and more dark and scary as they get older.

In the first movie, Harry is supposed to be 11 and the actor playing him is actually 12. At the end of the series Harry is 18 and the actor is 22 - so they managed to stay fairly close.

Filming began in September of 2000 (thereabouts) Daniel was 11 Emma was 10 and Rupert was 12.

​@@AHufflepuffAndASwiftie I was just writing to correct you, but I realised you are correct - book 1 he was 11, each book is a year later - my mistake was thinking, 7 books, so 11 plus 7 is 18 ... oops, forgot that book 1 is 11, then 6 more books after that so, yes, 17. My main point though had been that they tried to make a movie a year, which would have fit the books [until the 7th book since that got split into 2 movies so the final movie kind of messes with it] but they came fairly close to the actors aging correctly for the books with Radcliffe starting off a year older than the character, and then by the time the 7th movie [start of the 7th book came along] he was 19 - so 2 years older than the character, though he was 20 by the time they finished - so 3 years. Still, not bad at matching actor and character in age over a series. Obviously, since the 8th movie is the second part of the 7th book, that throws it off a bit more - but hey, going throw everything that happened in book 7 would surely age anyone more quickly than normal 🐒

Technically, Harry was still 17 by the time things concluded. Remember he's one of the youngest in the school year, being born at the end of July. Ron and Hermione were 18.

Muggles in the comments butthurt.

In the book, Ron didn't panic, Hermione did, because even though she knew what plant it was and how to stop it, she forgot that she can make light what is actually understandable as she comes from muggle parents (muggle means no wizard) while Ron's entire family are wizards and remind her that.

Definitely watch them all, the kids grow up and so do the movies with a bit more to offer. I remember stopping at 2 thinking that these movies really are for kids but later on in my 20s I rewatched and literally binged them. I would probably say my favorite is half blood prince. Can't wait to see the rest of the reactions, grab snacks and enjoy!!!

By the time you reach the final two movies, it gets REAL dark, Michelle and Natalie!

I was in my 40s when the books and this movie first came out, and figured they would only appeal to kids and teenagers. I had a co-worker who told me that she read the books to her children, and she really enjoyed them, so that piqued my interest. A few years after the final movie was released, they started appearing on a cable network. I decided to watch this one, then the second, and at that point, I decided to buy the box set of DVDs, so that I wouldn't have to deal with commercials. By the time I finished watching the final movie, I had ordered a boxed set of the books. Not long after finishing the books, a very pretty snowshoe siamese kitten came into my life, and I simply had to name her Hermione.

I am in my 60's and the Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite book of the series. I Love the movies, but I Love the Books so much more.

The books are certainly better, but thanks to Rowling’s involvement, the movies were pretty well made. Oftentimes, when authors aren’t involved in the movie adaptations, it’s often worse.

Ok what Ron did in the first movie winning that chess game was briliant and epic. He's smart, brave, loyal and good-hearted! I love him!

they used triplets to play baby Harry, so they actually were the same size. Harry is about 15 months old when his parents died and he is taken to the Dursleys. The first couple of movies are easing you into the universe/story and therefore are a little more directed at kids, (keep in mind our main characters are 11 in the first movie and 12 in the second, so it makes sense for that reason too) but they also provide a lot of information that is important for the rest of the series. The story does age with the characters and gets significantly darker, more mature and complex.

The girl's name is Hermione, technically pronounced like her-MY-o-nee, but the middle syllables are sometimes contracted so it sounds closer to her-MAH-nee.

The series must be seen as one continuous story. There are important connections between seemingly trivial events in this one and very pivotal points through the last movie. As others have said, the stories get progressively darker and more mature as the characters grow up and things happen. Maybe it's obvious already, but each book is one year at school. They all start around Harry's birthday, which is 31 July, and end with the end of the school year. There are a lot of important points from the books that the movies omit, such as why it is necessary for Harry to stay with his awful relatives, the Dursleys. For your own sakes, do what you can to avoid spoilers.

I should also add that you shouldn't put too much thought into trying to figure anything out from the titles of the movies. They refer to important things in the stories, but usually there are no clues before the particular story to guide you, and the references they make are always explained, eventually.

Enjoyed the movies but they have to skip over so much for time. Definitely go back and listen to the audiobooks for more context.

You're the first I've seen to point out the plothole of harry being a toddler in the flashbacks but just a baby in the opening scene, it's always been hilarious to me

Glad you guys are watching these. They are worth the hype and yes, they will get better. For me the 3rd one is the best. Binge em’. The Books are way better btw but they do a decent job keeping with them.

The 3rd movie, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, has always been my favorite. It should be noted that Nicholas Flamel is the only real life, historical person mentioned in the Harry Potter stories. He lived during the Middle Ages and his house still stands in Paris. It is now a restaurant and with the popularity of the books and movies, they have created a Harry Potter menu for children. I had lunch there with an old friend on my last trip to Paris.

As a librarian and former teacher, I loved the Harry Potter series. A generation of kids - including kids who didn’t like to read- wanted to read, and were excited when each new book was released. Bookstores had midnight book release parties. The author wisely built the complexity and darkness to suit the age of the characters and the readers. The first book is quite slim, and the final one is much longer and darker. I didn’t start reading them until the 5th book was out. As others have said, the adult cast of the HP series is a veritable who’s who of British actors.

I watch reactors react to Harry Potter for the first time because I can’t. So this is the next best thing. Glad I can be a part of this journey!

One piece of advice. Turn on the subtitles so you can see the dialog. Harry Potter is a complex & detailed story with lots of Latin, strange words & unique names. A small detail in one book/movie can become an important plot point in another. It’s necessary to follow the story & remember small things mentioned or shown in passing. That’s easier to do with the subtitles turned on, especially when speaking over dialogue for your reactions. The Harry Potter books were designed to age & grow with the audience. In the first book/movie the Trio are 11 years old. In the second they are 12. In the third they are 13… so forth & so on until the last, Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows, where they are 17/18. So the first two books/movies are designed to appeal to tweens, books 3,4 & 5 to early & mid teens & the last are very much adult themed. They get darker & much more mature as they go along. Harry must live with his maternal aunt for his own protection. As Dumbledore mentioned, Harry’s mother, Lily, sacrificed her own life to save him & that protection lives on in Harry. Dumbledore used that to cast a strong protective enchantment on Harry & that enchantment requires that Harry live with a blood relative of his mother’s - her older sister Petunia. It’s the blood connection between Petunia, Lily & Harry that gives the enchantment it’s power. As Dumbledore tells Harry, “As long as you can call home the place where your mother’s blood dwells, there you cannot be harmed”. Harry only needs to spend a few weeks a year in his aunt’s house to keep the enchantment in place so he has to go back there every summer for a couple of weeks. His Aunt Petunia knows about the enchantment (it was explained in the letter left with baby Harry) & that’s why she took him. As jealous as Petunia was of her sister, she still accepted Lily’s son into her home in order to protect his life. I’m a big Potter fan & look forward to watching your reactions to this wonderful series.

First off, I can totally imagine getting into a series like this as an adult can be a completely different experience than what I had, growing up reading the books, waiting for a year between movies, and all that. But with an open mind (and some patience till you get to movie 3 😂), I can't imagine you won't be swept into the magical world of Harry!

The series gets more grown up and darker as it goes. The third movie is where it really changes gears.

It's true, there is a lot of world building in the first one, and second one too. It's just a lot because it's a whole new world and new rules. BUT. The story is so much deeper than you would ever believe. The movies get darker as they get older. The precedent happens on movie 3 (Prisoner of Azkaban). If this felt anti-climactic, it's for a reason. Please watch them all!

The Prisoner of Askaban is definatly a fav. [3]. A LOT comes to " Dance with the Devil in the pale Moonlight..."

I was three when the first book was released and my aunt introduced me to the series when I was older. The first one was the only one I didn’t see in theaters.

great reaction! As you watch the movies, especially from 3-4 on, things get more dark as the kids grow up and things get serious. This story is an epic that covers more than a couple years, and it will definitely suck you in as you go!

I saw the first couple movies and got hooked. I bought the books and started reading them but the last couple hadn't come out yet. It was torture waiting for them to come out to complete the story.... They did very well with the movies but the books have a lot more details for the story line. The movies/books get darker as they proceed... I remember the author said in an interview that she was trying to make the story/characters grow up with the readers. The books came out over a 10 year period so a 10 yr old starting the series would have been 20 yrs old when the final book came out.

I was 13 when the final book came to the shelves.

Being rather old, i first saw the Potter movies as a middleaged guy, and loves them. Like in all big series, the first one is the least interesting, because a lot of time goes with introducing the characters, but they get better and better along the way, and the 3-4 last ones are nor for kids, or squeamish adults🙂

I am reading the books, and something that really helps is to imagine that the movies were written in chapters, like a serie, so that explain why the pace of the movies seem to slow down and then go fast again xD,

23:29 Yeah, sadly the director loved his head-canon version of Hermione so much, he moved most clever and skillful and quick-thinking lines/actions from Ron and Harry and gave them to Hermione, to make her seem the protagonist of the story Hermione in the books is the most book smart young Wizard, but lacks in common sense and freezes up when she has to think fast. Not only that, she is supposed to below average looking, extremely awkward and constantly bullied These are supposed to be main points of her arc, but she doesn't have any in the movies, they made her so boring in the movies compared to books. This is the polar opposite of Harry, he isn't book smart and not that smart to begin with, but he has a heart of gold and when s**t hits the fan, he shifts to a new gear and dives in fearless. Ron surprisingly enough is the smartest of the three, but hates studying and has a massive problem with lack of self-confidence and an inferiority complex for being dirt poor and has to scrape by with outdated and barely working several generation old hand-me-downs. Man, I really hate how these movies make Ron seem like a bigoted comedic relief, instead of how well he is written in the books. Also, Ron is supposed to be really tall and lanky Even the author was apalled with the massive changes to the three main characters

The third movie is my personal favourite, and it's darker than the first two movies!

Also, they are 8 movies; 7 books, but 8 movies. They split the last book into 2 movies. Also, in the books, Harry was supposed to be around 1 & 1/2 when his parents dies, so yeah, like a toddler. They also died on Halloween & for reference, Harry was born on July 31st, 1980. So, he had already turned 1 when they died. The died on October 31st, 1981. So, when the story actually starts, Harry is about to turn 11 on July 31st, 1991. Dudley, his cousin, is only like a month older than Harry; his birthday is in June & in the books, one of many birthday presents is a new T.V. & a new VCR. That's how you know it takes place in the 90's--among other things. 😉 And also, it DOES get darker as Harry gets older & as the movies/books progress. And the World Building also continues to progress as the movie/books go on.

They pretty much did Ron dirty in the films. He was supposed to be the tactical thinker, the one with street smarts. He is the one who dealt with pressure better than the others which was why he had some sharp wit.

By the third movie you'll start saying "This is for KIDS?" lol Also, they did Ron dirty in the movies, he as so helpful, funny, and smarter in the books.

Books > movies but the movies had an amazing cast, sets, music, etc so it's not as rage-inducing as adaptations usually are. So glad you enjoyed it! I was given the first two books when I was 12, devoured them, and asked to go get the rest only to learn that I had to wait as the 2nd had only just come out. They definitely get more grown up as time goes on but this one is a charming introduction to the world for sure! Hope you continue with the series!

No, no, the mountain troll doesn't live in the castle, it was let in by Quirrel as a distraction. It wasn't supposed to be there. Fluffy the dog was kept there by Hagrid to protect the Stone.

Prefer books to the movies but I love & enjoy both. I work as a nanny so over the years I’ve read the books & watched the movies countless times with my young charges. I’ve also read the books on my own. I was in my early 30’s when the first book was released but I didn’t start reading the books until late 2001, right before the first movie came out. My godson had all of the books that had been released at that point & really wanted to go see the movie. I told him I would take him if I could borrow his HP books so I would have an idea what it was all about. I read the books in two weeks, gave them back to my godson & then went out & bought my own copies. My godson & I went to see the first movie together & I was truly hooked on the story of Harry Potter. As a nanny I’ve read the books with the children in my care dozens of times. After we finished each book we watch the movie. I’ve helped with school projects involving Harry Potter including a 8th grade term project on the wand lore in the books & a high school senior project on the politics in the Harry Potter series & how they compare with history & the politics of today. The story of Harry Potter is timeless, extraordinary, inspiring & magical in every sense of the word.

George R.R. Martin and J.K. Rowling both got a ton of their inspiration from J.R.R. Tolkien.

The first two films are kiddie films but after that they get darker and darker … and better and better!

In the book, Ron is much more useful and competent. And Hermione is not such a Mary Sue. Hermione's parents are muggles, so both she and Harry were raised in the muggle world. Ron is the only one of the three that knows the ins and outs of wizarding society. Ron already knows about quidditch and all the cultural aspects of being a wizard. While Hermione only knows what she's been able to read in books. Yes, she's very smart and studious, and a well-disciplined learner. She and Harry are only children, and have only just entered the wizarding world, whereas Ron's been in it his whole life, and has five older brothers, two of which have already graduated from Hogwarts.

Oh, you will grow to love these movies. The first two are geared more towards children. But after that all bets are off. As these movies get darker and darker. I’m a 57 yr. Old man, and these movies are absolutely brilliant! A lot of people say the Order of the Phoenix is their favorite. But I like The Half-Blood Prince!

I grew up watching these in the theater, so this one always has a special place in my heart! Agreed that this is more focused on the world building

I just smacked my forehead. There are 8 movies in this series and they get progressively darker as they were filmed over a 10 year period. Figure it out the kids were 9-10 years old at the beginning and 20 at the end. This one and the next one are the only two light hearted ones. I am 78 and watched them all for the first time this year. I now own all 8 films along with the books that I am now rereading for the third time. With the exception of the Goblet of Fire, they were all exceptionally well made films and had a number of the greatest British actors and actresses of their day. I got bored with Stars Wars after the first one so I guess there's no accounting for taste, watch a couple more before you dismiss them as "kids movies".

The twins Fred and George are brothers to Ron. Also Harry's father was not a Seeker, he was a chaser that's what JK Rowling stated on Pottermore which is now known as Wizarding world. Please keep in mind that in the books Ron Weasley is actually a lot braver, and the devil's snare he didn't freak out it was Hermione who actually freaked out and it was Ron who reminded her that she's a witch and she doesn't need wood to start a fire. The reason why though they change the scene around is they did remove a scene of Hermione down in that dungeon where she had to solve which potion that she could drink and that Harry could drink to move forward and also backwards without drinking the wrong potion that would cost them their life. So that showed how smart and intelligent she was unfortunately that was cut out of the movie

Ron did so much more in the books. Most of his brilliance was given to Hermione in the movies, demoting Ron to a comic relief. Ron has lived in the Wizarding World his whole life. He has a lot of streetsmarts when it comes to magic and magical things. Hermione has her booksmarts and logic thinking and Harry has his natural talent to stand up to adversity.

They did rone dirty in this movie, he came up with things in the book that in this movie hermoine got all credit for

By the time this movie came out, JK Rowling had plotted out the rest of the books. She told Alan Rickman - and ONLY him - what she had planned for Snape. He had the delicate task of playing the role with Snape's future in mind, but without giving anything away to his fellow actors or to the audience. The entrance to the chessboard room was filmed several months before the game itself. In the meantime, Rupert Grint (Ron) experienced a growth spurt. The director had him ride the knight chess piece in order the minimize the height difference between him and the other two. Harry was not a toddler in the pictures with his parents. Baby Harry was played by the Saunders Triplets. Hermione = her - MY - oh - nee 'Sorcerer's Stone' introduces us the wizarding world, serving as the foundation for the rest. Stick with the series. The books and movies get darker as the series progresses.

You will notice that these films will get better and better, but also darker and darker. My favorite is probably number 6.. HP and The Half Blood Prince.

The movies get more sophisticated and MUCH darker as they go along. Each movie is a year at Hogwarts. The production gets better too. The first is as you say a lot of introduction and world building. The books had of course MUCH more in them; the fifth book was approaching 1000 pages so the movies, especially after the first three diverge a bit and leave a lot out. So I made sure to read each book before I saw the movie. I still have all my books, most of which were bought the day they were released (there were big events all over the country on release day, with parties at midnight, it was a thing!) The first book was really gauged for the 11 year old; when it became evident the series would continue Rowling allowed them to mature along with the three protagonists. If I had only one, I'd choose the books but I am a book kind of guy. I had to wait years for some of them to be released but it was always worth it. Do indeed watch the rest of the series, it's um "Cracking good!!" Yes. It gets even better, many plot twists and fun times to be had and much evil to overcome.

@@pete6099 Really? Wow but why I just now seeing reports about it? There were a few recent news articles that were posted past months or so saying that he passed away but of course I could've gotten the date wrong and the news probably some kind of auto circulation in order to gain viewers and such [sighs].

Fair warning. In the third movie, you’ll likely notice that Dumbledore looks different, it was because the original actor, Richard Harris, died and they had to cast a new actor. Ian McKellan was asked first but he turned it down and Michael Gambon (who passed away a couple months ago) was cast instead.

Books are much deeper in lore and characters and very much worth a read. If you watch all 8 movies, I'll be here

Speaking of John Williams and his score, he actually repeated music from "Attack of the Clones" in the next movie, "Chamber of Secrets." They were both released in the same year. The last one of these that I watched was the third one. Maybe if they ever get on a streaming service that I have without an extra cost or without annoying ads, I might continue.

This came out when my daughter was 13. We enjoyed these movies as a family and I still watch them myself. They hold up and are not just for kids. #3 is my favorite one of the series, although they take a darker turn from #4 on. I hope you keep doing these. They are more than worthwhile and I look forward to your reactions. By the way, you can tour the actual sets at Warner Brothers/Leavesden Studios in London, UK. It’s a big attraction unto itself. I’ve done it and it’s marvelous! Even at my age, one can have fun with Harry Potter. I’ve been sorted into Ravenclaw, my daughter into Slytherin, and I have an official replica of Gilderoy Lockhart’s wand! He was also Ravenclaw and you will meet him in the 2nd movie. Hope you continue with these! Great video!

The movies get better and more mature as they go along.....and also darker

I love watching people react to this franchise. It is extremely well written. There are people and things introduced in early books/movies that only become important later in the series. Also some plot twists. There are of course a number of character arcs. One of the least expected but most satisfying is Neville Longbottom.

It’s always fascinating to see reactors that haven’t read the books! I’m 70 and read the books as an adult, which are so much richer than the movies. Some adults who only watched the movies go on to read the books.

I subscribed and turned on all notifications because I expect you to watch the rest of the films! They don’t all stay charming and childlike, you’ll end up bawling your eyes out later in the series. I hope you stick with it!

In the opening scene Harry is in a blanket you can’t see how big he was and these movies are not children movies they become extremely violent, and extremely dangerous extremely quickly

So I'm pretty sure, I'll have to do some research, but I think the reason why the Baby Harries look different ages is because they used 2 different child actors. I would imagine they used one baby for the scenes with Harry's parents and one baby for the scenes sith Dumbledore etc in the very beginning.

Oh wowwww, ive gone through these movies so many times and I have never noticed the size difference in the babies in the beginning lmao nice catch there.

Ron has five older brothers. Bill and Charlie are grown and out on their own. Percy the perfect prefect is next, he's in his last year when Harry starts, he's the one who tells Harry who Snape is. The twins are Fred and George, malcontents, pranksters, and overall good blokes to not have mad at you, they are a couple of years older than Ron. The last Weasely is introduced in the next movie, and we also meet the Weasely dad. Along with the family home, The Burrow. In the book, Rin is injured because he replaces the horse himself, and is hit directly by the opposing queen during the chess game. The director didn't want that, so we are left windering why Ron is hurt by a fall of only a couple of feet.

BTW in history of alchemy, and in original British issue of the book, it was "... Philosopher's Stone". When the book was to be published in the USA, the title was dumbed down to ".... Sorcerer's Stone" so as not to confuse American readers. And so it stayed in the movie as well. True story.

I have loved Harry Potter since my late 30's or was it early 40's loaned the first few books from my niece, read the rest as they came out, loved them been rereading them ever since, Watched each movie as it came out and many times since. then reread the books. 61 now still mad on this.

Being from scotland with the mysticism and lore "even my my surname sangster,we sing sangs instead of songs on the east coast,so songster is a musical storyteller haha" it's more like a diary of most childrens childhood 😂

Just to explain so you continue with the story, (not trying to force you, but convince you) The books also the movies were made in a way that the audience can grow with as the characters also grows, so because the 1st movie Harry is 11, seem more childish but each movie gets a little darker.

The movie start getting darker from the second one and more intense from the third movie on which is actually my favorite book and movie the third one. Their acting also gets better over time and they get used to playing their parts more as well. The actor of Dumboldore passed away after the third movie if I remember correctly so they used a new actor in the forth one and until the 8th movie. Tecnically it's 7 books but the the movie was split into two so that they could get everything that was important into it.

"Happy Christmas" is used in the UK, and since Harry Potter is an UK franchise...

The movies kind of make Ron the comic relief. In the books he's a much more complex character and a good pal.

Continue, each book and movie gets more darker and the character’s development gets bigger by the 3rd on you won’t want to stop.

Hermione's name is pronounced "Her-my-onee" basically, fun story I grew up reading the books so in my head I pronounced it very differently. I live in India and that was a name I had never heard in my life.

Some of my younger friends were very into the books as they released, but I hadn't given them much thought. When the first movie came out, I went and saw it and enjoyed it. Still didn't get around to the books until after I saw the second movie. At that point I didn't want to wait for the movies to read the story. So I bought books 3, 4, and 5. I then went back and read the first 2 books. From that point I was hooked. I got Book 6 and Book 7 at midnight releases, and saw all the movies opening weekends. I absolutely love it and am glad more people are finding their way to the franchise.

Great reaction! I hope you continue with the movies... they get better and darker as you go, but I bet you'll enjoy the journey. I am a huge Star Wars fan, but have also enjoyed Harry Potter as well.

I loooved this review cause I love Harry Potter. My favorite one is Prisoner of Azkaban (3). You should most definitely watch them all. They get better and better and has a great ending.

Im sure lots of people have already said it, but you should definitely watch the 2nd one. Each story becomes a little more mature and a little darker. By the time you get to the last couple theyre straight up adult movies.

Definitely watch the rest. It is worth the trip in clicks alone. But I grew up with this franchise (and judging by your comments we seem to be close enough in age), alongside Star Wars, superheroes, all that jazz and to me it always complimented the more sci fi elements and the themes run deep ESPECIALLY if you read the books

1 and 2 are kinda more for kids but 3 is where it gets really good. I'd say the third movie is one of my favorite movies of all time let alone in the series. If the third one doesn't get you hooked then you're probably not gonna like the rest.😂

Harry was almost 1 year old when his parents were murdered.

My favorite HP movie? The final one. This series builds up to the conclusion.

Don’t feel bad, I can never remember the names, I call them “Harry Potter $x” as well. My eldest grew up with these, I took him to see all of them as they came out and he’s read all the books, many times. I like them because it reminds me of those times of him as a kid, they were magical for that generation.

First one is definitely made for kids. Starting with the third movie, older demographics can really get something out of it also.

I love watching people get into the Harry Potter movies. Since you haven't read the books (though you really should!), you need to watch these movies closer together. I just came upon your channel tonight, and I see that you watched this one a month ago and there isn't a part 2. Maybe you already watched it but just haven't uploaded it. But even if you don't want to have further videoed reactions for this, you should really give the rest of the series a try. It is amazing! Thanks for y'all's reactions, though. It was fun!
