Harry Kane shares all with Gary Neville - his future, England career & more | The Overlap

Спорт

I'm delighted to share with you all the second episode of The Overlap, with England Captain Harry Kane.
We discuss Harry's Tottenham career, and he shares how he is fast approaching a cross-roads, and how an honest conversation with Chairman Daniel Levy is needed.
I dive into his time with England, reflecting on Iceland, the World Cup, and his hopes for the EUROs.
Harry shares his inspirations, and how the Michael Jordan documentary ""The Last Dance"" has impacted his outlook.
He strives to be on Messi's & Ronaldo's level, and reveals how he wants to break both Shearer's and Rooney's records.
Should Harry leave Tottenham? I want to know what you think in the comments.
Make sure to subscribe to never miss an episode, and let us know who you want to see my speak to next.
0:00-17:30 - Kane on his future, Tottenham, and Pochettino & Mourinho
17:30-35:18 Life with England, the impact of The Last Dance and becoming an NFL kicker
35:18-48:52 Aiming to break Shearer’s & Rooney’s records, aspiring to be on Messi/Ronaldo’s level and hopes for the EUROs
48:52-1:03:21 Wanting to play with De Bruyne, breaking through, and VAR

I rather watch current players being interviewed by former players instead of TV hosts or Presenters. You can see how naturally Kane talks with Gary and that’s exactly what the fans like to see.

I've been a Tottenham fan since 1985. Sheringham was with us for 166 appearances and won nothing. In three years at Man Utd, he had three Premier Leagues, a Champions League and an FA Cup. It's not Kane's fault, it is ours. We need to do better.

@@conor459 Yes I agree, was a little bemused to hear of his lack on interest in sports science too. I'd disagree that the squad looks any more or less fit than when he joined though. Fitness was not the issue for that spurs squad haha, far from it. There was an extreme incompetence in defence, many many times they had individual errors leading to goals when they were ahead. This led to their momentum crumbling around Xmas and after this occurred, the pressure was on and they folded, their weak mentality once again taking hold of their performances on the pitch.

I don’t think he said Jose had a lack of interest in sports science more that he expected players to be in the gym and they had sessions put on for them. Like Kane said, they are professionals, do they really need the manager to babysit them and get them in the gym? If you’re an athlete surely you know to be in the gym

He's the best and humbling captain. England is one of the strongest teams in the world, unfortunately, they have not won the tournaments. Fascinating to hear Harry... his commitment to his craft, (trained for 3 months using only his left peg etc). His drive for perfection and learning which will only get better probably working with Pep. He will lead by example and will likely win a pile of medals. He brings more to a team than just a striker; leadership, goals, assists, knowledge and experience, having worked with a few decent managers already, winners mindset. He will be great in bringing on younger players too. I think any of big teams will be foolish to pass him up. I can see him going into management too once his playing days are over.

@@jonathanb1406 Mata and Jose clashed cos Mata couldn’t defend. In fact Hazard said the same; he wasn’t a fan until he listened and played both sides of the game and that put him on a different level. Hence why a lot of managers loved Willian even though he doesn’t get the same amount of goals and assists. Everyone who has listened to Jose had developed very well and loved him. With Casillas and Ramos, it was an ego clash. Those 2 were “bigger” (and Ramos is still is) than the club. There are only few managers that when the leave some players cry, ask Inter, Porto and Chelsea players.

@@lashibi09 I mean, to be fair, Mata is an attacking midfielder, it's not his job to defend. He can do his part closing down or getting back, sure, but expecting an attacking player to be good at defending and marginalising them for not being is ludicrous. He was the same with Joe Cole, always having a go cause he wasn't a good defender, again, not the primary job of attacking players, and basically beat all the flair out of him. Shoving out a respected, world-class goalkeeper and total professional like Iker Casillas after being there 25 years because of ego is equally ludicrous. If a manager can't put ego aside for good of the team and instead decides to ostracise players everywhere he goes then clearly the fault lies with that manager.

I don't think he will leave this window though, unless Levy backs down and someone puts the big money on the table. So maybe we can perform and make him satisfied next season. I really hope. But either way, my favorite player ever, and an absolute club legend. If he leaves, it's all with good relation, and I'm 100% sure he'll return some day as well. It's written in the stars. Brilliant to hear he practiced so hard for 3 months just on his left foot finishing and he saw the benefits of it. Sick of players who repeatedly try to get the ball onto their favourite foot. Some players don't seem to have a lot of the basic skills of the game. They are just lucky they are around when 5here is so much money sloshing around in the game.

There’s a reason it’s a preferred foot. There will always be a comfort shooting with your strong foot. It’s not a negative for players to do that

@@En1_1 You've completely missed my point. Harry kane said he spent 3 months concentrating on his weaker foot until it was to a good standard. Young kids spend years at academies and once they come out of them their weak foot is still weak. If they worked on their weak foot it would eventually be almost on a par with their main foot. So many players work to get the ball onto their strong foot and that is when seconds are lost and chances are gone. Look at James milner. Can't cross with his left. So always has to stop. Check onto his right foot and then crosees. In the Premier league one second is an eternity and this second often gives defences time to get back. Being two footed is a basic skill. Or should be for a footballer. I always wonder what players do in training. Apparently not a lot seems to be the answer. None of the players seem to be able to head the ball these days. Most avoid heading it. But that may be due to avoiding dementia in later life. But even the most basic levels of ball control and passing are frequently woefully inadequate these days. Too many work more on their 6 packs than their actual football skills.

@@redmed10 this just isn’t correct. If your tryna suggest people were less one footed in the past, that is straight horse shit. Look at these new players. The likes of foden, mount, Saka, greenwood, dembele, sancho, rashford, rayan cherki, dominik slobozlai. Compare to the likes of Giggs, rivaldo, and all them were ridiculously one footed. I disagree with this. This isn’t a problem
