Lyrics:
Never thought that you would be
standing here so close to me
there's so much I feel that I should say
but words can wait until some other day
Kiss me once, then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time
Haven't felt like this, my dear
Since I can't remember when
It's been a long, long time
You'll never know how many dreams
I've dreamed about you
Or just how empty they all seemed without you
So kiss me once, then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time
Ah, kiss me once, then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long time
Haven't felt like this my dear
Since I can't remember when
It's been a long, long time
You'll never know how many dreams
I dreamed about you
Or just how empty they all seemed without you
So kiss me once then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time
Long, long time

This was my Mom and Dad's song, THEIR song...Dad fought in WWII and Mom was German and survived the war as a young girl and teenager...they met after the war when Mom was 18 and got married in 1948, and were very happily married for 30+ years...I remember Mom telling my sister and me how Dad would always sing this softly in her ear as they danced together every time this song was played...I cry every time I hear this as I remember the happiness and love of a beautiful, wonderful life as a family, and seeing the love the 2 most wonderful people I have ever known had for each other...this song has always meant everything to me, from those special memories and the happiest, innocent times of my life...RIP, Mom and Dad, you will always and forever be the most precious and loving memory of my life, and I know you still dance to your song together in Heaven...you can imagine the emotions running down my cheeks as I watched Steve and Peggy, back in time to those very same days, and remembered...I'm crying now...remembering...

My 20 year old son just passed away last week after a 3 and half year battle with cancer. A few days before he passed he told me and his mother that he would listen to this song and dream about it being played at his wedding and asked us to play it at his funeral. I can't explain the emotions I get when hearing this song now. He was just 20 years old but he had an old soul. Rest in peace Lucas, we love you

Years ago, my grandmother and I danced to this song in her parlor in Lynn, MA. She loved this song and remembered hearing it at USO dances during the last year of the war. Grammy couldn’t dance very well after the car accident, but I couldn’t either. Holding her as we circled around that small room meant a lot then and means the world now. Twenty years later, Alzheimer’s and time took her away, but this song played last Fall as my boyfriend and I drove back to my house from picking up plants. It was as though Grammy was giving us her blessing from beyond this realm and it was at that moment I knew for certain that Trevor and I were meant to be and we had the go ahead from her and all our favorite people of that wonderful generation that have gone to their reward. I pray we dance to this marvelous song at our wedding.

I was always a sickly, anxious, depressed, tiny, scrawny, antisocial loner. But i always tried to do the right thing, even when no one was looking. I even served in the military for a few long, difficult years and did well, got decorated, but left because my health got worse. Now im in my mid-thirties and can barely breathe from hyper-inflated lungs, an overactive bladder means i have to use the restroom every half hour even at night when im trying to sleep, which was already hard from insomnia and delayed sleep phase syndrome (chronic night owl). But i listen to this and imagine getting a super soldier serum and vita ray treatment, and after years of fighting to save the world i get to just slow dance forever with my version of peggy carter (samara weaving as nix from guns akimbo haha). Its all just pretend, but it makes me cry because i can actually feel a fraction of a percent like captain america must have felt. In real life, Hydra won, Thanos won, and hope is gone, but for a few minutes each night this song keeps me going.🇺🇸👩🏼‍🤝‍👨🏻🇺🇸

This song causes me very strong feelings. I get goosebumps when I hear this. It's like I remember something, which doesn't make a lot of sense because the lyrics are about romance. I don't really know what it means, or if anyone feels the same way, but it's magical the feeling I get everytime I hear it.

Guys, we all took the time to find this song through different faucets of media or because of experiences and memories we share with loved ones, there is no need to make someone feel like they don't care for this song nor the genre it comes from because of that. We are all here to enjoy this piece and what brought us all here. Please, it's so ignorant to try and demean someone based off the way they found this song. None of you are more special than the other. Alright my rant is over lol

@@harshshah._. Crime was low, American people loved America, men did not curse around ladies and/or children, I could play outside in safety and just go home for lunch which my stay at home mother made for me then fun back out to play with my friends. We had zero electronics and had so much fun playing with each other outside (unless it was raining and then we could make tents using sheets and dining room chairs to pretend in). We used our imaginations for everything and pretended things we could find outside were certain objects we needed for our play. We had to learn to get along with each other and we had to learn that some people had more or better abilities than others and be ok with that. I could go on and on and on about how things were in the America I grew up in and loved. Thank you for asking. ❤ P.S., I was 17 in 1965 😁 😁

@@harshshah._. Watch some movies from the 1940's and you will get some of the flavor of it. People were civil to one another, certain manners and courtesies were shown, children could play outside without their parents having to worry about someone harming them, children were allowed to just be children (I loved swinging as high as I could and then jumping out of the swing, climbing trees, digging in the dirt and making things, using my imagination by myself or with a friend or two, no electronic devices (got a transistor radio for my 13th birthday in 1962 or so). It was as different from now as day is from night.
