Amazing
I LOVE LOVE REALLY LOVE YOUR VOICE HARRISON!! I LOVE YOU
I feel like he actually wanted to say, "from the bottom of my heart", but the words couldn't come out. So he said, "from me to you" instead. I understand that kind of frustration because I stutter myself, and we often end up not saying what we really want to say because it's too hard. So we substitute it with a much shorter phrase instead, but we feel sad after that because we didn't get our real words out.

Nicholas Lawrence Thank you for articulating how if feels to stutter. When people ask me to describe it, I liken my brain to a massive highway overpass. At least half of the bridges have collapsed, with a third of what remains under constant roadwork. The difficulty in being a stutterer comes from navigating through detours, to reach the desired words. The occasional pothole can trip you up, causing the words to cascade into each other, which can often lead to a cacophonous multitude of voices, spouting out potential answers for the current situation, that leads to the true voice being stifled, in order to get a partial message out. Thanks again for your message and I hope you have a stellar day.

Nicholas Lawrence Thank you so much! It’s always amazing to be able to engage with fellow stutterers, particularly over a medium where fluency doesn’t detract from the message. While I have only been a stutterer for about eight years now, I do think that the sudden transition into stuttering was rather jarring to get used to, even though I am oddly grateful for having had the opportunity to see things through a new perspective. I had to quickly learn how to carefully consider what I wanted to talk about, while economising on words. I’m a lot better at it now, but I do think it odd that The King’s Speech was released a year before, but the DVD came out a few months before I started. That kind of representation of stuttering, especially all of Harrison’s work on and after The Voice went a long way to help me rationalise what had happened, to see how I could learn to wrench the control away from my stutter, so that I could steer it instead. Sorry. I came here to reply and I leave a mini essay behind. If you have made it down this far, I must thank you again for your amazing reply and I wish for equally incredible experiences and people to come your way also! All the best!

@@johngreen8344 Thank you for your sharing and good wishes! There's something I'm curious to know: Do you mean that you suddenly woke up one day and started stuttering? That's the impression that I got from what I read. In my situation, I started stuttering as soon as I started talking LOL I think it runs in the family a bit because my maternal grandfather stutters a lot too, and so do his two sons (my uncles) to some extent. His daughters, including my mum, all do not stutter, so I think it affects the men in the family more. Which is not surprising as statiatically, more men stutter than women.

Nicholas Lawrence Yeah, there was a bit of a build up of events, which lead to me becoming a stutterer, but one thing that helped me to learn how to control it was the fact that I was so socially active beforehand. I was the type of kid who always tried to answer every question in class and I’d put my hand up to read aloud at every possible chance. I spent a number of classes afterward, asking to speak, only to struggle through each painful paragraph, hoping I could reclaim the fluency I once had. Interestingly I ended up getting involved in public speaking. I always manage to get exceedingly nervous immediately before and after giving a speech, but when I am in the middle of it, it is amazing to speak and feel the quiet rush from connecting with a room, without my stutter haphazardly rewriting my speech for me on the fly. It reminds me of this stuttering presenter, whose name I need to remember, who went to give a speech at a stuttering convention, only to realise when he was on stage, that his audience consisted of people who stutter, along with a bunch of their friends and relatives. He realised that he could take as long as he needed to give the speech, without having to worry about people asking him to hurry up or get on with it. I do think it is fascinating how stutters can be inherited and how they can be selective about who they affect. While I hope this is appropriate, I used to listen to a podcast that really helped me to connect with people who stutter, called StutterTalk, where they discuss voluntarily stuttering and how making small, deliberate stutters can help to make it easier to exert control over the stutter. They also make episodes to talk about how to treat stuttering, without making the stutterer feel guilty for lack of fluency. While it helped me to retain my fluency, it was so affirming to hear about other people contending with the same issues. However, I do think it’d help to have contact with someone who stutters, as it’d be good to discuss potential techniques to use/avoid, in order to manage it.
My bet...during this performance there were more than just a few ladies In this audience that wanted to take him into their arms and never let him go!
Your such a loving singer
A Treasure!
