Harriman State Park - Why We LOVE IT! | Hiking Vlog

We love Harriman State Park!
On this day we hiked to Pine Meadow Lake via the 7 Hills Trail (although we added a little section, to take us up Diamond Mountain as well). This was a new hike for us, so we were both super excited! The hike started off with uphill hiking, which actually was just what we needed to get our bodies moving and blood pumping. The trail mellowed out after that, meandered through the forest, over a brook, and eventually lead us to Pine Meadow Lake.
Pine Meadow Lake blew us away. Crystal clear, greenish blue water, sunny skies. It was awesome. Onward we pushed, eventually climbing our way up Diamond Mountain. The NYC skyline is clearly visible from the top. This would make for an awesome sunrise spot (hint hint). From the summit of Diamond Mountain, we hiked down the ridge, back into the trees, and made our way down the same slope we began the hike on. The total mileage was 6.2 miles.
Harriman State Park is the second largest state park in New York, coming in at a whopping 47,527 acres. 31 lakes/reservoirs and 200 miles of hiking trails have made this a favorite park for us! We have even stepped foot on the Appalachian Trail here at Harriman, as it runs right through the park. There is something for everyone at Harriman State Park. If you are looking for incredible hiking within an hour of NYC, look no further!
We hope you enjoyed this hiking vlog style video. We love hiking, so expect many more hiking videos. Explore the outdoors with us.

I have to check that trail out, my biggest fear is getting lost, just got some new ASOLO hiking boots and definitely have to put them to good use. A little tip, banana peels, orange peels can be put on the ground, it’s like compost, everything else you bring back with you. Great video here by the way. Love it.

Have you ever walked this path when it's mud season, around early April? Just wondering if it's a low enough elevation to be relatively safe to walk at that time.

We have never actually hiked here in early April. However, it’s definitely at a low enough elevation to be totally safe! Unless it’s right after a big snow/ice storm, or a super cold April day, totally safe!! Have fun!

Well, that was a fun hike! I’m curious what all the structures and old pipes were from? I haven’t made it to New York yet- hopefully some day. Thanks for a fun video!

Those ruins, stone structures and pipes all are remnants from 1930s by CCC. All but one, Island Pond, out of 30+ lakes are also handy works by young men in that era. 👍

Thanks for the question! So for the most part, most trails start at an area called a trailhead and have a designated parking lot for the trails in that area.

Friendly advice: don't wear black pants in tick country! Harriman is loaded with ticks, but if you wear light-colored pats, you can spot ticks easily!
