This video is a resource for harness training your cat. I have two lovely cat co-stars to help me demonstrate.

The first method of harness training your cat is positive reinforcement with food. The second method is positive reinforcement with affection and praise.
We hope you and your cat get some value from this video and some positive bonding time ahead!

You have the most patient cats ever. Mine, is a former feral as a kitten and extremely dramatic about even touching and sitting next to me 😩 can’t get her to put on harness!

My cat is also an ex feral, he loves to cuddle but man he throws such a tantrum over the harness, I tried to put it on him two nights ago & he started heaving like he was choking, nothing ever touched his neck tho, of course I put the harness down to make sure he was okay & as soon as I put it down he stopped & looked at me like “ha, sucker, I knew that would work” he’s such a drama Queen.

Thank You. I have 2 Beautiful Black Cats, Ellie and Theo.
Thank you for this beautiful and helpful video. Good luck to everyone! meow!
I just bought my cat Nugget a harness for the first time today and none of my animals wear one so I was so confused and it took me almost 30 mins to figure it out and finally found your video and now I can take my baby boy out on road trips with me 😁
This assumes your cat doesn't freak the hell out at all when trying to put it on 🤣 Mine goes nutts and fights out and always finds a way of liquid catting out of it

We all have to remember that cats don't have spines hence being able to get out of anything or sit in a tiny tiny box. LOL
You had a beautiful modelcat in this vid 😁 Thanks for that bunch of information! The first method is very tnifty but useful, never thought about that before.
I decided it's maybe time to start training my cat to harness when she decided to snuck out of my apartment when I was coming inside . She always waited me by the door and always stretched her neck to sniff the hallway of the building but that ws the first time she actully went outside. Luckily she didnvt run off like a rocket and it was relatively easy to get her right away back in without grabbing her in my arms. (ofcourse I would have if she were more curious and wanted to search every corner) today I went and bought her a harness and here I am looking tips to get her used to it ^^
Good stuff! THANK YOU MUCH
Our kitten was having none of the Harness, but we had a 2 buckle (neck and torso) harness and he just hated it but we didn’t know what we were doing and assumed we could just sneak it on. I think using the positive treat reinforcement may help, but he may never let us try again after our first blunder. I find it difficult to believe we are the only ones who ever struggled to put a harness on a cat. Your vid makes it look so easy.
Thanks! I couldn’t figure it out until I saw your video 😊
Thank you very helpful!
You are amazing I have been looking at so many videos to try to figure out how to put this on its on my cat and you made it so easy thank you thank you thank you

Hello. My cat doesnt really want his harness and now I know why. It has to be introduced to them gradually until they get used to it. Thanks a lot. 😊
This was really helpful! Thank you! By the way you have a beautiful smile.
Good morning first day seeing your videos ;)
Can you PLEASE tell me the brand and model? I can't seem to find a lightweight harness that does not involve putting the cats head through a loop first, rather than the step-in method. Thank you!

Weird coincidence! Also, with warmer weather, it’s the cat walking season!
Thank-you….
I'm in the uk I preferbthat one as I have dexterity problems and can't do lots of clips. Where can I purchase this bone ty❤
i took my kitten out for the first time today, a school bus went by and scared the literal piss out of him.. i felt so bad but omg would have been hilarious to watch! thankfully only got a little on me ahahah andmanaged to not get scratched :p
My cat is patient but he just lies down and won't walk properly w the harness on. He doesn't like it how do I get him to be okay with walking with it on? I live in a small trailer and it's too tiny for him, I need to be able to take him out :(( but the harness is a bit big and multiple buckles
My cat is way too smart. The moment she see any kind of a harness type thing she start running under the bed. I can give her the favorite treat all i want. Doesnt work. The only way I can put a harness or any clothing item on my cat is if we put her to sleep. And she is never a feral cat. We rescued her when she was three weeks old and train her to do everything right except she hate having clothes or anything on her body. A collar for some reason she is fine with

She does sound like a smart one! It’s a balance between trying to train this with your cat, and deciding that it’s just not for them. And that totally okay too
What age is ideal to harness training them?

@@badcatfamily oh ok thank you.
Hey! This is really urgent and I'd be really grateful if you would respond if you see this: I live in a country enduring hardship, and I'm traveling in a week. The airport requires that my cat (11 years old) wears a harness. This is difficult because she's never had that experience before. As I'm writing this she's sitting in her harness, which is fairly loose but not loose enough for her to squirm out of. I tried feeding her treats and gave her some catnip for her to calm down, and now she's sitting, still alarmed, but not freaking out anymore. I wanted to ask if I could keep her in this harness for a few hours for her to get used to it (again it's loose and she only seems a little dismayed because she's never worn one before). Thanks!

So sorry you are having to go through this. Yes you can keep your cat in a harness for several hours. Just don’t leave them alone with it on in case they tangled on something. Praying for you!

My cat keeps turning the part where the leash is supposed to attach to the opposite direction (on his belly) we tried getting the harness more tight but he still does it. What can I do?
@MsNoPixel

Ummm with the harness she showed you shouldn’t physically be able to do that so you may be doing something wrong there.
what can I do if my cat wiggles and slides out of every harness? she managed to get several different ones off...

I have a video called “Stop the Flop”. It’s directed more towards solving the problem of cats flopping over when they get the harness on, but overall it explains how to attempt to re associate your cat to the harness. Unfortunately, once they learn they can get out of them, they may keep trying. Maybe something more secure like a cat backpack or stroller would be good for your cats adventures. Best of luck!

@@badcatfamily thank you so much, will have a look into that asap!!! she is so good at getting out of stuff, like cones too, thats where we first tried a harness. Seeing she's an only and an indoor cat (city living) i really would love to give her the opportunity of a walk some time, but i'm scared she might dash...

Question: I just adopted a skittish 7 yr old kitty less than 2 mos. ago. Do I have to remove her everyday bell collar when I put on her harness? She startles easily and I don’t want to put her under any undue stress. (She let me the collar on her today w no problem but she hasn’t moved from her comfy blanket bed perch by the window since, which isn’t normal. Is it bc of the collar?) Thanks for a great tutorial.!
@badcatfamily
3 жыл бұрын
Some cats are bothered by the constant sound of the bell. I take the bells off of collars for my cats. That being said, you can absolutely use a harness while the collar is still on, just depending where the neck of the harness fits around, if that makes sense.
What is that treat you are using?
@badcatfamily
2 жыл бұрын
It’s a squeeze tube/pouch cat treat. It’s like a paste meat. Which sounds gross but the cats love it. I usually find it at the grocery store or pet store
My cat is 3 years old and i have tryed every harness and leash he just sit and dosent move i have tried for 87 times for to years the only thing he likes is his coller
What cat treat pouch dog you recommend?
@MsNoPixel
2 жыл бұрын
The one she specifically used is called inaba churu. I’ve tried almost every “lickable” treat out there & my cat hates them all, only crunchy treats work but he doesn’t care for treats or affection when a harness is involved because he’s dramatic & will even pretend he’s choking to get out of it.
so I can get the harness on him but he won't move and he walks like a drunk haha 😆 what can I do to help with that?

It’s important to remember that your cats first experience with this may have to be broken down into smaller steps and take a longer period of time. This demonstration is shown on my cats who have already learned this. Don’t be hard on yourself or your cats. My cats did NOT look this easy the first times trying 😅
