I doubt someone will now that TVs are smart enough to switch to the input you want paired with Google/Apple hubs. If you're not running a projector or physical media then those hubs should work for 90% of people. I think projector manufacturers just need to add support for homekit/Google. I think only LG does that right now. So my guess is the others will follow suit in time if people are louder about it.

@@gnevos Strangely my Chromecast remote can’t switch inputs on my Onkyo receiver. So as nice as it is to have a remote that works with HDMI CEC, it’s still not quite as good as my Harmony 650 which I exclusively use for everything. Albeit, it is a little busy with all the buttons. Who even needs numbers anymore? I wish my Chromecast remote actually switched inputs or a menu popped up and allowed you to switch them.

Hello Youthman, thanks for this video. I'm still using a Harmony Elite but as I see they've cancelled the availabilty of their database. Ie., I wanted to program a new "macro" but I've failed to connect to their service. Am I right saying that hey closed all availability? I'll be in a trouble if I would replace my TV or any other component... Thanks for your reply.

I've got this remote and simply can't get it working with my Nvidia Sheild TV or my new Epson LS800 UST. I can get some various things and settings mapped for each remote, but none of the volume, select, or directional pads will ever work. Any ideas out there?

My Samsung Qn90a remote doesn't have an inputs button, and hitting 10 button presses to get to the menu is tedius and finicky with the solar powered included remote. Is there a way to open the TV's input selection menu with 1 click on the harmen remote?

I had a Harmany 650 for years. I am a very simple person. I hit a button and my TV and receiver came on and I could control the volume on my receiver. What is a good basic remote for me? Marantz reciever and LG TV. All my content I us my ps4 or 5 controller for.

I still use a Philips tsu 9400 and to me this is still top of the food chain for remotes. I know the 9600, but the size is just ridiculous for an in room remote. Philips was way ahead of anything in the remote game. Logitech never made anything that came close to the capabilities of the 9xxx Philips. This thing works with everything up to my Pioneer lx704, avr4700, oppo203, 2021 a/c, and yet still works with my carver 29v, Mitsubishi av-1 Pioneer Dv-F07, 2021Samsung TV, 2000's lg plasma, smsl q5 amps, black and decker rf switching outlets, truly everything I have ever tried. To all those wishing something better than Logitech would come out, it did in 2008 you just missed it. Looks like they took note of the shape,dual colors, trackball(selector wheel), and some other features from the Philips. It's about time someone tries to make an advancement not only in style but function. The 9xxx were never easy either. Nothing worth doing in life ever is!!! It is for the dedicated consumer or someone with a checkbook to cover the learning curve. This seems may have some of the same quarks. But when did people stop wanting an understanding of how and why the things works and the customization and making it yours. The only reason Harmony became the go to is the laziness factor. I'll be trying this one out. I mean, you can't even pick up a used 9400 for less than $300. For what you get for the cost it is worth trying out. I think my tsu9600 was only like $4k back in 2009 and my 9400 I got on a sale in 2012 for around $1k so........ yeah $150 for something that makes an attempt at being a remote and not some plug and play simple solution for all, I'm game. If it sucks it just goes off to the harmony drawer.

I have a harmony elite and it's still be supported by the manufacturer even though they stopped making them. I just looked online and some people are asking more than a $1000 dollars for it! Lol! I actually have a extra brand new one unopened that I purchased for a gift but ,the person I got it for already has one. It's good that their are alternatives out there just in case. I figured once they were discontinued someone would come up with a solution. Although whoever wins the official alternative has huge boots to fill as I absolutely love mine. It does everything!

Wish I hadn't sold mine 2 years ago... I just went with a harmony hub my phone and the little watch battery powered remote. It works much better for me and my elite had been sitting on its charger for several years so I didn't need it but man would of loved to gotten more than I did for it at the time.

If you use a PC for alot of your content a Stream Deck works pretty good as a makeshift remote. You can open and close apps like Netflix, Hulu, Plex, Kodi, your PC games. Volume up and down and pause and play can all be added as a simple button. I leave it on the table beside my couch and you can set how long the backlight is lit.

No one ever seems to mention the Home Control elements that the Harmony has. I think it's really useful for controlling lights through Philips Hue and Smartthings. Non of the new alternatives seem to have even attempted any integration?

so far, I have reviewed the Sofabaton X1 (wasn’t impressed) and the Super Remote (very stable but their app needs improvement to make it more user friendly.). I’m also waiting to review the YIO Remote 2 which looks very promising and seems to be a higher end remote.

Thanks to CEC my Samsung remote can run my Zidoo, tv, and Marantz receiver. However, no macros (obviously), and I can't incorporate lighting. It's nice to see companies attempting to step up but I'll hold out until there's a streamlined product.

CEC is a nightmare and there is no "standard" with that protocol. if it would be 100% working across the board, I would agree with your use of CEC.

@@rickjames302 today I just realized my 2016 Sony Android TV remote can control a Google TV plugged into one of the HDMI ports. Got confused thinking the 2016 TV was getting Google TV version 12 but it wasn't, hit home and controls go back to 2016 TV.

This is great and looks like it could replace my harmony elite when it eventually dies, seems like a good start and the more people use it and the company add devices the better it will become. Hopefully they get english help to fix the app, pro remotes are very expensive and you have to pay an installer to set it up and make changes.

I just received the Sofabaton X1S in for review. I told them if it’s as buggy as the first one they sent me a few years ago, I would not bother reviewing it. The best joy, super remote, was much more stable, but their app at that time, very difficult to use an unpolished. I do not know if they have updated it since my review. The Unfolded Circle Remote Two looks promising, but it appears it has a learning curve. Not seeming like a good replacement for Harmony. But a more expensive remote is actually better than Harmony. Pro Control , Pro 24r. Also has a addon option with a processor . As an authorized installer I am very interested with what it can do.

I guess that means I'll need to place an IR sensor somewhere with line-of-sight to the Joy, and maybe have to aim the latter. Do I have that right?

It might be a good remote, but without dedicated play/pause/stop buttons it's not for me. I don't want to have to scroll a trackball and hold the remote in horizontal orientation to get the correct soft button.

@@Youthman Thanks! I might give it a shot. I fumble 7 remotes and I'm absolutely sick of it. My Harmony died, and I refuse to pay $300 or $400 for a remote that cost $49.95 when I first bought it.

I have the Klipsch RF 82 ii 34hz - 24khz. What crossover frequency can I use.

The Harmony Elite is better in every way compared to the Sofa, but its nice too.

HDMI CEC makes some of this unneeded now. My Marantz isn't in a place where IR can reach it so for me, I use one remote while watching content, typically my shield which will allow me to change content, pause, and adjust volume, and I use my cel phone as my Marantz remote mostly just to make sure it is in the right surround mode and outputting properly. Most things turn on properly too with triggers when I power up the projector/shield. Only thing I need to power up separately is my old Marantz avr which is acting as a secondary amp. It's a neat product and glad someone is trying to step up to fill the gap in the consumer space, ultimately, I think i'd go in the direction of like a Brilliant controller to upgrade my theater smarts for lighting and climate macros.

@@WellFedProductions nope, but that functionality wasn't demonstrated here either with this thing. I know the harmony can. Once a movie is started, I don't need to controll my lights and such, so that functionality is more of a cool factor when entering the room and starting a movie, and family ease of use. I personally am ok using my ge smart wireless remote or google home/Alexa smartphone app to control my lighting scenes and my shield or projector remote to control most other things. I was just saying with CEC it isn't as important as it once was to use a smart all in one remote for control while watching content. One remote now automatically in most cases does the 2 most important things, transport controls and volume. The other stuff is mostly convenance during start up/shut down. Personal preference, but I kinda like going to my rack and turning on the components. Gives me a feeling of power and pride lol. But no, the wife probably couldn't start a movie without me, not without some instruction first, but also she isn't going in to the home theater without me anyway so. When she wants solo watch time the OLED and sound bar is plenty for her, and she can use those just fine. I get my situation isn't everyone's, I was just speaking for me, I didn't need a $300+ harmony before, and I don't need this, yet.

HDMI CEC is a convoluted mess with every manufacturer seeming to find a way to implement it slightly differently so nothing works together. I travel a ton and CEC has worked on a grand total of ZERO hotel tvs with my chromecast. Same experience with every device at home.

@@lilstubthumb I guess everyone's experience is different, It worked for me at a hotel with a fire stick someone before us left and at home, both my shield remote and my projector remote change the volume on my Marantz 7706 just fine, and my projector remote can navigate the shield also fine (with the 7706 sitting between them even).

That is a great question. It should. Once they pull the database, that will be when we find out if it’s required for functionality or just adding new devices/

Ok, so the functionality setup is so arcane as to be very difficult to use. It makes sense to engineers but less so to the rest of us. It’s how a Chinese engineer would want it and I’m sure it’s efficient if you understand it. Let’s call it Windows before Apple showed them how to make a mouse work. It looks like what almost all of these companies need to do is think Macintosh of the past; form a Human Interface group to test it and see if it’s workable for regular people. More English translation would be helpful, too. This remote may be the answer someday but that time seems a way off. I’m still looking.

Expensive!

I never understood why companies like this don't pay a native english speaker a few bucks to proofread their advertising materials at the very least. If they come out with a hub, have a local api and generally improve their software, it could turn out to be good.

One of the ports on the back of the cube is for ir blaster. Cube is not like a stick. It sits any where and hdmi cable connects it to the avr etc. It's from Amazon so pretty sure it's returnable.

@@TJ.85 I'm not sure how this is clickbait.. This remote offers WAY more than the Harmony Elite does. As shared in the video, this is very promising if they can get the App much more user friendly. I'm still waiting for the YIO Remote 2 as I believe it has the most potential to exceed well beyond the Harmony Elite. As Jeremy mentioned, there simply are not a lot of options at this point. Keep in mind, I'm the one having to work through the frustrations of these remotes to see if any of these remotes will be able to replace the Harmony. How many other content creators are doing the same?

I can't believe the universal remote market is so... ...pathetic. There used to be a multitude of options, and it seems that has dwindled to ...one? on a good day? I jumped on the NEEO just a little late in the game, right before they sold to Control4. Even if I were rich, no way I would pay to subscribe to an opaque outsourced service I have to call to change a simple button press. Other than the need to constantly add new devices, it seems like a pretty basic and "universally" needed item. Especially in the age of IFTT and everything connected, how is one decent universal remote such a big ask?

7:50 Wow! That app needs a lot of work. The remote looks totally white with barely amount of contrast between the white background and the buttons. Plus, what's those two buttons to the right after the cut-off text? It seems like you are an alpha tester as if the app is still in development and is not in a final release. Sure, software does have bugs but a release like that is inexcusable. I'm visually impaired and I look for contrast issues myself. 11:30 A bright button (#76d2bc, more like the green/blue mix of bright colors) against a white text (#ffffff) has a contrast ratio of 1.79. They should use a black text against a light background or white text against a dark background. Bad for someone with visual impairment such as myself. 13:33 Seriously! That app should NEVER have been released! I laughed at that error message! C'mon devs. Get your act together with language translations. I'll take a Yio Remote instead. I'm not sure if the remote is available to the public. Never mind the price. I'll take that for my privacy over the cloud.

That looks terrible. Doesn’t seem you’ve found a good alternative yet. Eagerly awaiting someone to outright copy the harmony

this looks terrible. god harmony did a fantastic job and we all underestimated just how awesome the package they presented was.

That looks so much worse than a Harmony. So awkward.

Never been first before

In this modern age of simple and easy to use low cost automation using wifi/rf enabled switches, ir blasters these kind of remotes are obsolete. Either we can use a remote app in the phone or alexa thy can be controlled using a single command. All equipments and the electricals can be controlled with a single command or a touch of a button.
