Here is the thing. I've got my first harmonica bout 10 days ago. And watching many teachers all this days... All of them teach some sort of train.... But somehow... I knew when i find the Will Wilde train lesson... It for sure would be the best.... And here we are... I was right. 😂 Thanks a lot Will !

I remember when I was a kid and the Cream Wheels of fire album came out. Traintime was one of the first songs I learned to play.

Will. All your tutorials/lessons/signature licks, (your body of work as a whole is outstanding). To my rudimentary understanding of music, and way of thinking, I feel that this tutorial on chugging is really one of your most important, because it's a teaching of one of the keystone foundational techniques in harmonica playing. From this chugging foundation you open the door to learning, developing rhythmic breathing patterns, which also opens the door to learning the techniques of maintaining our air balance, and learning to use our diaphragm so as to enable us to maintain a proper rhythm pattern. I've only been playing the harp for 4 years, but I find that often going back to practice chugging, with single notes and different rhythm patterns advances my playing as much, and at times more so than learning a more complex piece of music. So 3 cheers to you for laying this lesson out there, and exhibiting that foundational pieces have an important role to play. Lastly, since you asked about some music ideas I would appreciate some John Lee Williamson (Sonny Boy 1), such as "Sloppy Drunk Blues", or some signature licks of his. Your tutorial on "Good Morning Little School" is awesome, and thanks for doing that.

Will Wilde. How about this idea for a tutorial idea : William Clarke's " Pawnshop Bound ". This would be awesome ! ! Just to even hear you play this tune with your harmonica abilities would be spectacular ! ! What a tutorial it would be. Maybe it would be a good one for a "Wilde tuned " harmonica ?

Awesome video lesson! I love chugging and have been looking for something like this to work on in my playing. Just ordered one of your Wilde tuned harps in A, can't wait to get it in! I know there are a million lessons on bends, but would you consider doing a video on getting clean, articulate bends specifically?

I both love and hate your videos, it's sickening how good you are on the tin Sandwich. Did you spend a lot of time building up speed with a metronome when you were beginning?

Lovin’ it. I like the Sonny Terry technique as well. I use “I could eat a chicken tikka” and repeat it quite a lot but I could do with some ideas for more intermediates to see what kind of licks/ phrases that go well with the chugging chords.

Thanks Les. Check out my video "Sonny Terry Signature Licks" for some licks to go with this. Any blues scale or major pentatonic licks will work though.

Great video Will. This is the first one if yours I have watched and I am now subscribed. I have practicing this for a few days now and I have been having trouble with regulating my breath as most of this is on a draw I got seem to release on the blow. I try to blow and draw from the diaphragm whilst playing but I just end up inflating. I really like your teaching style so do you have a video on breathing techniques? Keep up the great content, I'll be watching it out for more lessons

Another thing you can do is open your mouth more when playing the blow notes to let more air leak out as you’re playing them. That helps get rid of more air when it’s mostly draw notes.

Will. How do you go so fast and not over inflate your lungs with so many draw notes?

I breath out through my nose as well when I find this happening.

I prefer to say: "mudder fudder", but my mom gets angry whenever I do that...

very nice, would you suggest lip percing or tongue blocking to play single holes?

I would start with lip pursing, but I would reccomend learning tongue block too eventually, both have their uses.

Hi Will! I was just thinking about you and your video popped up! :) lol! I was just practicing and trying to figure out how far my lips need to be pursed out for good tone on the harmonica. I noticed that you don't go out very far, which is the way I have been doing it, but I was wondering if I needed to strengthen to purse out like a gorilla...lol! I have thinner lips and a smaller mouth, and have heard that the harmonica needs to be deep in the mouth for good tone...so I was trying to figure all this out? I play clear notes when I play normally, but when I really purse like a gorilla, lol, then it feels like a new learning process to get clear notes. So I was wondering if I have to strengthen my mouth to purse out like a gorilla.? It is rather funny, but I was actually hoping for some clarification here. :)

Hi Mary Beth, it's important that there shouldn't be any tension in the lips, they should stay soft and relaxed. When you pucker, it is literally like puckering to give someone a kiss... The inner wet part of the lip should be in contact with the cover plates to give you a good seal around rhe harp and allow you to slide easily. I hope that helps.

LOL! I really appreciate your help Will! And this is a great video you did! I got my "A" harmonica from you a few days ago and going to check it out today.
