Why get a horse , when you have a freaking harley
Gotta love the shovel stumble, awesome
I never realized just how much people reflect on and appriciate engine sounds. Such an easily overlooked quality of a machine. It is the soul of the vehicle.
I grew up with a lot of these. Depending on the Carb, tuning, cam and pipes makes a big difference. Shovelheads are great. Panheads are great. You left out the good old 1000 ironhead sportster though. Probably the best sounding engine ever from idle to full throttle. Cool video though.
Shovel: gotta dunt dunt, gotta dunt dunt, gotta dunt dunt, gotta dunt dunt...

I currently own a pan, genny shovel, s&s evo, and a m8, the shovel or evo are by far the best motors I've ever owned. M8 is the worst to date. I'm eventually going to cave and buy a sporty evo 1200 and make it my daily. 😑

Love the sound of all of them.
That's so cool that even back in the day, it still sounded like a Harley

Panhead ever ! ❤️ You dont need more of that
I have a Low Rider S. Going with 2500rpm on the street it is like meditation. No other bike than Harley can make this sound.
as far as bikes go, nothing sounds as sweet as a tuned Shovelhead.
Panhead seems to be what I hear when I watch Sons of Anarchy and Mayans MC. 😎
Panhead 1948-1965 Super thumping 👌💪
Herrlich 👏🏻 Danke für den Geschichtsunterricht 😃
Panheads are #1
My 103 twin cam with Freedom Declaration Turnouts sounds fat and loud, does it for me big time 😎

I like cruisers but can't figure out what's up with the UNBEARABLY LOW idle speeds.... It makes it sound so weak. It really gives me the the impression of an engine that barely runs

Closing my eyes and listen to the Evolution i must think of monty python and the holy grail.
Amazing video! Thanks!
That’s an awesome way to remember the sounds, thanks, galloping horses! So cool! Not quite sure what it is but the sound of just about any Harley just makes my heart so happy. Probably the galloping horses sound.
Shovel and Evo! My first Harley when I was in highschool was an 83 fxr with a S and S Emodel and an Andrews cam boy did it sound sweet!!! Now I'm an old man and ride a M8 that sounds like a BMW!!! LOL
missed the best motor of all man, the shovel pan from 1966 till 69

I enjoyed this very much. You missed the ww2 military horizontal twin. Thanks. The evo is my fave.
Evolution motor sounds the best and is the most reliable engine HD has ever made. The evolution sporster motor is probably more reliable than the big twin evo motor of those two.
Nothing compares to the sound of a Harley. Sewing machines are nice and all, but this is what a motorcycle should sound like.
The intro of the engine sound before they showed and sound of the 1903 single cylinder was I believe a V-Twin board track racer that was running on alcohol.
They all sound just great. Thank you for posting. I may be alone, but that EVO had the most distinctive, potato-potato-potato sound. Came to the same conclusion on another video similar to this one. But they're all legendary in one way or another.
music to my ears!
A straight piped pan is my favorite.
How in the hell did you leave out the Ironhead Sportster? The original Harley superbike.
Perfekt Sound 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Shovelhead. '66 - forever...... -Joe
I had a 42 "45" Flat Head back in 56 that I thought sounded good. But you can not beat the sound of a shovel. I had an 84 Iron Head Sportster that sounded good also. And my 99 carbed EVO sounds really good. I have a switch to cut out the VOES switch at idle which makes it real close to a shovel. That cuts the timing back at idle which also drops the rpm about 400.
LOVE the SHOVELHEAD!
Ironheads have an iconic sound, I wish they were included in the video
My dad had a shovelhead back when he was like 19
Shovel head is the best sounding one of all time but I do have a twin cam and it’s a close second
