Harley Pan America First Ride Adventure Road Trip Through Utah's National Parks

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Greg from Grand Teton Harley-Davidson takes an epic road trip on the Pan America with his buddy Steve to Arches and Canyonlands National Park. Harley's new adventure bike handled everything that the unforgiving southern Utah terrain could throw at it and Greg was impressed with all the useful features and accessories on the bike. Steve currently rides a BMW GS but is the first customer at Grand Teton Harley to put in an order for a new Pan Am. He is very excited to get his new adventure bike in the coming weeks. Make sure you stay tuned to our channel for more Pan America Content.

    I haven't seen a single test in wet terrain, stream crossings, and mud. Only deserts. Very interesting that all the tests have been in very very dry desert conditions. I can't wait see Ryan F9 test the bike in Canada. He has access the most beautiful trails in the world.

    This is the first Harley-Davidson motorcycle that I have ever considered. Harley needs to put that motor in other platforms they need a true sport bike now they have the motor and have proved they have the engineering staff that can do it.

    Couldn't agree more. This engine should be the basis of so many bikes, in addition to the existing Harleys. Imagine a 150hp naked v-twin street bike with great brakes, suspension and cornering ability. Perfect

    Some questions for you: I see you opted to use the hard luggage versus the soft bags, but yet you were doing some off-road. Where you not worried about dropping the bike? How do you think it would hold up to a light drop? You mentioned a video about the soft luggage is coming. Looking forward to that.

    The hard luggage should be able to handle certain types of drops. If riding primarily off-road, we would recommend soft bags.

    The Anakee Wild tires do well on the highway for a 50/50 tire. They are a radial tire. They will wear out quicker than the stock tires though.

    Enjoyed the video! I’ve got a question regarding the top case mounting plate and top case that is shown on the PA in the video. I installed the top case mounting plate on my PA and am waiting on the arrival of my top case. After installation, am curious about the design of the sliders side to side movement of the top case mount. What is the purpose of the side to side movement, about 1/2 inch. I posed that question to Harley on the PA accessory’s webpage. The answer was ask your dealer. They don’t know. After your experience with the bike and the accessories what do you think the reason is for the sliders and side to side movement? Does it lock in place when the top case is installed? Thanks! Found the answer. A factory Harley parts and accessory technician described the movement of the top case base plate to provide a better center of gravity for a PA with the top case during cornering.

    It’s for stability at higher speeds, balance the wind harmonics and not get a tank slapper. Similar concept to why bridges and tall, steel buildings have to flex.

    If SW-Motec has their regular hard cases in stock, they *should* fit. You can also mount a Givi rack and cases, or just go with soft bags that have universal mounts.

    Pan American looks like it's gonna be a real winner for Harley. What about some "crash guard" accessories for a bike that will get dropped? Maybe like a bolt on/bolt off crash bar one can put on if they know they're going to be doing some serious off-roading. Something similar to the bagger crash bar. Wouldn't want to be out in the middle of nowhere and have the handlebars and controls damage from a drop.

  • @bob_wilcox

    @bob_wilcox

    3 жыл бұрын

    The Special model comes with crash bars that cover each side of the radiator. I laid my Pan American over on the left side a couple times in the dirt and the bar protected the radiator and engine. There were a few scratches on the bar and left hand guard. I highly recommend getting the bars on the s!tandard model. A protection bar is also available for the exhaust pipe. If the bike goes over on the right side without the protection more, the exhaust will likely be scratched or damaged. I’ve got one ordered, they are on back order.

  • @jaronard1

    @jaronard1

    3 жыл бұрын

    Add hand guards with an aluminum bar. Those plastic only ones won’t last more than a drop or two, plus the aluminum actually protects your hand (the actual intended purpose). Bark Busters is the most common after market, and I’m pretty sure they OEM most of the bike brands’ in house hand guards.

    Hi Greg collect mine this week in the UK. Mention has been made about your leg getting hot from the exhaust. Whats your opinion and do you think the side stand is strong enough or do you think I should buy a Big Foot for it. Its a piece of equipment that broadens the side stand foot. Not even sure if they sell one yet for them. Great video as well. Ted

    There is definitely some heat from the exhaust in certain environments. Some people have been wrapping the exhaust with some heat shield tape. I don't really notice the heat if I'm wearing ADV style boots. I plan to purchase a "Big Foot" for the side stand. The stock stand is strong enough, but I like the added breadth of a bigger side stand foot. Congrats on the purchase!

  • @leoncelestinedave

    @leoncelestinedave

    Unless it's deep sand, it's not recommended to reduce the tire pressure on the heavier adv's. It's different for a dual sport where one does reduce the air. The bigger bikes it's not recommended purely because you will increase the chances of bending your rim.

    Arghhh! NO ONE is reviewing the stock Pan America. You all either have Specials or with the upgrades and options. I REALLY hate the reviews that mention the stock bike price when they have reviewed the Special, with bells and whistles, making it a $4K more expensive bike. Your review stayed away from that, thank you, but I really wish reviews with mods would list off what is an upgrade and approx cost, rather than rocking laced tires and knobbies and never mentioning its NOT stock, rocking a bash plate, etc. From the few people I know who have bought the stock Pan America, we'll be seeing a bunch for sale this fall. It wasn't what people thought they were getting and now feel the KTM is the more "Honest" bike and will spend their money in that direction on 1290s Super Adventure R. I think Harley killed themselves when they made the stock bike with Mag/alloys rather than laced. The mag wheel shouldn't exist. You try top enter Adventure market but make a laundry list of upgrades for it to be dirt worthy. Crash bars, Skid plates, radiator and headlight guards, laced wheels with 40/60 or 50/50 stock is the way Harley should have gone with as the "Stock" bike.
