Harley Ingleby Thunderbolt Mid 6 Surfboard Review

Спорт

In this episode, I review Harley Ingleby Mid 6. It's considered as the World's Best Performance Mid Length by Firewire. I've got a chance to demo this board @bravesurf Brave New World Surf & Snow Surf Shop that is located in Point Pleasant, New Jersey.
The board has a lot of potential to handle very easy 4-6+ ft waves. That's when I would only take it out surfing. I wish there was a 6'8" version with less volume which would likely allow me to force it on smaller waves. The 7'0" Mid6 felt kind of big for me.
I was able to get this board going in small 1-2 ft beach break but I was struggling to turn and also generate any speed. This board just needs bigger wave to show it's performance. That’s all.
Board dimensions: 7'0 x 20 1/2 x 2 5/8 at 40.3L
My Height: 5’9” or 175.3 cm
My Weight: 165 lbs. or 75 kg
You can contact @bravesurf surf shop www.bravesurf.com and ask if you could demo this board.

I have had a SSB 7'4", Sunday 7' 3", Moe in 2 sizes 7'4" and 8', and Mid 7'6". I am 52 205 lbs and surfing in Virginia Beach and OBX. Here's my take. The SSB is a good board but it was fickle to me, I would really like it and then not like. With a wetsuit it was not a great paddler. I like the 7'3 Sunday better - more liters easier paddler and has a loose yet drivey feel set up as a twin - I kept the Sunday it really is a different board that has a unique feel to it. The Moe's are really good. I have ridden the 8ft Moe in thigh to 2 ft over head and they are really confident boards. They require pumping and are not glidey which i like to a degree coming from a shortboard background. The mid paddles way better than i thought it would given the 47 liters and agressive rocker. I like the mid and you dont need overhead waves to ride it. I have ridden it in waist to shoulder low tide dumpy waves with some push and it goes just fine - great at later drops. In summer time weak knee to waist the Sunday all day. The mid needs a little push to the wavs like in Hatteras, but not a big wave. I am on the fence about keeping the mid jut because this summer has been so weak that I am really only riding my Sunday and minisimmons in VB. Septmber and October should have some swell and the mid will get some use. I also has a 6' Seaside and i felt like that was one of the most electric boards that I have ever ridden unfortunately i needed a waist high wave to really enjoy it. In my opinion for East Coast - 7'2" Moe would be a good all rounder that could handle some size as well. 8'0 moe is a hyper responsive HP longboard that can be ridden in small and larger waves - downside not a ton of glide. as far as glide the Vernor tree hugger is a great board - glides in easy and durability is second to none. keep in mind this is just my opinion - hope this helps.

Got my hands on a 7' Outlier and Akronaut is right. That board crushes knee to waist high east coast summer surf - very fast - wants into waves with lots of projection down the line. One of the most fun boards that I have ever ridden and I have ridden alot. Turns well too for what it is. It has me selling my 7' RC Mini Me and maybe my Sunday. For small summer waves it is really special.

Yuri, you tried out a handful of mid-lengths…SS&B, Sunday, CI mid etc…How does the Mid 6 compare?

  • @SkipperSurfReview

    @SkipperSurfReview

Hey Richie, It's definitely made for big solid waves.. 4ft+ with power. It will handle steeper/bowly beach break waves way better than Sunday or SS&B if we take them all in size 7'0". CI Mid would feel different because it's a 2+1... You will draw different lines with way more glide. On solid big day I would prefer PU CI Mid/CI Mid Twin/ Album Moonstone or Mid6... Again, it all depends on the personal preferences, like if you like Quads or 2+1 / Single fin or Twins (we can include Album Surfboards such as Moonstone or Plasmic) to the list🤩 There is only one drawback why I wouldn't buy Mid6 for myself is because I won't be able to enjoy it in small waves. We don't get 3-4 ft days often out here.. If I lived on the coast with more consistent surf, I would def consider it! Cheers!

This looks less like a groveler and more like a board to take out in good waves for the second session of the day when your arms are smoked from surfing a short board earlier.

You have to try the CJ Nelson Outlier 2+1 7'. Hands down the best Midlenth for shoulder and below waves I have ever rode. It turns better than the Seaside and Beyond and whips around on cut backs like a performance board surprisingly. I think the mid 6 / Moe are designed for pumping 4'+ surf and would struggle in East Coast wind slop

@@charleshawk6668 Do it! I'm finally getting it dialed after a few sessions but prob the easiest board ive ever rode. Its just simple anddoes whatever you want it to do. Rode it in 2-3 wind swell and shoulder high point breaks & it goes insane. Tried it on overhead San O during the swell and I think thats its limit lol. Too fast, too furious.

That board wasn't made for small beach break waves, you need to try it when it's at least 5-6 foot. That's why i switched to the moe 7.2 which is brilliant in small waves as well as bigger over head

CI Mid would feel different because it's a 2+1... You will draw different lines with way more glide. I personally would prefer to get 7’0 ci mid over mid6 for better flex , glide and ability to work in smaller waves better IMO as a single fin😁 its just personal preference. The mid6 definitely needs a bigger waves to come alive🤘🏼

It is great you are sharing your experiences, but this review - your local conditions - doesn't really show the board's utility. If you want a firewire thunderbolt mid, you would be better with a 2+1 Outlier or a Moe Your better reviews are when you ride boards suited for East coast slop

Well it's not going real good in 1-2 foot slop. Sure you can see it has potential. The channels help. No reviewers are saying if it's epoxy, PU or whatever. It's WAY too expensive down in Australia too. No-one is going to pay $1700-$1800 for a surfboard which only a standby maybe anyway.

$1700 isn't that bad. I've had mine for a long time & abused the bejeezus out of it & it's still A1. Worth every cent, if you're serious about surfing you'd never have a single board quiver. That's just dumb.
