HARLEY FRONT PULLEY SPROCKET REMOVAL SPORTSTER

You will need a 1 7/8" socket to remove this nut. On big twins it is a special tool that is long enough to go over the main shaft and comes with a support. For sportsters you just need the big socket. More than likely it will be a 3/4" drive so you will need and adapter for 1/2" to 3/4" drive. Just remember that this nut on big twin and sportsters is left hand thread, so you need to turn it to the right to tget it off.
You will need to remove the 2 1/4" Allen bolts with a 3/116" Allen socket securing the nut lock plate to the pulley. Later model big twins use a right hand thread nut on the pulley, that would be on later model twin cams and it is also a different size nut than earlier model.
Changing from the stock 29 tooth pulley to the 27 tooth pulley from an 883 to get better off the line acceleration.
Stock 1200 ratio for final drive is 2.35:1
Using the 27 tooth 883 pulley changes the ratio to 2.52:1
Basically it will harder off the line but will also carry more rpm at speed. So, it is pulling more rpm at speed.

I just came across your video which makes sense because I watch a lot of videos on mechanical repairs. Funny thing is I couldn't believe my ears as you sound exactly like my cousin who lives near the Appalachian Mountains in Pennsylvania. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you are from that area, round about.

Easy to work on, would be an appropriate response. They are easy. They are similar. The price of Sportsters right now keeps getting lower and lower. I mean real low-mileage bikes. Best of luck on getting back into it. Just remember this, if you aren't comfortable riding around, it ain't very enjoyable. Thanks for watching.
