Harley-Davidson Street 500 Test Ride | The Gateway to H-D Ownership!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I recently took a test ride on Harley's new learner-legal machine, the Street 500. I wanted to see whether a brand new rider could start on one and whether it's got enough street cred to mix it with it's bigger brothers.
Ok, so it's not perfect but it's also really affordable compared to it's bigger bros. There were a few things that I didn't like but most of them are pretty easily fixed. If you're a beginner rider and looking for a sweet cruiser, I reckon this is definitely worth a test!

Great review!!! As i'm just starting out as an older rider, this review helped me tip the scales and deiced to go purchase the 2017 model yesterday. Also got them to change the exhaust with a Vance & Hines Competition slip on... Gives it that more Harley sound. Cheers!

Mate I've owned my street 500 for a while now and it's the best thing I've been on. I spent so much time trying out bikes from the Honda vt400 to the Yamaha v star 650 and the volcan s and many more but all of them lacks one thing its just not a Harley and what the street 500 brings to me is that feeling of when I was a kid seeing a big Harley rolling down the street you wished you was him. But all so the Community of joining with the Harley owners group "HOG"s you make life time friends and that's what Harley's are about Ride it every day and hang with your friends. Oh and mine is fully worked motor and Vanicen Heinz and it's the best sound you can get without spending to much money if you ever want to ride with the Sydney hogs come down to Harley heaven on the first Tuesday night of the month and join up Stay safe and stay up

Hello from the US. Very good honest review. I recently bought the Street 750 and I love it. This is my first Harley. I've been riding sport bikes and dual sport bikes for some 35 year and I adapted to the 750 really quickly. Harley made it very easy to take the stock muffler apart, so I did and modified the baffle a little.....sounds much better now but still not too loud. Anyway, thanks for the wonderful review . Yes, you are correct, the US versions are built in Kansas City, but I would have still bought it if mine was built in India.

Hey, great review. I intended to buy this bike after seeing your review. When I got to the dealership the sales guy said, "What about the Street Rod? It's a much better bike." So I test rode the Street Rod and bought it without hesitation. I love the aggressive looks and sporty performance. The engine is quiet, but since it has cam chains instead of push rods it's understandable.

Thanks mate! Yeah it'll be fine on the highway... you won't be doing fast overtaking but there's enough power to cruise and some overtaking. If you're going to do it a lot you might want to get a little fairing as well to make the wind a bit less intense...

I'm an older(58)first time rider. I like the Street 500 & 750 MC's. At 5'8" tall, I think they'd be just the right height and "oomph" for a first, and, starter bike. I believer after '18 they were built in St. Louis, Missouri's plant. I'll be looking at a 2019 or 2020 model myself. After that, I go for the 883 model. Doug🏍️🤓👍🧸😁

I had a look at the Street 500 for my P's and it was too small and under powered for me. I ended up getting a Hyosung GV650 and it was a lot more bike for my money (twin front calipers for starters). Also unlike the Harley parts for the GV650 are insanely cheap and simple to replace. Also for me a 5'11 foot rider the GV650 had a long and short peg option and in long mode is was right on the money.

+TheGto389 I am under the impression that it was a bike intended for the Indian market. In order to get the price down, they needed to make them over there. The overflow is then shipped over to us here in Canada/ the states. I don't think they manufacture the bikes here.

Was thinking about upgrading, was looking into KTM 390s and CFMoto 650NKs, maybe the Yamaha R3 (though i never have liked super sports) then i seen this, 3k more but its fucking beautiful. Honestly might have to think how urgent of an upgrade I'm in for because i think this might be worth waiting and saving for. Shame its made in India but so's the KTM i was looking at and the CFMoto is Chinese built so its in the same boat. Quality Bikes for the Price but still noticeably Cheaper Quality.

I have noticed a lot of second hand street five hundreds lately. I could not bring myself to buy a five hundred Harley it don't look like a Harley and it don't sound like Harley. shop around and get better value but the choice as always is yours to make. But will we see another second hand street five hundred for sale in a few months. work out what type of riding you would be doing most and other factors that are important to you like reliability performance handling and style also cost, weigh these factors up then you will have a more informed view of the motorcycle you need. and good luck to sir

really informational video, enjoyed watching it, I have bought this bike two years ago, it was my first bike, very good experience, it has high clearance, very comfortable in city, not that good for highways. I have changed grips and mirrors and it became much better to drive. My bike has one issue - it has kinda "limit" while in first or second gear, after 3-rd it goes smoothly, I was told that it was test bike, therefore it had this restriction. does anyone know any other explanation?

As long as the rider/owner is cool with it. it's just that, being on a Learner's, knowing that I could ride a h-d , I was like "ohh, d*mn I'll be able to ride a H-D?", but when I saw some vids and your review about the street 500, it didn't quite lived up to my expectations.. Great review tho! keep it up! keep safe! 👍

I was excited about the motorcycle when I first heard about it, but it was a huge disappointment. It's cheaply built out of cheap parts while costing more than it should. A MT07 is a much better motorcycle for around the same price.

Don't get me wrong guys its a good little bike and probably rides just fine but it is way overpriced if it was a Honda or a kwaka or yammy it would not sell at all. The only thing selling this model is the brand name and to me that does not warrant the price the dealers are asking for it . Ask the dealer why you should shell out the extra bucks for this bike over the competitor's bikes and see what they say and see if he can show you all the extra Quality or features it has. It actually has less ask him about the extra power it has over the other bikes again he will say I don't know ( it does not have more torque or power) but I will guess mr dealer wont be pinned down with that question. My guess is the dealer will avoid that question altogether and probably say BUT MAAAAAAATE ITS A HARLEYYYYY.

  • @masterwu1162

    @masterwu1162

    7 жыл бұрын

don't know the exact stats of the street 500 but I would be surprised if it was better than the metrics. The yammy Vstar 650 is learner legal and nearly 2 grand cheaper than the baby hoglet that's a whole lot of cash for upgrades helmets or whatever. The Kwaka ER 6nl is only a couple of hundred cheaper than the baby hoglet but you do get a bloody lot of bike for your buck with the Kwaka. Suzuki also has bikes like the baby boulevard C40 thumper way cheaper and perfect if your after that classically cruiser style bike. its not hard to find a great deal my friend now go test ride some bikes and judge for yourself what bikes you really prefer to lay your hard earned money down on. I just don't see much value in the baby hog liquid cooled sure is a good thing but the metric bikes have been doing that for years and most of the other bikes have ABS as well and come fully loaded with extra goodies to make your road time safer and more fun. Me I like all bikes and yep Harleys too but my Honda never lets me down. My advice to you for what its worth is buy your Harley after you have your full licence and then buy a sporty only three grand more than the street 500 or one of the other more desirable models they will hold there resale value a lot better when you decide to sell.

I see, thanks! What about modification? One of the things that makes this a good bike, at least on my opinion, is the amount of modifications that can be made. Not officially by Harley though but it's a great way too add those personal touches.

I totally agree mods are a great way to personalise your ride and make it your own but it seems like you would be spending your money just to make the street 500 look and sound like a Harley. Harley should have done this already but they seem to have taken a cheaper approach with this bike. Now wip over to our friends Yamahas website and then check out the Vstar a Classic cruiser I think the yammy and the new baby vulcan look way better than the street 500. That's just my opinion though and if your already convinced the street is what you want so be it. Nearly eleven grand before you start spending a cent on it and you know Harley wont miss your wallet when you start to talk mods. a handlebar change to say apes with the cables lengthened as my ridding buddy has done on his new Harley TWO GRAND and you can start to see what I mean. Of course you just have to change those pipes its a Harley and its gotta sound like one now your wallet is getting ridden harder than seabiscuit. Should I tell you now you could have brought that sporty and the sporty goes hard and screams HARLEY straight off. The street 500 looks like an old style jap bike from twenty years ago and what's with the ugly fork boots. My opinion on the street 500 is not to buy it there are way better bikes and deals around. If you don't mind spending your cash the street 500 would be a good base for a classic café racer styled bike I could live with it then otherwise I would buy one of the metrics and enjoy more options and the extra cash I did not have to shell out for the Harley.

Baby hoglet, that one is a keeper. Back in the 1970's we called them hardly ableson's And now they are just more expensive. When we went on rides everyone at least took a tow rope for those that ran out of oil before running out of gas. You could always tell a Harely was out of oil when it quit leaking. Ah! those were the days. s

ITs hard to shell out the extra thousands of dolleros for a very spartan bike like this when the yammy vstar will save you at least two grand has a bigger motor and looks like a cruiser and you get so much more from them but if you look at the competition the same is true with all the metric bikes. I cant understand why anyone would shell out so much money for this bike its not worth it all your buying is Harleys name save your cash people until you don't need a LAMS bike anymore then go Buy your Harley a real Harley not this pretender. Sounds like im bashin it and maybe I am a little all I can put it down to is the brand. You heard it in the vid people Listen to the sedate bland motor sound Yeah real Harley sounding isn't it NOT. If you don't like how it looks or sounds I am sure Mr Harley dealer would love to shear you of some more money to make it more Harley looking and sounding. Ever priced Harley parts kachinggggg $$$$$. But if you really want one head on down to the dealership but go into it with your eyes open people.

The sporty would be a better second bike bike a Vstar or shadow would be good starter bikes and if you bob them out just as tuff looking too. If you buy a metric bike you will have a lot more change in your pocket to add accessories or bob the bike for that way cool look. If you need any help just ask I love bobbing bikes its what I do.

As far as budget is concerned,...the V-Star 650 or Shadow 750 would probably be best to start on cruiser wise! Harleys are nice,...but very expensive! I was going to consider a sport bike, but backing out on that as a cruiser would be more comfortable for a 53 year old man anyway,..and I don't need a super "go fast" bike, either! The V-Star and Shadow would be better than the Street 500 as a first bike?

thats the most harleynian (fanboy) answer you could get. That and "oh, I bought one for my wife". And dont get me wrong I love harleys, I got myself a street 750 and btw its faster than the iron and the bolt so... suck on that air cooled fan boys... The bike is awesome, feels good, rides fast, the painting options are top notch and yes the price is spot on. Put a Bassani exhaust on her and DAMN, you get one heck of a street brawler with exquisite devilish/annoying roar. BUT alot of the harley owners are just morons, bashing the other brands and posing as real bad boys jajaja you know cus SOA histeria.
