I’m sorry but it was English motorcycle manufacturers, specifically Triumph motorcycles that created the tariff issue in the mid 50’s - not the Japanese. The Japanese imports started in the mid to late 60,s and really impacted in the 70,s. Also WWII ended in 1945. .
It was fun to watch man, thanks for the effort, its a great video!
Love these case studies. Also Tom is amazing!

Been a fan of Valuetainment for a few months now. This is the 1st case study I've watched. Man... love this! The history channel needs to hire you!!! I'd love to see one of the on FedEx! I've worked there for almost 20 years. It used to be my main job & I was able to step down to pursue my passions. My side hustle is now my main thing & my ol "j.o.b." Is now my side-hustle!

These videos make me ridiculously excited. Thank you Tom for making me realise what my passion is. Also, I'm a big BMW Motorrad fan, but this made me want to own a Harley one day.

Love the video Tom.
The one threat that HD may not be able to overcome is: demographics. Year to year sales are suffering as older bikers age out of the hobby, flooding the market with used bikes for middle age customers and US millenials showing a total lack of interest in HD (and a general lack of interest in motorcycles).

kcgunesq When I think of HD, I picture white retirement age males reliving their exciting hobby when they were in their 20-30 years of age. HD needs to expand its strategy because in the next 15 years or so, their main customer base will either be dead or in nursing homes.
Great presentation Tom as always!!

I listen to your videos while on my way to work and I finished watching Robin Hood video and I saw this in the suggestions. I clicked on it right after I saw some ambulances on the highway attending to a motorcycle accident and yes it was a Harley 😅
So now that you have done case study of Iconic Harley-Davidson. Would you please do a case study of Royal Enfiled, the Indian Harley-kind-of-Davidson😊
Oh my god I love Harley Davidsons.

I have a question: how come there are not many teachers like Tom in universities and schools? If every business school would have at least one or two case studies such as this one let say each week, those four damn years spent in the amphiteatres would be worth a whole lot more!

Kind of ironic how when entrepreneurship Channel says to check out and see if you have a Harley because you may never have to work another day in your life, entrepreneurs will get bored if they’re not working
If you are to build a brand, make sure customers associate your brand with something delightful

Everything that has been done post 1950s is why most people have a strong distaste for Harley Davidson. It's the motorcycle people who are too old to know they aren't considered cool anymore, wake everyone one up on the block with at 5am. Harley Davidson is the brand of overweight, wind burnt, impotent men over 40 across the US.

Syde Cycade Over 40? Based on where I live, the bulk of HD owners are 60+ I get annoyed when I am driving on a road and a HD biker is nearby because the noise level of the bike is unnecessary loud.
work with other companies to grow great a cult brand different listens to community expressive Tribal(customers protects them)
Moral of the story: create a brand that people will associate with fun and good stuff
Valuetainment will become a cult brand 😉

1954 ? I don't think Japan had much International Presence in 1954. British Bikes Ruled the World in that era.. Honda did not invade the USA until like 1963 or so .. I could find it on google I am sure..

What makes a cult brand? A cult brand is a brand with an extreme loyal customer-base in which the consumers visualise the brand as something more than just a product, but also as a life style where the brand becomes a piece of their everyday lives. Better stated, cult-brands sell an image as opposed to a product. People with a loyal following to these brands are drawn to such an idea through the desire of wanting to belong.
