    I agree! I prefer rounded edges on an S-style. But I could go for a bound if I like the looks and feel of a guitar. I've never seen myself as a purist or having a particular preference, I'm not just one guitar type player. I play Teles, Strats, PRS double cut, Yamaha Revstar, I've tried Les Pauls and other single cut, but I moved away from those. Turns out my main preference is single coils, leaning mostly towards the Strat. And I play pretty loud and heavy. Humbuckers tend to get a bit dark. Wide range humbuckers, though...

  • @michael1

    @michael1

    23 күн бұрын

    ? I don't get what he's saying at all - how can you palm mute by putting your hand on top of the bridge? I mean it's a floating bridge for one thing so you'd push the guitar out of tune. And where you pick changes the tone so everyone is picking at different places yeah? over the neck, back near the bridge and between the 2.

  • @Leo_ofRedKeep

    @Leo_ofRedKeep

    23 күн бұрын

    @@michael1 Palm muting can only be done this way and is done on all floating bridges without issues. It gives played notes a staccato effect. Muting with the palm is not palm muting and doesn't do the same thing: it mutes the strings that are not being played.

  • @JustSomeGuy

    @JustSomeGuy

    23 күн бұрын

    @@michael1 The Babicz bridge is slightly raised where the strings comes out of the saddles, so you can't rest your palm across that point. The problem is that's the sweet spot for palm muting.

  • @cameronfarrell9076

    @cameronfarrell9076

    11 күн бұрын

    @@michael1 you'd only push the guitar out of tune if you're not used to palm muting on a trem and you put a lot of unnecessary pressure on the bridge. I've owned Floyd rose tremolos since my first guitar so I'm used to resting my hand lightly. My mate tried to play my guitars once and he put so much pressure on them because he plays non trem bridges and puts a lot of pressure on the bridge. Honestly it's probably a really good thing to learn how to do regardless of bridge style, putting that much pressure that you'd push it out of tune can't be good for your hand or your technique

  • @michael1

    @michael1

    11 күн бұрын

    @@cameronfarrell9076 You don't need a lot of pressure to push a string out of tune. Even fretting a string can do this. Bending strings moves the bridge. It needs a reasonable amount of force to do a divebomb, but the slightest touch on the trem bar will change the pitch. Although you obviously have the advantage of a lever there I think if you observe more closely you'll see that you're altering the pitch if you rest your hand on the bridge because the bridge is moving. And I say look rather than hear deliberately because it's possible that your pitch sensitivity isn't high enough to notice small changes and that you can't tell by listening. Nevertheless others will be able to hear and it is happening.

    I am absolutely in love with those flamed necks! This is a smart move by HB because you don't see them on many low to mid-range priced models from other brands. This, paired with the modern features, might eventually make me put an HB next to my Krautster II at some point. Generally, there is too little talk about the look of guitar necks, in my opinion, because the neck is what you see the most while playing guitar, especially as an introverted guitarist like me 😅

    Found it very easy to adjust to Babicz trem bridges, probably caused by playing with a lively FR for some years, the more expensieve version of them are my absolute favorite, it has side locking. Thomann did not and probably still doesn’t have the 2 point version of those, had to order 2 recently via the distributor instead. As I did mention earlyer, the Wilkinson bridge on the Fusion III does not stay in tune with heavy trem usage even when clamped down for only dives, these do.

It`s funny that this is pretty much exactly what I did to my first guitar ever, a Yamaha Pacifica 112 from 2006, including the Babicz bridge, new hardware and Wilkinson instead of Tesla Pickups. I have a Harley Benton 550 with Teslas as well, so I know they sound great too. When I upgraded my Pacifica a few years ago, the Harley Bentons just switched from Wilkinson to something else I didn't really like. But the Tesla PUs are on par with Wilkinson again. Both PU brands don't have to shy away from the G"redacted" PUs in my LP ether and have a way better price to performance ratio. That pelham blue one is very tempting though, since my Pacifica is "only" candy apple red and I prefere blue. Maybe I have to give those a try. Thank you for the honest review as always, Henning! Edit: Oh and for everyone wondering how good the Babicz bridge is. I played guitars with Fender, Ibanez Japan, Duesenberg, Bigsby, as well as PRS USA vibratos and except for the Duesenberg, this is my favorite by far. It stays in tune exceptionally well, even when I don't play the Pacifica for weeks (shame on me ^^"). It also manages tuning to drop D well without having to retune the other strings and yes, I have no problems palm muting with it. :D

    Regarding the price of the parts one must also consider that being "featured" in such HB guitars now is actually a pretty good advertisement for the manufacturer.

    The best part of this guitar are the ST-Modern with the rounded neckcap and the Babicz 2 point tremolo for that cheap price....

    How about a satin finished SC550 or a really thin urethane top coat it makes them look more classy. Also Harley Benton need to do an SC550 custom model with high end appointments to compete with the revitalised Epiphones.

    I hope they will make a line of basses like that.

    They look awesome. Weird though that there's two different versions in terms of jack placement and body contours, but the difference isn't acknowledged by a name qualifier even on the HB website. Looks like it's determined by which color you chose. I think I'm finally found a budget strat I unambiguously want.

    I'm normally a more or less classic Strat guy (he says with his main guitar being an HSH Strat...), but from these two, the more "modern" one actually looks better to me, to the point where I'm genuinely tempted. I don't even mind the headstock shape which is something I'm normally unreasonably anal about. Also I would love to see the warehouse visit, but at the same time, it's a bit entitled to ask for that when it means driving long hours and spending an entire day on it (and then likely even more time in editing). And on that note, thank you for working on Sundays (from a fellow freelancer that also regularly works on Sundays ;) ).
