I remember when I was small ,whenever we had function,we were served in pattal,water in kullad,people would serve..no eating standing from buffet...

Nostalgia hit me hard, used to visit Haridwar every year with my grandparents , used to eat it the similar mashed daal and chole ka paani , at Kankhal chowk , have travelled different parts of the world but the Divinity of Haridwar and its food has always stayed with me...Har Har Gange

I lived in Jawalpur for initial 18 years of my life, my dad was posted there in railways. seeing this video reminded me of my childhood and teens days. so so happy to see that malu leaves are still used and our locals have not moved on to plastic or thermocol plates

I am originally from Jwalapur, Haridwar. The "Surja ki Daal" is a legend in itself, it is a lost art form. The legend has it that generations back, during british colonial era, Surja's mother used to cook this Moong Daal in large earthen pots, transforming it completely into sth out of this world. What these people are eating today is not even 50% of it, the real magic was with their father Surja and his mother. No matter how hard you try, you cant make this moong daal at home! i dare you to try that! I have heard stories about it from my grandfather and other ancestors. FYI, near the place where he is sitting, there is a very narrow street known as "Doli Khaal", it is believed to be haunted by the ghost of Surja's daughter. People still avoid taking that street at late night or on empty summer noons, people have experienced weird things happening there. Jwalapur is amazing! small very old town full of food, ancient mysteries, crowded markets, old houses, folk tales etc. I like taking early morning walks in chilly winters around the town, walking by the side of large ganga canal that runs besides the town, having tea and pakora on the small stalls :D :) :P
