Thanks for video, red cordylines got decimated here in midlands during the cold this winter!

Hi Nick. Yes Cordylines didn’t do well this year But this winter was colder than an average U.K. winter. It’s always difficult doing a video on hardy plants as theirs so many varying factors. Especially when it’s prolonged Cold where the plants don’t get to recover.
Great video. Thank you for listing the plants.

Hi and thank you. It can be very addictive. Every year I think I’ve just about got all the plants I need and then a new season comes and I find new things to add. I suppose that’s what keeps it so interesting. Appreciate the comment. Cheers
Enjoying your videos

Thanks so much for sharing all these plants and great to know they should be ok for me in Essex. I’m definitely going to look out for them this year. 😊

Thank You. I’m probably going to do another video on tropical evergreens very soon Especially after this very cold winter where people have had so many plant losses.

@@tikitropicals65 I lost a Yukka Jewel I only planted at the end of the summer (my fault, I should have fleeced it I suspect 😝) but apart from that I didn’t do too bad. Unusual for us to get snow, let alone for it to stick around for a whole week. Still, always learning!!

Hi. To be honest fleece probably wouldn’t have helped as Yucca Jewel isn’t very hardy.

Great video. It's like you have your own nursery with all those potted plants. I would add one clarification though. Magnolia grandiflora is highly variable so you need to pay attention which cultivar you are going to purchase. If its a standard wild type tree, they grow enormous. 60-80 feet and sometimes taller, and up to 50' wide. Smaller varieties include Little gem, Kay Perris and Teddy Bear which are some of the most commonly found ones.

Thank you. That’s a good point about the Magnolia Grandiflora. Sometimes I forget that the videos reach a wider audience than just the U.K. Over here they don’t tend to name the cultivars and they are nearly always a slow growing variety. I appreciate the feedback though.

@@tikitropicals65 I haven't seen many examples in videos from the UK. Some of the nurseries by me will have 6 or more different varieties so you really need to pay attention to what you're buying. I have three different smaller cultivars in my garden - Little Gem, Kay Perris and Victoria. Also I had no idea that Pittosporum got that large!
The small pink phormium looks like Evening Glow to me.

You may very well be correct it’s looks similar.
Appreciate the info on what areas the plants like & subscribed. I don’t have a tropical garden but enjoy my potted tropicals on the patio. Anything you would suggest for north facing & evergreen & potted ?

Hi and thank you. If it was in the ground I would have suggested Fatsia or Schefflera but in a pot I would probably go for a large leaved Rhododendron For me my soil isn’t acidic so in a pot it would give me an opportunity to grow something I normally wouldn’t by adding ericaceous soil.
What is the large green cascading lime green plant behind all the ones you were showing us?

Hi. I think you are referring to Phormium Yellow Wave.
Beautiful garden. Can I ask where you are situated. I would like to have quite a few of the plants in my garden but it's pretty wet in winter and dry in summer, and wouldn't want to lose them. Thank you 👍

Hi and thank you. My garden is in Peterborough which is in Cambridgeshire. U.K. Most of the U.K. is wet in winter it depends if your soil is free draining or not. If it gets waterlogged then you may have to try raised beds to help with drainage.

@@tikitropicals65Excellent! Just started the tropical garden a year ago and I'm in Crowland so if it grows for you, it will for me! Also, I've got a Catalpa bignonioides (Indian Bean Tree) which looks great with it's big leaves and sheltered behind a Viburnum but in front of the fence, the Tetrapanax Rex

@@leestockton9367yeah your not far from me. Most of these plants are also growing in a family member’s garden near Newborough which is a bit more exposed than mine. Micro climates are important as well and drainage. Cheers

Hi. I only had - 5 Celsius so I was very lucky. The only plant that I lost in my garden was a Brahea Armata. I’ve done a few videos documenting my garden through winter. This past winter was a bad one and did a lot of damage in some areas. Sorry to here about the plants you lost. Did you protect anything?
