Building insanely large aircraft is incredibly fun! It’s also affordable, approachable, and safe. In today’s episode, we show you three drastically different ways of taking on monster size builds without breaking the bank. Our dear friend and team member, Jason Mcquiston has built an 18 foot C-47 using simple materials that you can find at your local hardware store. This iconic World War II replica is less than 52 pounds and looks amazing. Question is, will it fly? Jason puts his beautiful build to the test and we join with him to bring back some of our monster DIY aircraft to fly with him. Hopefully today’s episode inspires you to not only enjoy the amazing world of flight, but also to dream big and build big!

This is a great video. One of the best use types, not only for the supplies and materials but the use of the 360 cams on such big birds that the WOW factor is really nice. Definitely more of this. Maybe fly all of the airworthy oddballs at one time. The tank was epic and a big machine.

Just something that you can really build on a budget and the motivation they had to get people into the hobby with cool and simple build projects and projects like the laser fights. The takeoff of the DC3 clearly showed lack of directional, and from a "likeliness" point of view it would not have gained any points from a jury. A pity, since from a distance the model makes a perfect show. With a plane THAT big you can add a real rudder and even working trimming tabs with liitle additional work. If you want to be cool and "millennial" add a gyro to the differential, at least the plane will take off straight along the runway.

@@andrewasdel4230 You know perfectly well that airfoils are only ONE of the problems in a model, and even so they are almost always misunderstood. A certain airfoil, NACA or else, has a meaning only in SOME size and conditions, some fluid density, some structural and elastic properties of the wing, some speeds, some Reynold's numbers. If you can project a NACA profile "corrected"for all the above factors, chapeau. If you can build a foambord wing witha THAT exact profile, double chapeau. Otherwise you fall on the usual "Clark-Y-ish" profile that is the Jack-of-all-trades of model planes wing profile. You have all the rights of being sophisticated in your models, but you must pay a high price in study, project time and building accuracy.

No offence, but your next to nothing is a lot different than mine... just the cost of the batteries make this very expensive to people in my budget range. So, while this is something achievable, I would not say it costs next to nothing... pretty rad though.
