He even had to hire a security guard because of the amount of people coming in, many of which don't buy but are there to steal. I've been there to visit him and it's so freakin sad hearing peoples stories and just the look of fear on peoples faces, somethings got to give.

This is bigger than what you see. I was living in my truck for 7 mos to save my retirement to find a home. Did my laundry every weekend and met families living in their cars, the man worked at night the women took care of the kids then the women worked in the day. I started donating to the laundry fund to help these families. Many houses had 10 cars in their front yard, families renting a spot. Most of these people lost their rental as the result of Zillow buying properties and rentals doubled in price, the reason I went homeless. I have a good civil service retirement, worked since I was 12, a Vietnam Vet and to preserve a comfortable retirement I live abroad with a normal woman and I pay my taxes in America. This is worse than the depression that stole my grandfathers property.

i own a small business that sells to larger companys I got several letters from companys stating that they will now pay invoices in 90 days. ( our terms are net 30 ) .It is the begining of many larger companys starting to fail, I saw this in 2008 with the auto companys and suppliers.They end up not being able to pay the loans they have and then start messing with suppliers.

I feel you there. When I had about 18 ounces of single ounce gold coins, I remember selling several of them for $1350! That was the spot price then and I just needed the money to make my house payment. Problem is, there are too few buyers for the used items people are selling

The default rate on pawn shop loans must be huge considering the financial status of the people that are taking out these loans.

Just for something to think about as you lay down to sleep, what happens, when the people pawning their stuff,run out of their own stuff to pawn?🤔,😖,😬.

My dad only gets 1100 a month he can’t even afford an apartment and food I had too send him $1000 , apartments use to be 500 600’700’a month for a two bedroom don’t know what happened in the last 10’15 years

I've been to American Jewelry and Loan in Detroit. I pawned my old drum kit back in 2012 and when I stepped inside that pawn shop I was hit with the smell of the Monroe county jail. That place smells just like a freaking jail. I had to go back to pick up my drums and I smelled the same.

I was just getting ready to say this. And the fact the Tories are 20 points ahead in the polls shows how folks on both sides of the border are looking for change. I keep thinking how calamitous it would be if Trudeau ends up beating Biden out of office (i.e. by losing a general election) despite Canada being a much lefter leaning country overall. But something has to change.

That's corporate greed companies have been gouging customers by inflating profit margins, stock buybacks are the latest trend.

There has been a recession in the uk for at least a year but our government keeps telling us we are not in a recession and the economy is getting stronger. Meanwhile everything has doubled in price and incomes are going down

That “Hardcore Pawn” show was fantastic - I loved watching the cocky brother argue with the sister. I remember they were always buying and selling fur coats - hahaha.

So .... You have NO $$ and you go TO a pawn shop to trade something for $$ that you will have to pay back WITH INTEREST on $$ that you didn't have to begin with ...... ????

Things are really tight. My dad went into the hospital last year and had to stop working after his 3 month stay. I helped as best as I could and mom went back to work after 17 years. He still had to pawn all his tools to catch up and it took him a year to get them all out. He even fixed his old car that was broken down when he got out. They had lost the other car. 50 year old guy rebuilding an engine for a few hours everyday with stage 4 kidney disease and sleeping the rest of the time from lack of energy. He is doing a little bit better a year now, but still sleeps most of the day and now works 6 hours over the weekend delivering pizza. Just so he feels like he is doing something.

Consider a pawn shop will only give you one third of the value of your item if you sell if you pawn you pay high interest for a small loan

Yes prices are going up for sure. But I think the biggest problem is how much people purchase. These days it's common to eat out basically every meal, and get some new thing you want many times a month, or even many times a week for some. Back when I was a kid, my parents cooked at home. We went to a sit down restaurant probably once a month for dinner. Maybe got a quick lunch somewhere twice a month. We got new items (computer, bike, mp3 player, special clothes, etc.) on birthdays and Christmas, and maybe another 2 or 3 times throughout the year.

Welcome to South Africa. The pawn stores has been with us since the ANC came to power. The situation became so dire that people are going to borrow from their salary even before the month had started. 😢
