  • @kronosDking

@@jacekkwc Here are some: 1. Nerf their HP. 16 is a lot. Even putting it down to 15 would help since 16 is a much harder breakpoint to reach. 2. Make their HP swap ability only available once they reach half HP, or something similar, so you could wear them down in one turn and then have an easier time taking them down the next turn without risking an HP swap.

A possible suggestion based on Mortim's review here, specifically about the cards system. If you haven't already, you should make the Dead Man's Hand (Aces and Eights for both black suits) do something special. It has too much notoriety in Old West lore to not utilize.

Ben gave some good ideas, imo, it is fine, as long as you know not to damage them before killing them, you could either nerf them or make them more scarce. I don't mean to dogpile with issues, I enjoyed the combat a lot, but it would be really appreciated if there was a codex with all the types of enemies, mechanics and status effects. For instance, Laughing Deer has a trait that can give him bloodlust, but there is nowhere I can see what that does exactly, some games do this by highlighting the word and when you hover over it, a brief explanation is given. One final issue, it would be good to have the option to retry to the loading screen, additional to the one that takes you the the first round. Great game overall, GL to you and your team with future projects, your ask for feedback and transparency are appreciated!

Thank you for the excellent review! I am excited to play this game. The bravado system is ingenious and the skill tree system based on playing cards gained from missions is brilliant. It is incredible how these two systems work together to make the game more fun and interesting, but also force tough choices about how to share the 52-card deck among the party. It seems reasonable there will be some DLC, perhaps extending the ideas of Scars of Freedom for Hard West. Publicly-traded Polish developer Ice Code Games can leverage the fact that its market cap almost doubled to $30 million after the release of HW2. It is amazing that Hard West from CFG in 2015 sold over 500,000 copies on PC alone according to published results. HW2 improves HW in many ways, although they are independent titles with different lead designers. Another amazing fact is that that HW2 temporarily hit second place on Steam's Global Top Seller list within only a few hours after release!

  • @MrEtheric

Did not have that much trouble with the blackhearts, after the first time just follow the golden rule that you leave them alone if you cannot kill them and it was not too bad. When they attack they do not do much, a 1 damage AOE (at least on hard) that also depletes your luck. Their ability is to swap HP and status, so the damage can be pretty high if you get them low then they swap HP with one of your guys. Explosives are cheap and plentiful and only 1 AP, which solves a lot of the difficulty problems, but not tried nightmare yet. I am always impressed by how fast you can 100% these games though. Did you find the jokers? Saw the spoiler for the location in the steam forum, and complately missed them on my first playthrough. They are difficult to find for sure. Well the Ch3 one is easier to find naturally. I was missing a TON of loyalty though as I pushed Clalish too high too early (and maybe overdid it) wasting quite a few points. Edit :: The most annoying opponents I found was at the end of the game where I found an opponent with a similar ability that DID use the ability at full heath.

Luckily: since it's a Unity game there should be mods eventually. Hopefully they'll put out a cleaner mod like Pathfinder games get to keep the load times down. Interestingly: the only game I've ever had break to the point I had to clear out of the registry, in my entire 38 years on this planet, was WotR; which is also a Unity game.

I enjoyed* the Bravado element in the demo, but at the end of it I worried that it needed better balance. It didn't take beyond a half-battle before I had understood it fully and then it's just about how you implement it from there on out. If the combat going out into the rest of the game is just an expansion of that implementation I would find that a little disappointing. My counsel would be to limit the Bravado recharge to 1 refill of AP per turn. It would slow battles some, sure, but it would at least not be an exercise in how to mop up a screen of bad guys, rinse, repeat.

  • @Cynndora

Played through all of this myself, enjoyed it a great deal, had some issues with some of the later game fights and i don't like the bullseye system, this game has really reliable combat when it comes to chance to hit and the luck system, the RNG of getting critical hits really doesn't fit, would of been much better if it was like Fallout 4 where you can build up a meter to save a critical hit for later or as a minimum range in which you can auto-crit someone if they lack cover. Surprised i missed the 2 joker cards, i do quite a bit of overchecking to see if i miss stuff, so either well hidden or moon logic.
