Joke’s on me, I don’t finish the end of a lot of books anyway 😂😂 sometimes even if I love it, when I can feel that something stressful is about to happen (or if it starts dragging) I just can’t make myself pick it up again and then “later” becomes “never” bc I go so long that I forget what happens and who everyone is 😂

Honestly, question 1 is why I give Veronica Roth props. Not many authors that I've read are actually willing to do that and I wasn't upset when it happened

Ironically, I was just thinking almost the opposite haha…I knew what was coming from the beginning bc there was no other reason to suddenly introduce a second POV in the last book of the series 🙃 I was so annoyed bc (imo) it wasn’t even executed well and I kept having to flip back to the start of the chapter to see who’s perspective I was reading

My entire year has basically been great concept and terrible writing, so I'd almost like to switch things up by boring concept and great writing. Also, 100% agree with sacrificing a book to revamp another one.

I have DNFed SO many books because of bad dialogue! For the longest time, I was DNFing every contemporary romance I read!

Also another thing with bugs, it might be, at the risk of sounding a little off, a little cool to find them pressed between pages. For example my mother gave me a complete collection of Oscar Wilde that has pressed flowers between the pages that she actually forgot about. Pressed bugs are a little different but it might give a similar sentiment for me

Yeah with the tattoo it generally matters to me if I get to choose the book. Because if so then I'll just pick a short poetry collection that is also a favourite of mine which I am pretty sure it would be Tell Me The Truth About Love by W.H. Auden, and it would be kind of nice having lines of poetry written here and there on your body. But if I don't get to choose then I will have to go for the cover.

the way i remember paticipating in this on instagram and yet can't remember some of my answers 😂 i totally get why one would prefer a book executing a cool concept well and lack in writing style, but for me it's the opposite. i find it way too hard to finish a book when i don't like the weiting style

I think the character death after each chapter could actually be a really cool book concept. Like, imagine a story where each chapter (would probably have to be longer-ish chapters for the most part) is told by a different character and then at the end of the chapter the perspective character dies. This could work really well if you have a complex story line with maybe some temporal aspects to it, like parts that happen in the past and parts that happen in the present, or a story that takes place over a long time. And then each character would essentially fulfil their role in the story and then die. Idk but I think that could be a compelling read

I'd rather be spoiled for a character death because it would be annoying to finish if I know how it ends but if I know a character dies I can just brace myself for it to happen and it doesn't ruin other stuff.

I love spoilers. I will read the last chapter of a book like I did yesterday and I will look up spoilers before I start and I will look up spoilers halfway through the book. I will particularly look up spoilers if I think that there is even a slight possibility of a major or loved character death happening because I refuse to read it then.

Authors being cowards for hardly ever killing main characters was not the take I expected to hear today, but upon further thought I think I agree with it? I mean, I don't appreciate when they kill someone off (main or otherwise) just for the shock value, but if you are going to kill characters (and why wouldn't you? Death and grief are enormous parts of the human experience) always choosing to kill unimportant side-characters is definitely a cop out. Additionally, I feel like many of the books that have really stuck with me involve important characters' deaths. I want books to make me feel things and not just randomly kill that one guy we met twice and expect that to hit home (spoiler: it won't).

I used to be SO bad at grammar and now it's basically my job, but the worst thing about that is now noticing all the mistakes i never would have before and it's so frustrating 🙃. If you wouldn't mind, what is the silvery cover book below the lower plant? It's so pretty 😆

I can't remember what I initially chose for character death at the end of every chapter vs. forgetting the chapter before, but I'd go with character death. But it is super dependant on if it actually adds to the story, or if the author's killing off characters just to kill of characters.

Ngl, with the last one I chose the misspelling because, as a bilingual reader that I haven't always been, misspels are pretty common and now they just make me laugh or bring me a tiny smile, also it's pretty common with translated web comics, so I'm used to it (just my personal situation 😅) and with the horrible grammar I'm used to it too BUT, and this is why I chose it, there's been ocassions where bc of a bad elaborated sentence or smth like that, I got confused and misundertood the meaning of a dialogue and that leads even to not care about a character for being "rude" or taking it the wrong way idk XD None of them bother me 'cause it's tipical, but I know for experience that a bad grammar can confuse me and make me re-read something a lot or not understand the intention XD Too long Sorry 🤣

I can't believe so many people would rather read the ENDING of a book?!? That question was so easy for me. Most of the time I really don't like how books end anyway (or I never get to the end of series). I'm there for the concept, the writing, the world building, the characters -- I can make my own ending

1. Depends on how much I love the character. If they are a main character, or someone I’m super invested in then having that be spoiled could be worse than the end of a series. So probably series ending. 2. Read the beginning, not the end. I already do that to myself by starting unfinished and abandoned fan fictions, so clearly it’s not a deal breaker. 3. Sticky, if there were bugs in between pages I would be terrified that there where live bugs stick somewhere in there. 4. The book cover, a single quotes okay, but a whole book is insane. 5. Character death 6. Execution all the way, a book I enjoy even with a basic concept is still a book I enjoy. There is such a large range of terrible writing, that can make it absolutely impossible to read, or even make sense of. 7. Depends on the world. I’m a fan of wildbow’s worm for example, but I would absolutely not want to visit there. Some worlds would be really fun, I would love to go to Hogwarts for example. But I don’t think I could take the risk. 8. Are audiobooks an option? If so then stinging it while I touch it would be cool, but for a physical book it’s the stinky one. 9. Never talk about the books I love. I can still read fan fiction as a silent observer. I can watch KZread videos without commenting. I can still bask in the community while not interacting in it. 10. The second one, it’s a good trade, a great book in exchange for an equally great book. Their sacrifice will not be in vain. Plus then I get to read another book. 11. Cringy dialogue. For me I would much more rather have a sticky book than a book with bugs. As they say ignorance is bliss. Also it would much easier to wipe off the sticky outside of the cover with like a wet wipe/washcloth whereas the bugs is a lot harder and you could ruin the pages by getting it wet trying to wipe off the bug smear. The question didn't say anything about being able to clean it after you have it

Some of these depend a lot on the context for me: Great concept but horrible writing, or boring concept but good writing? 1. How good is the good writing? Is it amazing or just well-written? 2. In what way is the bad writing bad? Is it repetitive? Tough to read? Bad in a funny way? 3. What do you mean by 'concept'? Often 'concept' just means the idea rather than the whole plot and execution. Are both concepts executed well? 4. What about the characters? I'm assuming the good concept is also executed well, otherwise the decision is too easy. I'm also assuming the characters are equally good in both books. Conclusion: - If I'm picking between a book with a writing style I hate that makes it hard to read, but the concept and execution are excellent, and a book with a boring concept and a mediocre execution, but a writing style that I love reading, I would easily pick the writing style. I've loved a few books purely for the writing style (looking at you, Night Circus), so I think this would work. - However, if the bad writing style is bad because it's full of amateur 'writing mistakes', that is a much harder choice. This is annoying, but can still be fun to read, and I will enjoy the unique, well-written plot. But then a boring concept can be easy to ignore if the writing's really good. I think it would depend whether the boring plot is also unsatisfying, and how good the good writing style is. Sucked into a fictional world without favorite characters, or have favorite characters come to visit? 1. Is being sucked into the world permanent or is it also temporary? If it's permanent, no other questions asked: I'm picking the second option. As much as I love fiction, I would never want to live there forever, especially if I can't read or write more books or listen to my favorite music or see my real life favorite people. 2. Can I choose which fictional world I'm visiting? If I can pick a favorite world to visit that is not necessarily from my favorite books, I will pick the first option (as long as it's temporary). Seeing new places is a huge mood and inspiration boost for me. This is even better if I can visit multiple worlds and have some sort of safeguard against their dangers. 3. If I can't choose the world, which world will I be sucked into? As you said, some worlds are too similar to this world to be super interesting. Also, a lot of worlds have dangerous elements that might get me killed or badly injured. But as long as visiting the world would be a positive (and temporary) experience, I actually think I'd still pick the world. Which is surprising because I'm a HUGE character person. But this is exactly why I'm reluctant to pick the character. Let me explain: - A lot of my faves are heavily flawed characters! Some of them are people I wouldn't even like in real life (get Light Yagami, Heathcliff, and half the cast of Abercrombie's books away from me!). Others have other flaws that could cause problems, like kleptomania (sorry Wayne, I don't wanna lose my stuff). - Also, I don't wanna be disappointed. The characters could be less fun in real life than in the book, or maybe they won't get along with me, or maybe it'll be awkward and I won't know what to say to them. Exploring a world is a lot less pressure. I found a loophole in this one though: Would you rather have a book you love disappear from existence after reading it or never be able to talk about the books you love? I'd pick having the book disappear after reading. Why? Because it is only one book. 'would you rather have A book you love (singular) disappear' or 'NEVER be able to talk about the bookS (plural) you love'? I would much rather have ONE of my favorite books disappear from existence after reading it than not be able to talk about ANY of my favorite books to anyone. It would suck that I couldn't recommend that one book to anyone or reread it or showcase it on my bookshelf, but it's only one book and I don't do many rereads anyway and I would still remember the story and be able to tell people about it (though they might not believe it was a real book). I think the worst part would be not being able to recommend it to other people since the book does not exist, but that wouldn't be possible for the second option either since I can't talk about it. And I could retell the story so other people can enjoy it too. Easy choice for me.

8:06 look, i would die in any fictional world, and my favourite is percy jackson, so its basically ours with demigods, and if im mortal AND i don't meet my favourite character, theres no point in me being there Buttt, if the characters meet me id be safe and (give them a break) get to meet my favourite characters So 100% they come into our world

One time I loaned my beautiful copy of 1984 to a friend. I got it back a year later, and the back had a dollop of something hot-pink and sticky. My friend was unable to identify the substance. There is still a hot-pink stain on the back of the book. The whole thing was terrible. But depending on how many pages have squished bugs in them and how badly the pages are stained with bug guts, I might still opt for the unknown sticky substance.

For me, if I actively dislike the way something is written I am not going to enjoy the book. Meanwhile, if I love the writing I am willing to overlook of areas falls short on. Also, many books I love is described as boring by others, partly because they are slow paced, but nonetheless. So I will go for the good writing for those reasons. Even if the book is overall executed well but with poor writing I will not be here for it and I will not enjoy it.

1. Man that's hard. I'm going to go with character death, because like you said, it's not as dramatic as an entire ending. 2. Reading the ending without the beginning. Question 1: I usually don't get too fussed over characters deaths in books (Depending on the character though).So if I knew which character bit it..if they go out in a bang or way where their death is impactful, it sucks but I could move on. I would hate to be spoiled for how a series ends if I'm enjoying the ride. Question 2: See I need context as well and cannot just start the end of a book without knowing how we got here. I would read the beginning and if the book is great, I'd be disappointed if I couldn't finish it. Question 3: Easy answer, Bugs. I could just wipe them off the pages. I took part in answering the questions and even though I can't remember my answers, I do remember finding it hard to make a choice for many of them. Now that I think about it... on the tattoo question... - imagine getting the text of a book all over your body, but the book is some unhinged dark romance haha.

And what if our favourite character hates us, or finds it suuuuper uncomfortable that they are a fictional character and have a fan who knows everything about them. We would be their bump in the night. Every action they take, they'll wonder if we're reading it. It might be a suuuuper creepy situation for them 😅

Fun video. Yes I want to know when a character is going to die. That way I can either brace myself properly or dnf the book before I get to something that would make me rage quit anyway. I'd pick reading the end of a book. Like a movie you arrive at 20 minutes late you can still figure out what is going on. Also if this is a trilogy reading the last book in it could count as reading only the end of the story. Bugs, you can always brush them away and at least you know what the stains are. I don't do tattoos, period. Just not my thing. I'm going to be weird completely contradict myself from earlier and pick character deaths every chapter cuz the manga I am currently reading is like that anyway. Half the deaths are bad guys so it's cool. I normally would say the opposite but Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas is something I am weirdly loving. And I hate pausing all the time and coming back to it because it is long and I do keep forgetting what is happening by the time I have time to read more (or at least the chapter I left off with.) cuz it's only available in English online with fan translations. This was a hard one I guess a boring concept executed well. That's what slice of life books are anyway right? What would be the point if I couldn't meet my favorite characters? I'd have them meet me in my world. I would pick the stinging book. Gonna be a long reading session so I don't have to touch it too many times. But bad smells can give me a huge headache and make me want to puke. Next one is really hard. Can the book disappear from my existence to be constantly passed along to other people's existence to read and discover it and still talk about it with me? Or I could just memorize the story as I go if the book could never exist again. Then I could write down the story myself and share that with people. I would kinda be the book's new author. Neither. I'll keep my favorite books as they are thank you very much. Even if the character survives there is no guarantee the book will be good. And even if a book can be revamped into something maybe incredible it's still not worth sacrificing and old favorite for a potential chance at a new one. I have a high tolerance for so-called "cringe" so bring it on. At least the book might end up an MST3K situation. Bad grammar I guess. The truly worst option would be a book with no punctuation though.

I feel like the people who want to meet their favorite characters want to shoot their shot but my favorite characters are mentally unstable serial killers so survivability is incredibly low.

I think I have a certain type of dyslexia where I shuffle letters in words around and pronounce them wrong, so I probably wouldn’t notice misspellings, but I would definitely see grammar mistakes. 😂😂

What’s crazy about the question where a book disappears from existence, is if someone else in the world finishes it before you, you’ll never get to know how it ends😭

7:55 I’m sorry but y’all are *lying!!!* There are books that get onto the New York Times Bestseller list based on concept *alone,* not to mention all of the TikTok books that are marketed and sold solely on concept!! I find that most don’t have the attention span for a bad concept. They’d rather suffer through bad writing for a good concept than suffer through the bad concept for… what? Good writing? I’d pay money to see that. Heck, if it’s a bad concept, it’s probably not even being read. You have to hook readers in any way you can nowadays.
