I learned porting from DV's books in the early 80's. I still have those books. My time slips at the track were proof that DV knows his stuff. He's far more of a research scientist than a head porter. I like Eric's videos, but he doesn't put anywhere near the research into what he presents as DV does. Thank you, DV. You've been a bigger part of my life than you could ever imagine.

I can say uncategorically that David spec'd out a 500+ hp 350 SBC engine for me, and this was way back in the late 1990s or early 2000s. In those days he had a service where you paid a reasonable fee and he returned a MONSTER build list with ALL the required components. From crank to carb! And let me tell you it DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I also built my own 355 SBC making 400 hp with vortec heads using one of his build books. Also way back in the early 2000s. When I say I was a complete novice before I read the book, I mean I never built anything prior to that build. I followed his book step by step and a few months later I had 400 hp tire smokin' 3rd gen camaro that I got from the junkyard for few hundred bucks. The only thing I didn't do was the bore and hone. I did everything else. Hands down David is EASILY the best LSA cam expert.

The fact is another professional overstepped their boundaries and chose to stir up controversy on another creator's channel. At that point it’s just trolling on a higher level. Then this. Not once but twice inside of 24 hours. All during an election season with the masses being divided and subjected to the vitriol of politicians. Now it’s just turned into a case of two people arguing like idiots both resembling to be one and the same. I had respect for both men’s information. DV had my respect for being one of the first writers to gather my interest and make me give pause to think about what I was doing in my early automotive machining career. That was 34 years ago. I was 18 years old. Like Eric direct experience through all of these years has been different than some of DV’s teachings but there’s always context and resolutions to be considered. I still respect the fact that DV jarred my mind into thinking closer and made a mundane career transform into something interesting and meaningful with goals to achieve. Eric lends great insight into cylinder heads that I have not had much experience with. Simple well thought out examples direct and to the point and most of all they directly correlate with what my experiences have been in the induction world. Seeing this has damaged my perceptions of both. I’m sure both men were raised better than this. Egos have ran away with both minds. I battle with this within myself. No room for it when I’m seeking trusted advice. This is damaging to both involved. I’m setting sights elsewhere for a while until this blows over. By then I would hope that cooler heads prevail. There are lots of people in this world that are intentionally hurting one another to the point of ruining lives. I can’t say that I’ve seen any of it in the automotive world until now. Both should be ashamed of themselves. My final bit of advice to both. We are all capable of being tyrants. The founder of freedom all recognized this as a self evident truth and set about creating our supreme laws in a fashion to directly restrict this. Yet these day and ages we all reject the accountability on any level let alone our tyrannical tendencies. It should stop. We should all be working like Americans that strive for freedom and accept the warnings we get for resembling tyrants. Lest we stop resembling and start becoming. This is dangerous. It directly applies and it’s UnAmerican.

Sometimes is better to say nothing in return, not even trying to discredit the one discrediting you. You port cylinder heads like no other I've seen nobody else cut the exhaust ramps into sbc heads like you have and you are the only one who has an explanation of camshafts above the normal "High lift is all that matters" Where as you have point out the LSA, and Duration and valve overlap has more to do with engine performance than lift. All this being said there is something I would like to debate you on and that is oil. I have seen it time and time again a good full synthetic oil is better than any conventional oil at both having less friction and having less wear. Test mighty full synthetic 10w 30 motor oil and It will beat any oil you use even if you use additives like oil extreme which I believe to be a fortune 500 company scam.

The reason is because DV had no involvement in the installation of the heads on the subject engine. He never also "throughly tested" the heads that came off the subject engine. That engine made very good power to start with, a proven combination. The only thing they did was equalize the CC's to keep the compression ratio the same. We still have not been told if the valve geometry/stiffness was verified because we are not allowed to ask questions. The heads were milled, still using the same pushrods? Every back yard mechanic swapping heads checks this. This has to be the first time in history a better head made less power, almost like it was designed that way to prove a point. Meanwhile in 2024 you can buy a Melling Godzilla drop in cam that picks up 50hp without even a spring change and it's got a 121 LSA....on a truck engine.

The more of these video's DV makes the more he is displaying he is a textbook case: "When it comes to overt narcissism, these individuals have an insatiable need for admiration and attention. They constantly exaggerate their achievements and talents, going to great lengths to impress those around them. In their minds, they genuinely believe that they are superior and more deserving than others. It's as if they live in their own grandiose world, where they are the center of the universe. One notable aspect of overt narcissism is their inability to acknowledge any flaws or weaknesses within themselves. They may be quick to point out the shortcomings of others, but when it comes to self-reflection, they fall short. This lack of self-awareness can be frustrating to deal with, as they rarely take responsibility for their actions or consider how their behavior affects others."

Just put up a vid highlighting 100 of those projects, = 100 still photos. Case Closed, everybody agrees only you have more DYNO time than anybody on Planet Earth. There's a saying people use, "Pictures, Or It Never Happened." Personally, MY money is on MY old Boss, he had Dyno's running 12 hr.s a day, 5 days a week from 1958 till 2017. There wasn't an engine that was rebuilt at his AERA Shop that wasn't run in with the Dyno Sheet to prove it.

Meanwhile we monitored them remotely and processed 3-4 times the data daily as Twitter. We could look on our phone and determine which cylinder was developing a failure from data before it failed. I did this for 15 years, and was paid over a million dollars. Do I think I'm an expert or research engineer? NO. I'm just an idiot that did what he was paid to do. Hot rod and every magazine did tests, flow numbers and dyno runs. All of them possibly paid for by the highest bidder to be nothing more than a paid advertisement for who ever paid for the add. So you may or may not have gotten the best combination. And if I hear another vortec head, 383 build it will be too soon. The old magazines pushed the “high rpm kills motor” motto every issue. And today we know small blocks need rpm’s to make power. Unless you are stepping up to the actual 400 sb, anything less cid than that needs rpm’s. And I have several of David Vizard’s performance books. Lots of good info. But I watch Eric Weingartner’s dyno videos, also, also have many of his books, I’ve looked at flow numbers on websites and compared to his results, and seen the numbers, sometimes advertised numbers don’t add up. Big Flow numbers don’t always equate to more power, if the combination can take advantage of those big numbers it can and you make power. And both of you can pull out the tape measurer and measure who’s is bigger all day long. All I know is that after reading hot rod since before I had a license or could turn a wrench, I have come to question many of the articles we took as gospel in this pages. Because the numbers they claimed back in the 80’s don’t add up. Technology, measuring tools, efi, valve train tech, engine parts have gotten better since then. So it would go without saying the old combinations don’t add up like they did back then. Now I still know some old dirt trackers that have build kinda stock engines that will sing past 7000 rpm’s with flat tappet cams every Friday and would make some potent street engines. So you guys can throw it off the bridge and see who’s hits the bottom of the river all day long, all you like. I still read the late John Lingenfelter articles and Smokey’s Yunick book and like that info also. I’m in north Texas, I hope one day to go visit Weingartner racing and take my ported 882 heads up there to have them flowed. Just to see how good my work that I did years ago actually is. Hope all you have a nice day.

  • @chrisbreckenfelder7227

Why not do a challenge on that exact head to run stock dyno numbers and tests....then both port using your own techniques and present them to a 3rd party to run and test...it doesn't have to be who is better...it could be what techniques are more likely to produce results...then the other person has learned in the process, which benefits everyone. Perhaps that would stop the pissing contest of two people that in their own seem respectable gentleman. I think this would both put each others money where their mouth is, as well as educate all viewers of their content.

Then if you know you did, have proof of such things (which exist), why then continue the argument if that is the only sticking point? If you did do it and post it (132), its not worth the argument. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. It seems, at this point, the frustration is in why he is not drinking. I think if it is to be a teaching moment, then do so thru action of showing technique over another. That isn't to harm the other, its to educate and move on. The flow and dyno will give answers along with track results. That helps everyone, including the situation and the viewers of both pages. Everyone is a student in the grand scheme of things as we all continue to learn as things evolve everyday. I've seen multiple theories on approaches to porting and valve angling, to me, it seems like a useful opportunity to test in order to prove or disprove theories instead of just arguing or throwing opinions of each other's viewpoint. To my knowledge, this is how things evolved in science and theory by challenging theories, which can lead to new revelations and better understandings, otherwise we would have never progressed this far as a society.

A gent who we all knew down here decided he was going to build and match that engine and took his engine to Kelly's block welding here in Los Angeles..... A very well-known shop that has been in business since the 1950's..... And still in business. He rode into Hot rod magazine a month later after Kelly and his son could not find the majority of the parts that they had listed and general motors specifically stated they did not exist. He wrote a letter to the editor which was published and they came up with some grandioso excuse...... My dad was also a mechanical aerospace engineer in the early days of the aerospace programs and raced, built engines, etc including a NA flathead that turne 211 mph at El Mirage back in the mid 1950's..... I seldom believe most anything I read or see on TV shows with these guys......

DV i understand your frustration, but this type of video hurts your channel. You don't need to defend your reputation. I bought your A Series book decades ago and have read most of your other publications. Your viewers are others like me who already believe in you and don't need convincing of your experience. If i see someone criticise you, i write them off as a moron, you dont need to respond to them. Please don't waste your time making this type of if video, its unnecessary. Make technical videos please.

Jesus Christ, it's time to move on DV. I know, the surgery and everything, but you aren't actually defending your reputation from slander by doing this, you're just coming across as insecure. If you just can't let it go, then make one comprehensive rant video, provide the actual evidence to corroborate each claim you make in it, and close the book on it. Regardless of whether you're right or wrong, endless rampaging just makes you look less credible. Also, the ones who talk about and/or threaten to "beat the shit out of him", are usually not the ones who actually do it.

@@DavidVizard I would say my piece and go on to be honest. Mr Vizard your a god amongst car enthusiasts serious and the lay man. You have lifetimes of experience that speaks for itself, it doesn't need defending to hard the proof is there. I think after a point good energy is wasted, no need to keep exchanging blows. I hate seeing two skilled people waste precious time in such a manner , I get defending your honor and reputation etc, I do, I just spent nearly the past 8years in bed, my heart stopped several dozen times, I've had 219 massive seizures and a stroke. I was never supposed to live past the 3rd seizure. I've had to learn All motor skills over an over due to seizures. I have severe CRPS, Tardive Dyskinesia and Stephen Johnsons because of the injuries and meds that I sustained defending honor, mine an others. Your the inspiration for what is probably my last build and nearly 30yrs of building engines, I have a 355 that is almost straight out of your books. It's a work of art. I'm nearly done and ready to put in my Square Burb. You both were an inspiration to my build, I can barely stand most days and shake like MJ Fox on a good day and am in a living hell 24/7 from the pain but I still smile and am doing all I can to finish my vehicle so I can enjoy my handiwork and to leave my lil brother a work of art from those who inspired me to live the life I've lived. Please sir, let's just shake hands.

Stop with the appeal to authority, and "don't you know who I am?!". If you have proof, then show it. An engineer doesn't just make claims and then not justify it.

Block and ban off your channel anyone that say some thing that "stop using authority speech" or something demeaning to you or your channel, because otherwise youtube lgorith will start showing your videos taht would dislike and harm your videos, b3cause yourube doesnt care abour eight or wrong, youtube will alleays care about views and controversy (even if thwt controversy harms you).

Egos are bruised. You guys are going back and forth. Does it really matter who is better. I know you've been around a long time and have great knowledge. But if I get to the same place doing it a different way. Does it matter how I got there? This is not a middle school playground. You guys are professionals. Act like it. You 2 are acting like school children not getting their ways. Seriously? As the older gentleman setting an example, Dies it matter. It is just your prides at stake.
