I got one of these used for 30 bucks. (what a deal!) And the first thing I did was put on a diagonal cross brace across the back. Fixed all the wobbling.

RUBBERWOOD is a light-colored medium-density tropical hardwood obtained from the Pará rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis), usually from trees grown in rubber plantations. Rubberwood is commonly advertised as an "environmentally friendly" wood, as it makes use of plantation trees that have already served a useful function.

I brought this same one and I added the harbor freight coasters w/locks. I’m loving it. I can roll it wherever I want.

This was my first bench and I still use it. Adding a sheet of plywood in the back made it stiff enough to plane on. I also added casters so I can move it around the shop. I tried adding a leg vise but the legs are just not wide enough. Finally I moved all the drawers to the right side and now I have more storage on the left side.

I upgraded mine. I installed 14 inch full extension sliders on drawers, peg board on the back and side to hang tools, painting paper roll holder on one end to protect top for painting projects. . .below that a rod to hold small clamps, Rockler workbench casters (with a steel across for releasing both legs quicker), Kreg bench clamp and made the bottom shelf flat to slide in harbor freight parts storage cases. The top of mine didn't stay flat so I might have to upgrade that. Also, the bench dog holes are 1/2 inch and most bench dog accessories are 3/4 so I drilled out a couple by the vise so I can utilities some bench dog accessories. For my first "portable"/maneuverable (casters) workbench it works great in my little shop.

Well you talked me into it. It has gone up to $199, but my plan had been buy a butcher block countertop at home depot for $189 and build a base. Pretty sure I could not build a base for $10, so this is a great alternate plan. To be sure, I’d much rather build my own complete bench, but this at least gets me started!

I have one of these. You are correct about everything including the vise. But I don't use it for wood working. I beat on it with my tools and it's still solid after owning it for at least 5 years.

Looks like a decent workbench for the price. The dog is adorable. He definitely wants to be a KZread star.

This is a pretty solid little workbench. While once you figure out how it comes together, it is physically Easy to assemble kzread.infoUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh by yourself. But the diagrams explaining the steps are really pretty bad. I could not get the handle pins in all the way despite multiple attempts, so I just used a screw I had on hand for the 2nd handle. I could not get the first pin in further or pull it back out. You are supposed to hammer it in, but I had no leverage and the handle is plastic and I did not want to risk breaking it. I will get a lot of use out of the bench because of the convenient size and height. It does fold up nicely for storage. They even explain how to fold it so you don't get pinched...that is important!

Quick fix for the vice handle ends: screw a small fender washer into each end to keep the caps in place.

I bought this table about 2 months ago. It's become the primary workbench for me and it's stable, secure and is an essential part of my shop. I used the wood vice today and it worked perfectly. The tray below the table is strong and has many of my smaller power tools that I keep in tool bags. It's worth every penny. Don't get fooled by the tables assembled in the store, those tables aren't assembled the way you will when you get it home. Thanks for the great reviews!

Thanks for the review. I agree its a no brainer purchase if you need a general workbench. I bought 2 of these back in January. Used a 20% 0ff coupon and got them them for $119 each. I have them mounted back to back and held together with magnets. I got the idea from Advanced Geekery's channel. This gives you a nice large work space or 2 smaller work tops depending on the project.

I love mine, use it specifically for a hand carving station. I added a tool till to the back of mine.

I purchased one of these about 6 years ago when I was easing into hand tool woodworking as my 'Hobby of Choice'. It was better than the workbench I didn't have though no treat, that's for sure. It DID suffice as a work surface while I build some shop furniture to 'warm up' for building a Rubio style workbench in the way of Charles Schultz. Instead of throwing it out after I built a 'real' workbench, I re-flattened the top (the thing warps if ya look at it crosswise) and use it as a place to organize things....but not at all as a work surface. As everyone says, it is way too light for hand tool work. If I had put a couple sacks of sand on the lower shelf....that would have been a good temporary solution. If you don't have a bench....get this thing as a stopgap and build something that works. I had NO experience with the large joints used on the Rubio....but the Japanese style sawhorse and matching height sawbench I built as a warm-up me far enough along that the workbench came out just fine.....and it weighs about 350#, at least.

Yep, I was afraid you would overlook the racking problem. Good Job, you nailed it.

Add back panel for cross bracing to make the bench more stable. Also, beware on the drawer slides. Two of ours had bad slides on one drawer per bench. Annoying is that sawdust drops through the dog holes into the drawers. I put tape over the bottom of the holes, and replace it as needed.

This can be had for $119 if you can wait for the coupon. I recently purchased this bench. I left off the drawers and plan on doing some upgrades. I purchased it primarily as a basic base to customize. I’m very happy with it so far. Definitely needs glue/reinforcement to the joints to help stabilize it.

I have had the same workbench for about 3 years. I had the same exact thoughts about it. It was something that has been great to help get me started. I have been thinking of doing it up and adding more drawers and hopefully upgrading the drawer slides would be top of the list. I'm also thinking that adding solid blocking to the ends and even the back should make the bench more rigid. Looking forward to seeing how you upgrade the bench. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

I believe it parawood from the rubber tree. High sustainable as it's usually plantation grown since a rubber tree can only produce so much resin before they're cut.

Yes, this is correct. I have 4 of these benches and they are great as side tables.

I have had this same workbench for a couple of years and it's working out great for me, one upgrade I'm going to make soon. Is attaching peg board to the outside of the legs for more storage, also thinking about putting a sliding drawer in the existing drawers for more storage space.

I’m gonna follow along with the upgrades you make and do them to mine too.

I've been using that same workbench for 8 or 9 yrs. now. My main complaint was the drawers, so I bought new slides and solved that one. I attached some 3/8" pegboard to the back and that made it more solid and I can hang stuff on it. Added casters so I can move it around. I don't remember what I paid for it but bought when it was on sale and I had a nice coupon to knock some more off. Not a bad table for the money! Take care, Dave

great review. I've h ad mine maybe 3 years.... it's worked great for me.. fits easily in my one car garage.. I thought the vice worked okay... recently I wanted to use it as an outfeed table for my dewalt table saw and found if I take harbor freights appliance dolly that cost me around 20 dollars, and put a couple of 4X4's about 4 ft long on it. I simply put it under the shelf and then can easily rool my table out onto my driveway and cut wood. very handy table that's easy to move with a minimal foot print. Bruce.

How’s it going…. I’m actually a beginner wood worker.. I just started getting into woodworking a few months back.. I started with building things from pallet wood, and became fairly decent & was actually able to start advertising some of the things I had built, & within no time I actually started selling some of the things I had built & still building, so that really made me happy that I was doing something g that I had started just as a little hobby for something to do, and it was something that I enjoyed doing, but now it was also making me money LOL… only problem was… my wife and I live in a townhouse that has NO garage, NO basement, NO attic, NO WORKSHOP lol, our dining room floor and table became my worship and work table along with the hard floor. As well as my small back porch where I took my miter saw to make cuts ON THE FLOOR OF THE BACK PORCH, and had to carry the miter saw in and out all the time, then I bought my fist table saw and had to do the same thing with that all the time lol… anyways… I actually just built my first workbench with folding legs and it’s portable with caster wheels to easily move in and out my house, and I did the same style but as a cart for my miter saw and table saw.. then I came across your channel and this video this morning and enjoyed it, I thought that workbench was fairly decent, almost made me wish I would have maybe bought it lol but I like how mine turned out and it folds and wheels anywhere lol and it’s to my specific. Liking as is both my carts… BUT… I just wanted to say that I enjoyed your video and subscribed, you talked about the vice that came on that workbench and it got me thinking that I do not have a vice or ANY accessory on my bench so now I’m going to add and build one into mine lol… thanks for the video and giving me my idea at the same time!!!!!

I got one of these benches a few years ago for $99 on special. I agree that as is, it is a good beginner bench. Like Rusty T, I added plywood across the back and that helped stiffen it up. I use it for light duty work with hand tools in the woodworker role and do lots of other thinks like blade sharpening, repairs etc for around the house stuff. Good deal for the money.

Looks like it is what they call Rubberwood. That is a common wood that they use in Asian countries. I worked for a major furniture company for almost 30 years in the US. And we used a lot of it. It can be a dangerous wood to work with cutting and sanding it has Latex in it. Wearing a mask is a must when working with it!

I’ve had 2 of those benches and i beleive they were Rubber Wood i am a retired ProfessionalWoodworker i certainly wasn’t impressed with the End Vise or the Drawer Slides but in all honesty i only used mine for little Hobby projects and i was tight on space so the extra storage kind of helped me out for the money and simplicity. i was happy as i hauled two of them in my Girlfreinds SUV !

Turned mine into a reloading bench with four presses along the top front. Does the job.

I have a very small work area and plan on getting this work bench tomorrow. Hope I like it 😆

I bought one about a year ago. The vice handle snapped about a week in and saw it had a factory crack in it. I made a replacement one ont of walnut dowel. You are right, the drawers are cheesey. But tolerable. I put locking casters on the bottom so I can easily move it around my shop when I need to.

I use mine as a combination outfeed table and sharpening station, It's fine for that but not for hand tool woodwork. By the time you beef this up enough to be useful for had tool work (planing, chopping mortises, etc.) you could well have built a real bench with a top with which you could use holdfasts, etc.. And the vise is way sub-par. Still, it's a great inexpensive option for the uses to which I put it. Just don't expect more of it than it can give.

That is an AWESOME Dog

I have the same workbench, great value I think! I even mounted a RCBS Bullet press on it and it holds up great!

Purchased it with a coupon for about $116 a year or two ago. It's usually a horizontal surface that collects stuff, but I put bigger blocks under the legs, and then put casters below that, so I can move it around. The short throw of the drawers is a bit (well, VERY) annoying, and getting sawdust in them is annoying as well. It seems too narrow for much setup (I deal with sheet goods a bit.). I had put up a sawhorse-based 2x4 cross-grid setup as a more or less permanent sheet good cutting surface. My wife wants her garage back... I'm resisting.. stay tuned for how this turns out. Usually I lose. LOL

I bought his bench today (Nov 2023) and it is much heavier and better than the old one.

I see rubberwood (a member of the maple family with hardness of 9500) in this, but looks like it may be several species, typically furniture companies will use their cutoffs and endjoin them to make laminated sheets and then make things such as this. Rubberwood is moisture absorbent, more so than other wood species. May also trigger latex allergies in some.

Use wood glue and longer drywall screws on the assembly joints to help stiffen the table.

I just bought their newer 3 drawer woodworking bench. It's a lot heavier duty than the 4 drawer but it also costs $200 as opposed to $149. Same Rubber wood Maple raw material, just more robust in size. I'm going to use it as a glue up table for my coffee tables, bar tops and dining table builds. Eventually I'll buy a second one and connect them back to back. Cheers 🥂

If you want to build a bench for less you can get solid oak pallets from places that sell sheet metal. I made a Moravian workbench in 3 days. You will need about 6 pallets if you only pick out the best. Laminate the legs with 4 slats each and laminate the top with the runners and make all the short cross members from 2 slats. For the long stretchers and leg vice use the runners. I spent $54 for my vice $9.70 for dowels to drawbore my mortises and the top sits on pegs of 3/4 dowel I used the remainder for bench dogs. I did use a peace of mahogany and pine that I had for the tool tray probably $30 worth. I also used an expensive hardwood finish I got from work.

I got mine back in December 2020. I use it more for gun smithing than wood working but for the dollars you can’t beat the price.

Rianos Rustics has been useing that bench is 12x16 finish room addition to my workshop for 2years now

I've been using mine for about a year. Great for the price but mine did have some hole alignment issues. It is quite lite and wobbly. I added some 1x4 boards between the legs which helped quite a bit with the wobbliness and added a little extra weight. There's still a little twist that I'll try to remedy with a few more boards added for cross bracing. Overall I'm happy I bought it.

Im still planning to replace drawers and strengthen up the wobble! I still use it daily for an accessory workbench. The hand tool bench I built is still my primary one!

I have this bench, I didn't install the drawers so I could use my bench irons. My only complaint was the bottom shelf was so warped that I couldn't get it in the frame, so I attached 1" angle iron and laid 2×4's in loose for a shelf and to add a little weight. I used an insider coupon also, saved an extra 20 bucks.

Actually I think this would make an excellent workbench for reloading and firearms maintenance. Cheers!

I bought one last summer. Replaced the drawer runners with wood slides still need to replace the drawer under devider as mine pulled out. The material is worse than MDF for holding screws. It works is about all I can say about it.

I have 2 of these. On sale $119. I to replace the crap drawers with 6 full pullout slide drawers. I added another 3/4" top. I added wheels that flip so that it's stationary when you want it to be. I also stiffened it with a full back on it. I also rebuilt the faces of the vice. I think that this is one of the best items that you can get from HF

@@AlejandroGarciaTunon I just put some wheels/casters on one end and then on the other end I put the wheels on a 2x6 then hinged them so I could flip them out of the way when I didn't want the bench to move.

I have to say you sold me on picking up 2 so I can make a nice large table. Now in your opinion would I be able to get the vise on the same side of both tables? Also make a nice size outfeed table.

Mine is close to two years old. I fixed the wobble with a 1x4 brace spanned across the two rear legs

I got one of these for $50 by combining a coupon with some sail they had going and I got free microfiber towels and a magnetic tray. I have a real workbench I used this to hold a fish tank. But if I ever put it in my shop I will replace the bottom shelf with 1/2” birch plywood and fill the void under the hollow top with MDF because the top is 3/4 finger jointed tiny scraps. It’s totally worth full price though. I used the vice screw to make the wagon vice on my real bench.

I looked at the HF work bench and yes the top is hard wood. But i saw MDF on the draws, the bottom shelf, anf under the top. But back then they were 100.00 Or whem i looked at it. Good luck

I seen it before and was going to get one. I don't have a thousand dollars for the good ones. I guess you can add some 5/4 or 6/4 maple to strengthen it when needed. Might build one or buy this? Just want it to be level. Thanks for the video.

Glue won't add significantly. Add cross bracing to the design to add rigidity.

I have this bench...it's great for 150...first thing you have to do is replace the drawer slides...everything else was great for me...it isn't the greatest vice ever, but it's great for average stuff. It isn't great for planing, or anything that requires pressure across the top...so sanding, etc. But for 150, you can't beat it.

I have this bench. The vise is crap. I screwed a piece of plywood to the back legs to stiffen it up for planing. I also added a hardwood 2x2 screwed to the front apron for clamping. Made a bench bull and Moxon Vise. All my carving wood is stacked on the bottom shelf.

I have the same one and all the issues that have been started already, I have them all. Plus, the face of the bottom shelf is made with finger joints and mine just fell apart. So I supped it up with 2 x 4's. Now you can park a car on it... Lol. Oh yeah, hold fasts don't work in it.

The sides and rear of the drawers and the lower shelf are made of MDF, not plywood. If they were plywood, they would be much stronger. You can screw the table to a wall. That would keep the table from shifting or wobbling. Attach a 1/2"x2" board the length of the table to the wall aligning the top of the table to the top of the 1/2"x2" board. In other words, make them flush at the top. After screwing (or nailing) the 1/2"x2" board to the wall studs, screw the table to this 1/2"x2" board. I would use 1-1/2" to 2" screws at least every foot along the length of the board. Whether you attach to wall or not, I would also run 3-5 stretches under the table from front to rear to add strength to the top. Screw or nail the stretches to the table top. I would also use wood glue. Countersink for the screws or nails. Fill holes with wood putty, sand and spray or paint with lacquer. Make sure the stretchers do not interfere with the operation of the top drawers.

The problem with the bench I saw is that the display (of anything at HF) is not put together well and too many people shaking it and pretty much abusing it on the floor, so by the time I see it on display, it's a piece of .....well.... So seeing your take on it is helping me with my decision, but I would be gluing and clamping it while putting in the screws. Even adding a screw or three here and there along with the copious amounts of glue.

Several items. I have this bench. I have no wobble, I made sure the screws were right. Vice handle, I put a small screw in the end to hold the caps on. I also used micro jig dovetail bit on the front and back to use their clamps. (Remove screws on the end before routing, yes I ruined a bit). My only dislike is the drawer slides don't open far enough.

What is the height of the workbench when assembled ? Saw you measure every other spec. Thanks !

My drawers were very difficult to roll free and the dog holes fill up with saw dust and other things that are on the bench. I plan to move them to the shelf and put a top on them to keep all unwanted stuff out

That is exactly what I plan to do. I will use biscuits or dowels to hold the two benches together. You said bigger drawers, did you mean deeper from top to bottom of the drawer? They're not very deep. Maybe I will leave the top drawers as they are and make deeper drawers on the bottom. I will use plywood on the sides and rear, not MDF.

I was thinking on buying this for a reloading press... any thoughts?

Curious about the upgrades.

If you have issues with drawers, mine came with the metal guides on in reverse. Simply unscrew and and flip.

Not a bad buy for the materials alone.

Is it sturdy enough for a lathe?

I assembled this bench for a friend. All was good except the pilot holes in the long drawer back were drilled in the wrong positions. Turned either way they were a couple inches off. I know I had the bottom correct cause there are recessed pilot holes in the bottom for it to attach to the back board and of course the felt side goes to the inside of drawer. I just predrllled through these holes into the drawer back and screwed it to the board. Not an issue for me but could be a real problem for the novice with no drill or bits! And not predrilling could cause splitting.

Could you mount a vise and bench grinder on it?

I have my Makita sliding miter saw on top of it on vise end. I have small shop so it works pretty good. The rest of it I'm sorry to say is a catch all.

I bought this work bench and use it for different purposes. I have been thinking about putting a 75 gallon fish tank but would need to reinforce it with 2×4s put a 1 inch hardwood top on top. How much if you know would this table hold in lbs before failure? Anyone?

My problem with that bench, which I got almost three years ago is that I could not work on it when I had all the room I wanted. it was entirely too light and flimsy for me to get much use out of.

If you're handy enough to be doing that type of work, you should be able to reinforce it pretty easily.

The board is called Metrie. There's a vid on KZread that explains how they make it. I buy it at Lowes all the time.

I love it. But. The bottom shelf, put 3or 4 support slats on the bottom and screw it for some serious support. Mine buckled.

It's okay. glue and screw some half inch ply to the back and sides to reduce racking. Add heavy stuff to bottom shelf as ballast. Lastly, glue and screw some 2x4s underneath the dog holes and redrill from the top. You will be able to use hold fasts on the back dog holes only - which is good enough. A better bench is Rob Cosman's made from mdf. buy some 1 inch thread rod and build your own vise - or two or three. All can be done for $150 or less. I used 3/4 thread rod to build a face vise on my workbench over 20 years ago. I've used and abused it daily and it's still tight and right. You can build a vise much better than you can buy at any price. My face vise has 1.5 inch hardwood dowel runners. My next bench will have twin screws on each end (1 inch thread rod) and a face vise with 1 inch thread rod with 2 inch hardwood dowel runners. 1 in 8 TPI is all you'll ever need. I've used 3/4 thread rod that's 1 in 16 TPI for 20 plus years. With a speed handle, it takes just a few more seconds than a quick release with none of the quirks.
