Some of the videos of the Icon torque wrench head to head against the Snap On torque wrench really looks good for the icon units. $99 vs $450 for something that actually does a tiny bit better speaks volumes. Just as you said, you can buy multiple Icon items for the same price you might pay for a single Snap-On tool and have the quality be virtually the same.

They do, but I'd say it's that they got away with modeling their jacks after Snap-On and won the lawsuit so... Brand confusion is only a good thing for them. Snap-On has an 88 tooth ratcheting design, these are 90 teeth. I don't really see Snap-On making something for a competitor AND making it "better".

No one made that claim to me at SEMA, I can say that much. I'd think they'd want to tout that a bit if they did. That is a pretty common type of rumor when companies revamp product lines, and it does happen so maybe. That said, looking similar and being similar are two very different things. As I haven't tested and reviewed any of the ICON stuff yet, I cannot say for sure any direction.

I just recently bought a brand new snap on masters series box and got over 4K in discounts when everything was said and done. The only place you are going to be be paying full MSRP for a box is if you buy it off the site. If you step on the truck it's an entirely different story. There's also the financing aspect of it as well which is questionable with a company like HF. HF was started to make cheap affordable tools for entry level and that's the key to their success. If they move away from that model I think it's going to hurt their bottom line as they are competing against companies which have decades upon decades more experience than them at this game AND don't cut corners to bring the price down to make it "affordable."

A Matco 5s triple bank box is $9400. The tool trucks have better quality, USA made toolboxes, AND they have trade in deals. That said, the price are not the same, not at list price anyway.

So if you have a problem and get a dick of a representative you may be out of pocket on repair costs. It's not common but also not unheard of for them to enforce that.
