My retractable extension cable broke, so I designed a part to fix it. The part is made out of 100% ABS plastic, so it is much more durable than a 3D printed part. This video shows the diagnosis, disassembly, fix, and re-assembly of the extension cable.

Electric newby here. Are you able to switch the female end to male and male end to female?

Yes, it is possible to reverse the gender of the plugs. It is kinda rare to have the retractable mechanism on the mobile device, but it has been done before. When you swap the plugs, make sure the wire color matches the specific prong that you are connecting it to. Accidentally swapping neutral and line will be a safety hazard.

@@Byte2Bot Awesome thank you! Do you know if they make something like this that is a manual retractable reels (ex one that you crank manually) or are they all pretty much automatic?

@@Jay91Byrd if you want a manual one, I like the plastic extension cord reels at Lowe's. They have a black plastic handle that slides on the inside of the plastic wheel and it works with any extension cord. It will be a lot cheaper than an automatic retract.
