    Thank you for this video. The included "directions" make no mention of the locking collar and clearly indicate that the larger nut with the "window" doesn't need to be removed. I was ready to throw this thing off of a bridge. Now, if only someone had some specs on the included inserts... I need 5/16 threads in 0.120-wall steel. I'll guess I'll find out in two weeks when my McMaster order shows up. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤞

    Just bought this yesterday. On the box, did not list the sizes. I probably never will use the 3 metric sizes, but am disappointed this did not come with 8-32 nor 6-40 mandrells. So now I have to carry this PLUS the marson kit in my van, plus a box for the stuff that does not fit the plastic box.... this box was likely made for a pop-rivet type tool and rivets.... I hope the mandrells are replaceable, as even MARSON ones can break. I expect the 10-24 one will fail from frequent use.. The tool itself seems fine. Because the box cannot hold all the items that come with it, I likely will keep the accessories and parts in my own drawer with the Marson and Pop Rivet tools, same as with all my cordless tools. These blowmolded boxes would only be decent if they had room for everything inside. For anyone else who works on commercial doors, riv-nuts are a MUST for panic exit hardware, and hydraulic door closers. Self-drilling sheet metal screws will ALL loosen up, and should advise strongly to use them only in wood, and machine screws in metal with Riv-Nuts! Been using these fasteners for about 30 years, discovered them when I as 18, working on the back door at a McDonalds... Picked the tool up at an industrial supply store near me. NEver had a device loosen up since..... But setting the larger steel inserts with the plier type tool is tough... my paws are just not big enough to do it without a lot of stress.

    I have gotten screwed buying rivnuts on Amazon... got a crappy knockoff different than item shown.... I generally buy through Fastenall or a normal Tool supply company. The included Riv-Nut style fasteners look surprisingly NOT crappy. But store did not sell any accessories or fasteners for this. Thanks for the heads up... if you have a link from where you have purchased these mandrels, and they fit the PEarl Harbor Freight tool, please link it.

    If I recall, the term "rivnut" was or is a product of BF Goodrich. There was a competitive product called a "nutsert" from another company I believe called Avdel, not sure of the spelling. All have been around for many years, but I don't recall seeing any of them on the retail market, they were used in manufacturing. I've been using nutserts for years, but it's nice to see a similar product make it to the retail market. Another product I like to use is what's called a Cleco. It's funny, HF sells the tool but not the Clecos themselves. At least, not that I know of. Jim

    They won't sell the rivet nuts separately because there is a hack where you can install these by using a bolt, nut and several washers. Then no one will be buying the tool. I've never tried the hack, but I guess it has a pretty good success rate except for the stainless rivet nuts. I'm just going to get this tool because you can never have enough tools!

  • @degas55
    @degas5525 күн бұрын

    HF could make the kit even better by including the appropriate drill bits, or at least noting the size of drill bit required for each rivnut.

  • @MotorCityMetalArt

    @MotorCityMetalArt

    25 күн бұрын

    They probably didn't do that because different manufacturers make riv nut diameters to different sizes. Harbor freight should however at least sell rivnuts for it that match the ones in the kit to keep everything the same.
